First of all, this is a great discussion! It actually has feeling and potential! It's the kind of discussion that I don't run into often. So great job!
Anyway, well--I would either bust into tears, give them a dirty look and walk away or if I was in a brave mood I would be like "tell me something I don't know" or... I'd be like.. "cool, so we do have something in common!"
So, those are speculations of what I might do, but reality and my past points more to either crying or giving them a dirty look and walking away, only to let it eat away at me from the inside.
In 6th or 7th grade this boy in my class was like "your so ugly you'll never have a boyfriend". Well, I can't remember how I reacted, but I can remember telling people about that through the years, and saying how hideous that guy was. And I'm talking very ugly. I am not one to be mean, but he really had no room to talk about someone being ugly! That face could be a halloween mask.. And of course I'm being more harsh because he was a creep. When I think back to that, I wish I would have made a smart comment back, but truth be told, I could probably be back there now and not say anything. Oh yea, I have no idea what the situation was, but I am thinking he just randomly came up to me and said that!
On a related, though side note--I already had like 0 self-esteem, so that certainly didn't help, and maybe it sounds dumb--but I do believe that pretty much pushed me over the edge even more, because I already thought I wasn't good enough, and here I am, 25--and I've never had a boyfriend. I gotta think it's like a self-fulfilled prophecy or something. Although, I've never been boy crazy, so that's part of it as well. Anyway, just thought that little story was a good one for this discussion, since it does relate to this situation, and sheds light on an affect of this kind of cruelty. By the way, this is just one situation, I did deal with a lot more, but this was one of the most blunt, straight out stories that stick out in my mind.

Thank you for sharing your story here and also for the comment about this being a great discussion, and yea, that guy does sound like a creep, people shouldn't get their rocks off by putting other people down, I guess they do that to make themselves feel like the king, but then again they are the king, "KING of the Jungle"

I do believe I'd say....
THANK YOU...after looking at your face, you're an expert on ugly. Neither of us can help the face we were given. I'm just thankful I don't have your heart!!!

I would be lost if I had a heart like that, and I would hate to be an expert on ugly.
Thanks for the GIG!

I would say and look whose talking. Have you looked into the mirror lately. I have worked with people who were insulting but never had a total stranger insult me. I had a workmate who told me I smelled once. I didn't she was just being nasty but she said it in front of customers we were serving at the counter.
She is the only person I know who has ever insulted me like that. I wanted to strangle her, not for her comment but for her attitude. She was a friend of a co worker and so up herself. She enrolled to do a master's course at uni and could not stop telling the world she was doing it. We were working in a tafe college which is a tertiary technical school and teaches diploma courses that are belong Uni level although it now also teaches vocational degrees. Well every time someone would come to the counter to collect their diploma or certificate, instead of congratulating them as she was supposed to she would tell them how she was studying a master's degree and I would watch their faces fall as they left with their certificate.
I hated her for destroying their pride in their achievement. I tried to have words with her. Not only that she was supposed to be my assistant working on a register taking money and she could not add up. She was always in trouble and I was always having to point out her errors which is why she did not like me. In the end I had words with the boss over her and she left in a huff.

She's a very rude person. I hate being around people like that, they always try to suck the breath out of life, but they don't always win.

First of all, knowing that I'm not, I might just turn and walk the other way. Of course the look on my face would say a lot!! I have no interest in engaging in a confrontation with a lunatic. My time and energy is worth far more than that.leenie

I would walk away. As I'm to old to say and do what I would of done in my late teen's or 20's. And I can't say it on here as well. So I would jsut have to walk away. Takes a bigger person to walk away and say nothing then to say and do things you shouldn't. Good thing I'm big anyway. lol Your friend onlydia

Hmm! That will be pretty interesting if this happens. I think as per my nature I may not harm him on saying this. I may smile at him and ask him why does he thinks so. Is thee anything that I can improve on. Then I will thank him for his honest opinion and then will appreciate his looks. Wish him good bye and in my heart will pray that we never cross our roads again. What would you do?

I would say thank you. And get back to my work. I have realized that in this world the freedom to expression is a fundamental right, one cannot take the opinions of other people very seriously. The only person who has got the right to say that you are bad is you, and your boss maybe. I wouldn't take such comments to heart. But if the person takes my silence as my weakness and keeps coming back, he would surely end up with a broken nose or a disfigured face..

You're right, if you know what you are or who you are, you shouldn't let someone else break you.

If someone says something like that i might punch his/her face lol. I wouldnt care if he/she happens to know me or not. She has no right to say such negative comment about me. If a person has a problem with the way i look he/she should check if they got what it takes to says such harsh words towards other people.

I'll be very very shocked since I don't know the person. I don't think I will be able to say or do anything at all until the person leaves because I will be processing his/her words in my mind. Well, I'm sure I'm not ugly, my Mom, my Dad and my friends tell me so, hahaha! So I'll just let it go, the stranger is probably blind LOL!

There would probably have been a time when I would have burst into tears but I think Id just be in shock (I mean who on earth could say that to someone as gorgeous as me? lol). I would probbaly just walk away and hope the loser gets caught soon and taken back to where he escaped from asap.

Honestly I don't know. I think i'd be in a state of shock that someone who is a complete stranger has the nerve to walk up to someone and say that!! Then after recovering from the shock I may jus say "Oh well thanks for having such an intrest in me that you took time out of your day to let me know how you feel" something sarcastic and then walk away. People like that just aren't worth the time of day. Obviously they would have certain issues with themselves so I honestly wouldn't even take it too personal.

Great response! He's NOT worth the breath of air and the risk of running up your blood pressure. Yes he would definitely have some loose screws somewhere. Thanks for the GIG!
