Wow that is far too many formats you do in your laptop I guess. I do not have a laptop but desktop. And I think formatting should be the last resort you should do with your PC. If it is getting slow I guess you can defrag it or maybe you could uninstall some softwares you have installed. Formatting for me would mean that my OS really crashed and it is unbootable anymore. Sometimes I do not even format but just install a fresh copy of the OS. Formatting can also create problem if done as often as you do since its physically demanding on your hard drives too. HD formattin may clear some viruses in your PC but is hard on the cylinders of your HD in the long run.

I assume by formatting you mean to literally redo the hard drive. Even back when I used windows I didn't format that much, in fact, I really didn't reformat at all. I would just reload windows about once a year.
Now I reload the operating system once every six months, because a new on comes out every six months.... I never reformat though.

Ok, that last line is not completely true. When installing the operating system (I tend to do complete installs rather than upgrades) it does a format, but only of the partition with the operating system on it (a little 5 gig partition). So, I guess technically you could say once every 6 months.

Formatting computer and laptop is a common thing that i do regularly atleast once a month.I get some unknown trojans which cause danger to my OS.Still i believe that rash usage causes virus and makes you format computer or laptops.

i format my pc twice per year depending on pc state. Well, you could always try to maintain your pc, like updating softwares and drivers, cleaning junk files, cleaning unwanted registries, virus and spyware scans, defragmenting hard disk and organizing folders in the hard drive. Then, clean the pc's casing, wipe the monitor, spray disinfectant on peripherals and so on. voila! its still the same pc as before, only at a finer state. Its more than just formatting, if you want your pc running normal.

I don't think formatting the computer so often only when it's get caught with some virus from hell that many anti-virus couldn't remove. But I do defrag the pc at least once in every 3 day.

Wow! You format a lot ! Me as much as possible I don't want my PC to be formatted. It makes my PC slower. I think your hard disk is very thin now. I have already formatted my PC 3 times and it makes my PC slower than before. I recommend you not to format your computer that much! I delete old files, pictures and song to my computer and defrag (Disk Defragmentation) my computer once a month.

yeah me too every 4 or 5 months also if i have ccleaner, avg 8.0 and stuff like that i've always the computer full of trash of various genre...you can't see the big slow down of all your system because day after day it go a bit slow everytime you startup...i think it's enough...i can't spend hours every 2 months for a deep format :D

well i generally don't follow any time to format my laptop because we could take medicine only if we got any trouble but not just its time to take medicine
in the same way if any trouble come to my laptop then only i will format my laptop
generally it will get trouble for about every 6 months or 8 months that too because my hard disk will become full then i use to empty that to some other storage and then format the system

I usually format it about once every 6 months but only in case it doesnt work. I still use windows xp but i`m kidna used to fixing errors on it so they don`t give me such a hard time but formatting once in a while is really necesary.

I used to format desktop regularly when i was in hostel because it used to catch some virus or other n i need to format it. I do still remember when i got my laptop i formatted it many times in an attempt to have simultaneous Linux, solaris and windows. But once i decided on which OS i want, i didnt format it after that. I always have a fear that too many formats may create bad sectors on boot sectors.

I format my harddrive and install a new copy of OS every three month. NO matter how many antivirus and anti spyware I use, my system gets affected and start to get slower, if not slowed down by the anti virus already. So I have scraped all Anti spyware software and reinstall OS on the hard drive every three months or so. Removes all unwanted programs and applications that I install but forget to uninstall..

Formatting your computer won't result in the speed of computer. You have to find out what the problem is. I had made a clean format six months ago and I made a backup. Now If any thing goes wrong, I will simply restore my pc from backup which takes only 10 seconds and for installation it will take 24 hours as I use bunch of products.

I format my computer once every 2 months and i think is too much but i like installing programs and few hours later i unistall them.Because when you install a program there are some files being copied to systemroot folder and i am not sure when you uninstall they get deleted or not.But i find that after i unistalled a certain program space on my system doesnt change accoeding to how i expected and i think some files don't get deleted and i end up formatting.
