To answer or not to answer...

Do you: Answer the door to a stranger? Someone just knocked on my door; I looked through the peephole and did not know the person and was not expecting anyone. I ignored them. I have windows open and kids making enough noise that the person certainly knew someone was home but I am not about to open the door to anyone I don't know when it's just me and the kids home alone. If my husband wants to when he here, fine. But not me.

Sometimes I answer and other times I don't. Years ago I answered the door no matter what...the phone too. But one day I realized that I don't have to answer the door and I don't have to answer the phone. It also depends on what time of day (or night) that this stranger knocks on the door. I am more likely to answer during the light of day than at night.

Isn't it funny that you had to "realize" that you don't have to do those things! I used to answer both as well, when I very first stopped working. Then the lightbulb went off and I had the same realization. Is it manners that makes us think we have to?

I think there are a lot of things that "control" our actions. What I think about with answering the door and telephone is that in earlier times it wasn't as dangerous to answer the door. People didn't even lock their doors. I know some who still don't. We didn't have telemarketers calling us all the time. We didn't have the reasons not to answer doors or phones like we do now. And we didn't have the stressors in our lives either.

I would not answer. I feel guilty sometimes but I have to protect my children. I error on the side of caution since having my first baby and then the second. You can never be to careful when they are around...

Well, I think curiosity would get the better of me. It depends on the person, too, if it looks like someone who is likely to attack me, I would definately not answer it whether they knew I was home or not!
