If I cannot discern the meaning of the word by reading it in context, then, yes, I will go and look it up in the dictionary.

yes..i'n my profession, the dictionary is my bestfriend. specifically medical dictionary.
there's no room for grammatical error as a medical transcriptionist,...and no room for a wild guess for the proper word. accuracy is a must!
college students nowadays don't pay a lot of attention to even look for the dictionary for words that they are not familiar with.
chEErs!

At first, i will guess the meaning by context, but if i can't catch on it right away, I will use dictionary to look for.

I love using both the dictionary and the thesaurus. As a writer, they're big tools for honing my craft, as much as ink and paper are. I turn to the dictionary at least once a day if not more for syllable count or definitions.

As for me,I will look for dictionary if I have some words I do not know. I'll find the exact meaning and never guessed the words myself. I think that is the best way to do.

Of course, I will seek the aid of the dictionary in the process. It will nourish my vocabulary. :)
