Have you noticed how much louder some commercials are then regular programing? I was sitting in my kitchen the other night and suddenly it sounded like someone was in my living room saying something to me....it was that much louder for when I do have the tv on I usually only have it turned up enough for you to hear when you are in the room. This has happened before when I have been upstairs too. All of a sudden it sounds like someone has come into the house and are downstairs talking to me. Sometimes when I am watching tv...I have to turn it down during the commercials! Have you noticed this? Do you think it's as irritating as I do?

i do see that they make the commercials louder. they will do anything to drawl our attention in! Might be why Toddlers even stop what they are doing to take a look-see!

It's not just commercials though.
I have satellite TV and the stations vary in their degree of l9iudeness as well.
Some stations I switch to will be so lopud then others so soft saounding with my volume level set at the same.

Yes, I've noticed that myself! This really irritates me when I'm watching something I really enjoy and then all of a sudden the adverts come on and I have to rush for the remote control, hopefully not tripping in the process, and lower the volume down quickly. I'm sure they're trying to say something by doing that! Probably "Hey bozo! Look at me I'm an advert, so pay attention!" Then, the adverts finally come to an end and you have to increase the volume once again. Some of the adverts are funny though and so, I do pay attention and end up having a little giggle! Andrew

I thought it was just me! LOL the other night while watching a movie, I had to turn the volume down everytime a commercial came on. Its really becomes a pain when a stupid commercial like those free credit report ones. They irk me to no end!

Well, I see it is a worldwide tendency. This happens not only in Italy as I thought.

I notice this all the time. It is soooo annoying! I notice it a lot when I watch a movie on USA or TBS. There is a huge difference in the volume levels once the commercials come on. I'll have to turn down the volume from 20 to 14 or so just so my ears don't bleed.

I've noticed this before. Commercials are getting louder! Please stop that, Comcast!

We have a great weapon against commercial: the remote control.

They've been doing that for years, and I wish they'd stop it!! They do it to get your attention. Lots of people take commercial time to run to the bathroom, or go to the kitchen for a snack, and I think they do that so that you can hear it no matter where you are. I think this is one of the most irritating sales tactics there is. It may get my attention, but I guarantee it's negative attention! I use the mute button a lot, and I have a hunch there's probably a lot of others who automatically mute the commercials too.

Yes and it can get to be very annoying.
Even on satellite TV channels it occurs. On Showtime after a movie they have previews of other movies they have on and those are even a lot louder than the regular show. This is a pain in the keister.

It is especially annoying when someone in the household is trying to sleep! All of a sudden a slight noise becomes the sound of a freight train! Living in an apartment I try to keep the noise down. So when a commercial comes on I get ready with my remote to turn the volume down. I hate that! Especially when the Oxyclean guy comes on yelling about the product he is trying to sell.

Yeah, I know! And, I hate that too.
It's very annoying.
And, usually I'll be watching a TV
program and another person walks
into the room about the time commercials
come on and they say,
"Turn that down, you'll wake the neighbors."
As if, I'm at fault for the sudden increase
in volume. As if, I'd actually INCREASE
the sound just to soak up every precious
word!
Can you imagine?

Yes! I can't remember which network it is, but it's the channel that Grey's Anatomy come on. Along about 4 in the evening the sounds fades away so bad I have to turn the tv up all the way just to hear the program when I'm in the room, then the commercial comes on and blasts me out!
I thought it was my local TV station, but while my Daughter and Son-in-Law were here in April they were watching Grey's Anatomy. When the commercial came on, my Son-in-Law jumped up and grabbed the remote to turn it down. He said I hate (whatever network it is). So obviously it does that in Oregon too.

Omgosh I was just talking to my boyfriend about this last night watchign tv. It is so frustrating because I'm constantly grabbing the remote and adjusting the volume! I have it at perfect volume for the show and then a commercial comes on and it's blaring! I mean I understand they want people to buy their products but come on ya don't have to make me go deaf to get the message!

omg yes very irritating different channels have different levels but this is way annoying!!! I don't sleep very well and will often flick during the night but just as i find the right level so as i can hear it but not wake my boo then it goes to commercials and blasts out and i end up jumping and waking him up trying to turn it down or i've drifted off and it wakes me up again. I agree with you 100% very annoying never really noticed it before but recently seems to happen all the time.

Yes I have noticed this and at times it is irritating. I've been told this is done on purpose. Seems to be an attention getter and it really works. When Billy, can't remember his last name, comes on I mute the television. He is loud anyway and sounds like he's yelling even more so now the commercials are so loud. I notice this moreso on channels other than local tv.

I have noticed that a lot lately and I thought for a long time that it was our television. However, I was at a friends house and it happened again so I knew that it had to just be the commercials. There is a Pillsbury one that is louder than any of them that I know of.

Hey jill! Yes I don't know what they think that it is
going to accomplish by blasting the commericials so
loud that we can go deaf. The first thing most people
do if they are in the room when the commericals go on
is to reach for the remote and lower it or mute it. I
wonder if like some other people said they do it so that
if people are getting up to leave the room that we will
still hear it in the rooms we are going to like the kitchen
or bathroom. I just don't see the point of how much louder
they are and sometimes the volume is actually startling
because it really goes up quite a few decibels. I know
that people have complained about this I just don't
understand why we still have to put up with it.
