Do you Save Pennies?

I know there are a lot of people out there that save change, I am one of them. I do not spend my change, instead I bring it home and place it into a container. When the container is Full I cash it in and put the money into savings or spend it when times get real tough. I also have a seperate penny jar. When I am out and about I look down so I can find change that someone dropped, even if it is a penny I will pick it up. TO me every penny counts. I have one full jar of pennies so far and another started. I once saved 40.00 worth of pennies, so it really does add up. Do you save pennies or do you think it is a waste of time??

yep! I save them. Every penny does count, but I have a "game plan"
for mine. I had the wonderful privilege of being a bartender and
the bar itself had a penny counter top. It has pennies on top of plywood
and a think layer of polyurethane on top of it. Since I do a bit of carpenter
work, myself... I am planning on making something with pennies and I will
take a picture of it and show you, later!
No, it isn't a bar top!

wow that is an awesome Idea. My mom wanted to make those kinds of tables out of sea shells though. And yes every penny does count, whether it is to spend the pennies or make something unique out of them. I would love to see a picture of what you make when you are done. Thank you very much for responding and good luck with your project!

I don't think saving any amount of money is a waste of time.
I rarely use cash, but I tend to keep one or two of each denomination of coins in my wallet and put the rest in a large bottle. I had quite a bit saved up until last year when I had to use the laundromat a few times and that ate up all my quarters.
I takes me forever to accumulate anything because I use cash so little, but it does add up eventually.

we do not have a working washer and dryer right now so I know how laundromat can hurt you. it cost us 1.50 per load x 6 loads, and .25 cents for 6 minutes of drying. it is rediculous. It is impossible to live anymore! thank you for responding.

Yeah, sometimes but not all the time. I usually use pennies for transpo fare and simply for expenses. I prefer saving cash notes than coins. I find pennies heavy on weight particularly if their too many already.

That is a good way to use your change. For me it is very easy to spend a dollar bill rather than 4 quarters, I would rather go in a store and pay with cash than with coins so it makes it easier for me to save the coins, cash just blows a hole in my pocket..lol. Thank you so much for responding.

I save pennies and other change every chance I get. I got one of those money counters and put my change in it. I so far have twenty dollars counted up. I got a fortune cookie tin that has a bunch of pennies in it that I need to count up. I don't think it is a waste of time to save up change because like you said, you never know when you need it.
Happy mylotting!

Exactly! Yes we use a electronic money jar as well because it is fun to see a little bit of change adds up to that much money. And you do never know when you are gonna need it especially if you have kids! Thank you so much for responding.

yes, but I'm a careless person, so sometimes i loss the money and I always forgot where i put the money. But its a good habit. Once I had to many penny and it's troublesome to me to go to bank, so I used all the penny and people start to look weirdly at me. sometime it embarrassing, but at time it so funny.

I have a habit of sticking change in a glass and then forgetting about it and a month later I will find the glass and be all excited, lol. I am trying to get past that habit. I really don't like to pay with pennies at stores cause it can be embarrassing but I have paid for milk with Rolled pennies before, if the bank was closed. Hey it's money it spends.. Thank you for responding.

I always save my change. I too am a firm believer in "every cent counts." I don't seperate my pennies from the rest of my change, but I do pick up pennies when I find them. Whenever I cash in my change it's always a decent amount, like upwards of $200. I usually put it towards whatever project we are working on at the time. Now, I am trying to get a nice queen sized bed frame.

That is awesome to know you can save that much money, that is what people do not understand, that by saving your coins, pennies and all you will end up with "dollars" which can be put to good use, like in your case with a project. Excellent work and thank you for responding.

I do save pennies and every other bit of change. I also put aside the money I save with coupons, if I use a 40 cent coupon that money goes in the change jar. It's come in handy sometimes but I usually roll it and deposit it in my savings account. It's always wise to save for a rainy day!

I used to work as a teacher. Eating at the school canteen was cheap. I would save the pennies I get and bring it to work. I use the pennies to buy food at the canteen. The canteen vendors also appreciate me giving coins since they really need a lot of them on a daily basis. But now I don't save the pennies anymore, I spend it on small items. I bring them to nearby shops and spend it on newspapers or sweets. I guess it is my way to beat the inflation. When I bring coins, I feel poor and will not spend too much. If I bring notes to the shop, I tend to buy things I don't really need. I have saved some coins and recently I saw that they have installed an automated machine outside the bank for people to deposit their coins. Before this, we have to queue up at the banks to have our coins deposited. There is also a small fee for that. So I don't deposit them at the banks.

