So I was interested in what that really meant and looked it up.

n.
1. A maverick is a castrated steer that exhibits erratic behavior by wandering away from the herd and getting lost. It can be rounded up and branded by anyone who finds it..
2. One that refuses to abide by the dictates of or resists adherence to a group; a dissenter.
I will make no comment on this, in either direction, just interested in your take, one way or another (oh, PLEASE don't attack me, just making conversation), read into that what you will.

How many times did Palin use the term Maverick last night? I find this funny. Perhaps someone should have looked it up in any dictionary before using it as his Catch phrase for the campaign.

I would say that she meant the second exclamation not the first one. So she meant that McCain thinks for himself and does not just follow the crowd. Actually there was no need for you to print the first explanation. It is the way McCain works and thinks is our concern. And he sounds like he does not just take things at face value that he thinks for himself. He will investigate it. Sounds like someone who is intelligent and when Sarah Palin called him that, she was not insulting him as yu assumed, she was giving him a compliment.

Ok, that got me laughing. I agree that McCain is a maverick. Thank you for pointing it out for me. :)

It doesn't seem to me that John McCain meets either definition considering that I'm pretty sure he's not a steer and considering his voting record in the Senate.
It's a funny things about nicknames and tag lines. Years ago I declared myself the Queen of the Universe while joking around with my kids and that has stuck. Every once in awhile one of them will come across a sticker or magnet with that phrase on it and it always makes it's way to me. Doesn't mean I really am the Queen of the Universe...I just said that I was.

LOL I had looked that up to see if his picture was there yet, but, just reading it in your discussion it made me think about something I heard about him not being able to find his way off stage at some rally thing. I'll look and see if I can find it.
