How to make new friends?

I am lacking friends. I find it hard to click with people around me. My colleagues around me are so childish type and we hardly can share the same topics. All my childhood friends,classmates and schoolmates are all far apart from me. I am staying and working outside from my hometown,I hardly have a chance to meet them up. I only go back to my hometown twice a year. Thus,everyday I live in my own world except my boyfriend as my companion,but sometimes I feel that I should have more friends in my life. But how? I just don't know how to get more friends into my life. Any tips? Please share your opinions with me,thanks.
