Diapers - Cloth or Disposable?

For my first two children I used both cloth and disposable, but used disposable the most. When I delivered my twins, I used disposable for a short time until I almost went broke buying them. Cloth diapers are wonderul. The grossest thing is rinsing the poo off them. I had 4 clothes lines and they were filled everyday with diapers. I would toss them in the dryer to soften them up, fold them and they were ready for another wear. The initial purchase can be costly, but in the long run it saves a lot of money.

With my first 3 children I used cloth diapers, they did not have disposable ones. But with my 4th child I used disposable diapers and really liked them . Yes they did cost a lot. I was glad when she got potty trained

I loved disposable for the convenience. But, for the savings, I used cloth.

When my children were the age of needing nappies I used cloth ones 99% of the time and on the very odd occasion used a disposable one. Nothing nicer than them hanging on the clothes line in the sunshine or in Winter out of the dryer. I am all for cloth nappies and would do the same today!

You can use gloves to hold on to the diaper while swishing. Our grandparents survived the cloth diaper era. That was the least of their worries.

Come on now, really, what reason is there to be afraid to handle your infants bm? Like you don't "handle" your infant's bm when they're in disposables either? And what would you do, throw away their clothes if bm got on them?

Safety? You know that you arn't supposed to throw away human waste? Even with disposables you are supposed to dump the bm in the toilet? It is actually illegal to throw away human waste. However I don't think anything will ever be done about it.

Heey :) I do not have children yet but I think would prefer to use disposable. I think thats easier to use... but also more expensive like you say. I think I would find is too grose to rinse the Cloth diapers... so I would choose to spend more money on diapers :)

My daughter wanted to use cloth diapers, but her husband did not want to, and they live in an apartment, and do not have their own washer and dryer. Son in law did not want to commit to it, and since he was going to do his share of changing diapers, he won out. He did keep up his part of the deal. Grandpa, also known as my hubby sided with him, saying it was unsanitary to use cloth diapers. ( He never had a baby!). For my daughter, for her first, givent the circumstances, the cloth ones may not have been the most economical, but I wish she had had the option.

What did Grandpa's mom and dad do for diapers? In your daughte's shoes I would have opted for the disposable ones too although I did do my share at the laundry matt.

I always use disposable. If I use cloth, other things will get wet when my baby pees or poops... Disposables are so cheap now, I think if you calculate the costs of those cloth diapers, laundry soap, water, time spent washing and electricity, it will just end up the same.

I used cloth until my girls developed rashes. They had sensitive skin due to inheriting some allergy conditions from their father. So I had to switch to disposables.

I used both for all 3 of mine. I prefer the feel of the cloth for their little tender bottoms. As they got older and things got much more messier we went to just disposables. When they were younger, disposables were for going out or if we had a sitter.

My mom used disposable diapers. I have heard they have come a long way since she used them (20 years ago). I personally use disposable. This will probably be our last baby so I think it is a little late in the game to buy cloth for us. My mother-in-law bought us like 15 bags of diapers in different sizes for Christmas so that really helps. At almost 4 weeks old she still goes threw diapers like you would not believe though ;)

I used disposable for my children, but if I ever had another one I'd use cloth. They're friendlier to the environment. By the way, do you not use inserts? There's very little er.....rinsing of......no.2 if you use the inserts. :)

You know I never got the hang of the cloth diapers. I never bought them cause I was afraid I would poke my baby. I know now that they have the velcrow closures but to be honest I prefer the disposables because I dont have to worry about flushing the poop and then washing them. I am really bad at keeping up with the laundry.

i think cloth is better. it can give fresh feeling to the baby and will not promote skin problems if left a little too long.

I always used disposable diapers with my three children. I realize the cloth ones can definitely save some money in the long run, but I just don't have the stomach for it, and basically I think I'm a little too lazy for all the extra work you have to do with them, lol. I much preferred being able to take the dirty diaper off and just throw it away...then start all over again, lol

With my first daughter we decided to go with cloth diapers but only used them once in awhile as I noticed that our daughter kept breaking out and then we found out it was possible to be allergic even to the cloth one's . when my son was born we kept them for emergency situations but with the rest of my children we have used just the disposable one's as they are just so much easier .

I am using both for my baby and both has its disadvantage as well as advantages. When we would go into malls and shopping naturally I would prefer disposable, but if it is just in the house, then cloth diapers is quite much preferrable.

I use disposable diapers. It just grosses me out way too much to use the cloth ones. I just take them off and velcro it up and done.
