My aunt, 32 years now, have a decent job.Yet, she never dropped her original dream-going on her study in PHD. Several years ago, she thought less of this dream just because her son was so little .Now,my nephew has grown up and goes to school everyday. And finally she can feel free to quit the job and go back to school .But this decision arises strong disagreement of my mother and her women friends and coleagues. The reason they gave was that my aunt have so happy a life, yet she doesn't want to cherish it and plus, they discourage my aunt's ambition by saying that knowledge can be pursued in daily life. But, to tell the truth, it's really hard for a woman to set out some private time if she both works and takes care of a whole family.
Have you had the experience of other woman's discouragement?

Yes I have on occasion. See, we are familiar creatures of habit, and it takes a lot to move to a whole new place, to change your sails like your aunt is doing, something in that line, but I feel if that is what she wants, GO FOR IT!!! perhaps she can work and pursue the Ph.D. at night and on weekends because after all, that takes time and effort and financing. I wish her well and keep on stepping in spite of opposition. Sometimes, it is best not to say anything at all.
