Can you really make a good meal out of SPAM?

Have you ever heard of SPAM? They sell a lot of SPAM in the US. Awhile back, I saw a SPAM cookbook. I think they even had a SPAM meatloaf. Hard to believe that you can actually make real dishes with SPAM. I never really liked the taste. Too spicy. And, kind of slimy. Have you ever made a real recipe using SPAM (not just sandwiches).

I had Spam for the first time in probably 5 years a few weeks ago. It is way too salty. I have seen recipes calling for Spam, but none of them sound all that appealing to me. If you have a GMAIL account got to your Spam folder and there will be a recipe that calls for Spam at the top.

Yeah, that sodium is a killer. Have to steer clear.

You can use spam in place of any meat in casseroles. I have seen it at potluck dinners in pasta salads of various types. It is also baked in with cheese potatoes in a casserole. If it calls for ham, you could use spam. I don't mind it actually. Fried with mustard on a sandwich is pretty good.

Cheese potatoes, really? That's awesome! Never tried that. Wonder if that hides the taste?

My Mom used to cut up little chunkies of spam and add them to hash browned potatoes. Yum! That was really tasty! I remember it added a lot of flavor to those hash browns and it was never too spicy that way. I haven't thought about that in years, you can bet I just put spam on the shopping list lol.

I like spam. I usually slice mine put it in a caserole dish with brown sugar, corn syrup poured on top and bake it. I serve it with rice or noodles. I have also been known to slice it and put it on the foreman grill. Cut it into thin strips and stirfry it with veggies. It makes a cheap and easy meal.

yes it can. i grew up in hawaii where SPAM has been a staple food product since WW2. The most popular thing and easy to make is SPAM Musubi. I even saw a competition on foodnetwork where it was a spam cook off and they had so many different type of dishes. the spam out of the can is slimy, it shouldn't have any spicy taste though, the most it would be is maybe a little salty. there's a major differences from those generic lunch meat brands and the actual SPAM brand. they may have spicy versions but the original isn't that bad. they even now have a low sodium version as well. i normally add spam in noodles, fried rice and i've even ground it up and used it in gyoza. those are just things i do on my own and people use it in different ways. but i think it does have endless possibilities.

I have spam every so often. I like to fry it and put it into sandwiches. I also make spam pizza pockets. I use a can of spam, a small green pepper a small onion, some mushrooms. an egg some parmesan cheese, pizza sauce, and about 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning and 1 loaf frozen bread dough thawed Heat oven to 350°F. In large skillet, sauté SPAM®, bell pepper, onion and mushrooms until lightly browned. Divide bread dough into 6 equal parts. Roll into 6-inch circles. Brush circles with egg and sprinkle with cheese. Divide SPAM™ mixture among bread circles. Top with 2 tablespoons pizza sauce. Sprinkle with Italian seasoning. Fold circles in half. Pinch edges this is very good.

The only thing we ever use spam for in my house is sandwiches. We toast the bread and put some mayo on it. Then we cook the spam and add toppings to the bread like tomatoes, cheese, onions and what not and put the spam on and eat it that way. We've never gotten too creative with spam.

My kids loved spam and I always had a can on hand in case of emergency when I was running late or just tired. I would take it and cut it in pieces, like diced, put some butter in the skillet and fry it till it brown, make a dish of mac and cheese, then add the spam to it and my kids loved it. It was cheap and easy for a quick fix when needed. Spam has been around a long time and I have seen many other items that try to copy it but just not as good.

You can use SPAM in a variety of dishes. It is a meat product, so it fits in many of the dishes that you would use meat in. Personally, I don't eat the stuff, but I know people who do.

I think you can use spam in about any kind of casserole. I don't like it but the rest of my family does. Add some noodles, cheese and a few veggies and you have a spam casserole. Wow I think I just invented something!
