Do you ever push through the pain and keep working?

Right now, my hands are tingling
a little bit from typing too much.
But, I'm pushing through the pain and
ignoring it.
I shouldn't. Last time, I pushed through
the pain, when my hands were hurting,
I had to stop typing for almost a
month.
Maybe this is just nature's way of telling
me to go fix dinner.
Do you ever push through the pain and keep
working anyway?
Do you ever continue working even
though you are in pain?

What choice do I have? The past 2 days I've been in extreme pain because of my back. I still don't know what I did to it, but it's killing me and half the time I feel like I can't move. I had to take a bunch of pills just to be able to sleep last night, and I woke up this morning feeling even worse. But I still have the kids to take care of and the chores to do and dinner to make. In about an hour I'll have to take the kids to soccer practice even though getting in and out of the car is torture. Luckily hubby has tomorrow off so I can rest and not do any lifting or bending. Hopefully that will help.

I woke up feeling the same way the other day. I could barely move. I don't now what I did. I had my son put this one arthritis cream on my back and it really helped. It heats up when you move around. It did not help at all until I started moving around more. I hope your back starts feeling better soon.

I've tried that stuff, like Icy Hot, not recently but in the past. For me it gets a little too hot and I have to take it off because it feels like it's burning. I used a heating pad last night and that didn't even help.

With a 6 year old son it's hard to stop doing anything even if I'm in pain. I had a herniated disc last year and still had to take care of my son. It was a very painful experience. I now take time out when I start feeling the aches and pains and even ask my hubby for more help when I need it.

I sit in my hospital bed in pain everyday and type on this computer because I have nothing else to do. I would go crazy if I didn't have this to do. I type until the pain gets so bad that I cant sit up any longer and I have to take more medication and lay down. Which is far from now.
I do dishes with a brace on and that make it hurt bad enough then I come back to bed. I am not suppose to do anything but my mother won't do the dishes or shampoo the carpet because I have to many cats and it needs to be cleaned. So I have to do it. Then go to the Doctor and get Pain Shots to help deal with the pain. So Yes I push through the pain.

I get a headache when it's time to stop. Sometimes I keep typing despite the ache, but I've discovered that after about ten minutes I have nothing to say, I'm too busy flinching every time I blink.
The last time I typed until I tingled was when I was participating in NaNoWriMo, I typed 30,000 words in one day. My wrists swelled up so badly that I couldn't bend them for days.
I'd stop, if you're tingling. Might be a good time to go take a hot bath.

Yes, in fact, I'm doing that today a little bit. Nothing is seriously wrong with me. I just have a cold but it doesn't make sense to me to sit around staring at the T.V. aimlessly for hours. Of course, I won't do anything too taxing and I plan to stay in the house until tomorrow evening when hopefully I'll be up enough to go to a meeting for the Florence Poet's Society. I feel like putting up with the plan to earn a little money here is not so bad for my character. My grandmother always used to say and still does, "If you're sick, get up and do something however minor. Then sick will find someone else to bother." Overall, this has worked for me as a life strategy. I feel worse lying in bed for hours than I do being productive.

I push through pain because there is no other choice. I've been dealing with chronic pain most of my life. It started when I was eight years old and in second grade. There are some days that the pain is minimal, and I barely even notice it. Other days it's all I can do to get out of bed and take care of my child. I've discovered that I can still do most things that need to be done, even when I'm in terrible pain. There are days that make being in labor seem like a picnic. I still have to take care of Elliott, though I will admit that on those days I'm more likely to give him a lunchable, or peanut butter sandwich, instead of actually cooking a real meal.

Yes I work through the pain all the time. I had such bad back pain yesterday but I canned 20 quarts of spaghetti sauce to for my friends yesterday. I did have help but I did what I could and worked through the pain. I am sore today.

I used to be really bad about that, just ignore it and go on with whatever I was doing. I hurt my knee while I was working on a wildland fire, was with volunteer fire dept, came off the back of a brush truck and landed wrong. I didn't say anything to anyone at the time, we were short-handed as it was. And my knee hurt for a few days, but I just went right on trying to ignore it. That happened 8 years ago, and even now that knee goes out from time to time, and I probably should have had it checked then, but didn't. I had no choice this year, I injured my wrist (yep, on a wildland fire lol) and I did have it checked and they splinted it, and I was going to go right on working, but my chief put me on medical leave a week after it happened. Kinda hard to do my job one handed lol.

Only all of the time. I had a terrible back ache the other day. I must have slept funny. The longer I was awake the worse I felt. I could not bend over and even going to the bathroom hurt. (The bending down to drop my pants part.) I had my son put some cream on my back and it helped a little. I felt much better when I woke up the next day.

I've never pushed through pain like that but I've pushed through fatigue, hunger, thirst, exhaustion, frustration, boredom, anger, and there must be some others - I just don't remember them now.
Yes, I've pushed, many times, and I know how it feels.

I don't let pain get in the way. Last year I built a wall with 87 lbs blocks. After 2 days I woke up and it felt like my hands were in a fire. 3 or 4 days later my hands didn't feel like they were on fire but were really tense. I wore all kinds of wrist and elbow protection to try to get through the day. Some were worse than others. But I am still alive.
The pain has gone away but opened my eyes.

Don't over do it, beautyqueen26, I missed you when you had to be away for a while.
Yes I do push through the pain and keep working. No pain no gain, right?

Pain is with me pretty much all the time, so its not something I can wait for it to end and get on with life. With spinal bone spurs, carpal tunnel, ruptured discs, fibromyalgia and other issues as well, I live with it. For me its whether or not the pain is severe enough to keep me from doing what I want to do. Unfortunately some days the pain wins - even WITH pain meds. But there are days, like today, when I say to hell with it and keep going. I mean I'm going to hurt anyway right?
The one thing I can tell you with the hands tingling though is you should rest it if it gets that bad. Continuing to ignore it without treating it will only make it worse. Eventually the nerve damage will be bad enough it can't be fixed. I know this because I have carpal tunnel as well. Doc's have told me when the fingers get to tingling I should apply ice packs to decrease swelling and inflamation and to rest my hands.

yes, I would still push through even if I feel pain. You see, If I don't work the things I have to do would pile up and thinking about gives me more pain. I often get headache well, because I'm always in front of the computer so amybe I got used to it. Then if I have time, let's say I don't have a lot of things to do, I would take a rest and try to take some medicine. But if I have a toothache? No way, it's impossible for me to move. I would justlie down all day and wish for the pain to go.happy mylotting!

hi beautyqueen,
I thought you should have a rest when you feel pain, cause health is really more important than work. Maybe it only was a little uncomfortble, but maybe it was a cue for hurting, as you said that you stopped for a months. So just be careful and have a rest. Best wishes, my friend.
