reading would be a great help. I do love to read pocket books, magazines, and short stories loudly so that it'll help me to speak fluently.. and if I find some words that I am not familiar with, I will for surely look its meaning into the dictionary, and sometimes look for its synonyms. by that, It'll help me to enrich my vocabulary, and help me to practice with my English skills. watching English movies could also help.

I can't say that I am good in english but since you asked how we do to improve our vocabulary I will tell you how. The very best way is to read and read different kind of english books, and although you can encounter unfamiliar words, the next time you will read that word again it won't be your first time to encounter it. Another thing is that, when you read a book and you read a word that you haven't encountered before, try to read the whole sentence and try to understand what it imples and you'll surely know what does that word mean. That is what they call context clues.

Read, read, and then read some more. I always had my nose in a book growing up and I think that's where I learned so much. Also, pay attention around educated people. You'd be surprised what you can pick up just listening to people around you in conversation.

it's true that we learn a lot from listening to others & reading remains the ultimate way to improve our vocabulary. Thanks Ldyjarhead !!

Hello zatak, I know I don't have that excellent skills in communication. I think it would require a lot of efforts before you can really improve that skill. You must be a wide reader it does not matter what kind of reading materials you had in your home, you must read and read every time you have an opportunity. And if you can't understand the words you have read, just consult the dictionary until you have a rich vocabulary

I agree with you that you need to have a very strong command of the language to speak and express your feeling. I generally like to read a lot. It doesnot matter to me whether it is a newspaper or some short stores or anything. And while reading if i do come across some words of which i dont know the meaning, then i look into the dictionary for the meaning. And moreover my father says that to improve your skills in a particular language, start talking in that language with other people. not a problem if your vocabulary is not proper in the begining. but practise makes a man perfect so keep on talking in that language and it will improve.

When I go to my 'myMSN' or 'myYahoo' page in the morning I have a word of the day vocabulary word sent to me. I only bother to read it if it is a word I'm not familiar with. Stretching the vocabulary is always a good thing!

i read a lot. i think it really helps if you read a lot because you get to meet new words that you could use in your daily conversations. you could read words out loud so your pronunciation will be improved too. i do that a lot of times. you could also watch movies or shows where you think you could learn a lot. not those stupids ones where all yo do is laugh while watching.=D
