There have been a few Tony Sightings. We have been trying to get our cat back into our home. We have searched high and low.
Well a neighbor kid Knocked on the door yesterday afternoon saying that he saw my cat early in the morning. I said " Oh, I wished you would have told me right away" he said that he did not know where I lived!
Then Carl was sitting outside with a dish of canned cat food around 7:30-8:00 last night. And he spotted Tony Coming out form under our van and running under the mobile home we live in....
He would not come to Carl,, Anyone have any ideas why he will not let us catch him?

Don't have a clue why the cat will not let you catch him. Try putting fish in the cat's bowl outside and see if he will come around. They have a great nose for fish and are tempted. Maybe he is enjoying the freedom of the outdoors.
I have the opposite problem with our cat. She's never been outside except to see the vet and I take her in a cage. She won't leave my side. No matter where I am, she's not far behind.

I'm so glad thatTony is, at least, staying in the area. Cats, by nature are solitary and hunters. He's probably just enjoying himself, while at the same time knowing you are near if he needs you. If he's staying under your house, he's not getting to cold. Who is he most attached to? You? If it is you, have you sat outside with the food (whatever Tony's favorite is)? Have you thought about a trap? He'd be pretty mad, but you'd have him in the house again.
Keep us posted, ok?

I'm so happy to hear that you've seen him and he is OK! I didn't respond (in a hurry) to your other post, but I read it.
I think he is just scared and maybe confused. My cats all come when I call and love to be picked up, but if they get outside, and I go to get them, they will duck and run if they hear any slight noise or see anything strange (to them). Tony, being very old, might also not be hearing/seeing as well as when he was younger, so he might have not been sure who it was sitting outside. Try putting the canned cat food right up near your door, and then try opening the door to see if he will come on in on his own. Or slowly go up closer and closer while he is eating and then try to catch him.
I pray you will have him in your arms again soon.

Congrats on getting your cat back.A friend of mine lost a cat and he said that the cat really didn't like him. He put up posters every where and there would be rewards for finding but, he never got his cat back. So maybe your cat needed a break and explore the outside world?

Seems Tony wants to be anm outdoor cat now to me.
I think leaving a dish with food at a set time each night etc will help.
Tony will get used to it being there at the same time.
Then start sitting out with the dish as well.
Maybe then he will come to you again.
Just my thoughts.
Good luck as well. Poor Tony.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Oh, that is a good sign, he is still alive..As for why he won't come to you, he might be very frightened since he has never been outside before and at his age, who knows how he is handling this..Is he eating the cat food left out? If so can you get a hold of one of those, (brain freeze can't remember what it is called), but it is a trap, but a friendly trap, doesn't hurt the animal..I am sure someone here knows what I am talking about..But if you do catch him, take him to the vet right away, without taking him out of the cage..Not knowing what he had gotten into, he could be either a carrier of a disease or so frightened, that he may attack you..

Has he been fixed? (Not that he was broken before)
Even if he has been there could be some female cats in heat that is distracting him. If that is the case would you change his name to Catsenova. LOL
Sorry, just trying to make you smile. At least you know he is ok. That is a plus.

I bet since you said it is getting cold outside he will come home looking for warmth. I hope you or your neighborhood kid could catch him. You said your husband tried a can of cat food maybe try tuna as cats love the smell of tuna. My kitty keeps trying to get outside too she is fixed but only 9 months old so I don't want her out there. I hope your kitty comes home I am sure you miss him.

See if you can borrow a have-a-heart trap from a shelter or from the humane society. Put in stinky cat food, sardines or KFC (I've heard cats love KFC). Put out a t-shirt that you have worn so that it has your scent on it. Loads of luck. It's really good that you have seen him. Sending go home vibes to Tony.

Well it is good that you know he's still okay. That alone should be so relieving considering how long he's been out.
He won't come to you because he's terrified. Remember the story I told you of my cat?
I hope you get some good ideas because I can't really think of any. Only thing I can think of is putting a food dish on your porch or front step and maybe leaving your door open, while you and hubby stay away. If he comes to the food and smells the house he may come in on his own. But if you or hubby are nearby you may scare him back into hiding.

hello louise
awww, i hope by now that your-all's cat, Tony has came back. lol have you been able to get him back inside? do you mostly keep tony inside?, or does he usually go outside also? i couldn't tell you how to deal with getting him back inside, i go through that as well with my dog Doughnut. lol she'll go running down the back stairs as fast as she can and then ignores me. lol makes me so mad when she does that. and i guess that when tony gets hungry enough, he'll be back around wanting back inside. lol
have a beautiful evening.