Yes it is true that little food shops at work and schools are thankful for coins, since they will go through a lot in a day. But I have noticed that a lot of places now a days get annoyed (at least where I live) when you pay in pennies. The way I see it is they spend the same way, so why are people so darn picky. We have coinstar machines in some of our grocery stores which count the coins, and they charge to count them, as long as we roll coins we can cash them in for free at banks and they appreciate it. Thank you so much for responding.

Hi,
I do save on the coins that come with Indian currency - called as Paisas . These do help ;even though sometimes; they just keep lying for days altogether .

Yes, I save pennies and every other kind of coin. I think it's exciting to take it to the bank and exchange it for cash. It's like winning a small lottery. I usually just add the money to my monthly budget for extra spending money. I agree, it really does add up, so it's definitely worth it!

Yes, i do save some penny, when i got a change from shopping i put them on my shoe money box and my baby money box. My husband separated 1 cents to 50 cents or 20 cents. Then when it's ready for depositing in the bank we put them on our savings account. Every penny is important and it's not waste of time. We need every penny and we don't waste it. Without a penny there's no millions. Happy posting.

Yes we have an old Kool Aide plastic container sitting near our door, so as soon as we get home we empty our pockets into it. When the jar gets full, I take and separate the pennies from the silver coins and the pennies go into a different kool aide jar and the silver coins go into an electronic piggy bank. We do not cash in until the containers are full or if we have no choice and need bread. Thank you very much for responding

Well it never really shows at first, it does take longer for the pennies to amount to anything but to me since I live paycheck to paycheck every penny counts and I don't like to waste money, so if someone doesn't want that penny and throws it on the ground then they are helping to feed my family. Don't give up keep saving they will eventually add up... Thanks you for responding.

The photo added here is a 7 lb container from dog food. My wife is a waitress and gets tons of change monthly as tips. We save pennies and nickles. Pennies due to the amount of them she gets as change for tips. And the nickles due to their weight in our pockets and her purse. Right now in this pail there is roughly $20 I'd say. We save them till almost full then cash them in for slot machine money when we visit a local casino. When full this container contains roughly $90 in pennies. Lot's of fun on the 1 and 2 cent slot machines saved in this container.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I do save our pennies and any change we get our hands on. It goes into the kids piggy bank. It also goes to teaching my kids how much one coin is worth over another ect. I keep hoping they'll add up and buy us a mansion one day! *LMAO* But IRL when I go to the bank I take all the change in as it doesn't do anyone any good sitting in the house out of circulation (ie keeping them out of circulation causes them to loose value, as they'll mint more to keep circulation up to meed demands) and not earning interest.

I also save my change. I put it in a jar-don't separate it much except for the quarters which I use for laundry. I also feel the same way, every penny counts and I always pick up change from parking lots, sidewalks, etc. After all, like Ben Franklin quoted:"A penny saved is a penny earned." Have a great day!

I save my pennies. I save all my change. I never spend change. I just drop em in the bottom of my bag. When i clean out my bag i save the change in a cash box. Once i get enough saved up i take them to the bank and deposit them in my saving account.

Hi Lindsay,Yes, I save pennies and other change.I keep the pennies separate too.A lot of people throw pennies away.I have found several in the same place.I always pick them up when I see them. They do amount up.I once gave my Dad two big coffee cans full.Sometimes I will leave them in a store for when someone might need one. I certainly don't think it is a waste of time to save pennies.Keep on saving and have a good day.

Hi lindsaykaye82
I do save pennies, and two pences and five pences as well, in my little money box. When it gets full I go through it all and fill up those plastic money bags you get from the bank and put it into my account.
It used to fill up fairly often, but to be honest I don't use cash as much these days, I tend to either shop online or use my debit/credit cards, so I don't have as much change rattling around in my purse to get rid of. It's been a while now since I last had to empty the money box! :o(
Best wishes,
T :o)
