Given a choice: 9 of 10 DOWNS SYNDROME babies aborted.

Yes, it is true. Recently, a look at how often abortion occurs when DOWNS SYNDROME is known to exist showed a rate of 90%. Here's much more info about the topic. http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=37421 I say this is very sad, but that my wife and I might do the same thing. What do you say?

I think this is a travesty. It makes it look like a Down Syndrome child isn't worthy of life. I've seen lots of Down Syndrome children and they are as sweet as can be. I've heard parents say how much they add to their lives. We were in a republican meeting last Saturday night and the son of one of the guys running for Commissioner was there. The spokesman for the entire group used this young man to help him during the meeting and he was so nice. Afterwards, he came up and shook our hands and hugged my neck. I believe people who abort these children are doing wrong. Well, abortion to me is wrong in any form. God gives us the children and why do we have the right to abort any of them?

Why do we have the right to abort any child? In the USA it comes from a penumbra emanating from the US CONSTITUTION concerning the right to privacy each American is promised. These are not my words, but a paraphrase of the words in a real life decision of the US SUPREME COURT called ROE V. WADE. A vote for 0bama is a vote for someone who will appoint even more justices just like the author of the above words.

I've never been there, so I can't know for sure... But I know that if I were pregnant I wouldn't get the test done that detects Down's syndrome. It has too high a rate of false positive, and I really don't think I would have an abortion anyway. But like I said, I've never been there. I've never even been pregnant! So maybe my views on all this would change if/when I am.

Certainly a fair, honest, objective opinion.

I am disturbed by this statistic, although I knew about it before. A lot of people have really far fetched ideas of what it's like to be a person with Down Syndrome. They think that such people can't do anything. I know this is not true because I work with them and am proud to call several of them my good friends. They might learn much slower than the rest of us and not be capable of being rocket scientists, but neither am I. And if you put me in front of a math book, they might just beat me in acquiring knowledge. If I ever have a kid with Down Syndrome, which I might since I plan to adopt kids with disabilities, I'm going to insist that they try hard to learn, work, and play as any other child would. They need to be accommodated just like I do (because I'm in a wheelchair) but they certainly don't deserve not to exist. I really hope more people would realize that.

It just goes to show that Eugenics is alive and well... Hitler should be proud.

I knew a man in the 1970's married to a German woman. His older in-laws did tell him of the Nazi eugenics program. Infaticide was widely practiced on children with birth defects. Historical fact for those wanting to compare 0bama to Hitler. This is not completely off the mark.

I wonder if it would be different if the mother and father actually held the baby in their arms first...I don't think it would be that easy to abort. I think they see an abnormality rather than their own flesh and blood. People with DS are happy people. I don't believe it affects their quality of life in a way that calls for their life to be terminated pre-birth. 9/10 is a large statistic..very very sad. I honestly don't think I could abort my baby because of that reason. It would be different if the baby's health problems meant a lifetime of pain and suffering and endless hospital visits but Down's Syndrome is not a good enough reason to abort..I feel.

Someday, the laws on this might change. 0bama would never sign a law outlawing abortion for downs syndrome. McCain stated in the debate last night he is pro life. If this is an important issue for you, McCain is the man.

Hmmm. I might question that figure. But who knows. The people I've known who have Downs Syndrome children have never regretted having them. The ones I've personally known have been awesome kids (and adults). I cannot imagine aborting any baby, frankly.

Respect for life is an admirable character trait. I really do not understand the persons who despise Sarah Palin for opposing abortion. I personally believe abortion very early on is OK but I very much respect the idealism and reverance for life that goes along with being against abortion. I just don't know what is wrong with the pro-abortion people who despise the pro-life people.

My friend was 34 years old when her first son was born. The hospital staff were whispering and acting strangely then a consultant broke the news that her little boy has Down Syndrome. She goes to a support group and one lady was 19 years old when her Down Syndrome was born. Down Syndrome is difficult to detect 100% in a pregnancy unless invasive testing is done at the right stage in the pregnancy. Typically only ladies over 35 years old consider having an invasive test. The risk for a teenager or lady in her twenties in lower than a lady in her thirties. The little boy is a lovely child with a sweet look about him. He has a younger brother (normal) the same age as my second son. I have taught two children with Down Syndrome and I liked them. My youngest son has spina bifida and I found that out at 36 weeks pregnancy. I was offered an abortion and I said no way. I have a lovable 16 month old son and I would keep my baby not abort if he or she was likely to have Down Syndrome. All children are innocent. There is no way I could abort my baby but I respect other people's choices.

I understand because many people do not want to take care of down syndrome babies. It is their choice. Some body will say they won't be able to help with the community. I do know that many people do tease and bully those with down syndrome. Just imagine what their life will be like if they go to prison. But the person with down syndrome will reliaze that they are different from every one else.

its a very hard decision to make especially for the mother who is carrying the baby in her womb. i guess 70% of me will do the same thing as you'll do because otherwise it will be like dying every day seeing your child in pain. i won't be able to bear the suffering which he or she will be going through so i guess why 90% of us will go for abortion. but on the other hand it is not right for us to take the life of someone. it is like committing murder of your own child. i wish i never come across something like this to make any decision.

Yes, I am very glad I never faced a decision like this one. I know what I think I'd do, but I'm glad I never had to do it.

yes and next these people will be aborting babies if they think they will be ugly or skinny or fat .. where will it end? having a handicap in any form does not mean you have the right to kill them. Will they keep aborting babies until they have the perfect one? Only if it can be proven that the baby would live in severe pain everyday and nothing can help it should it be considered otherwise take what fate gives you and accept it with love.

Of all people, RUSH LIMBAUGH, once identified what would end abortion as a right. He has stated on his show that when testing of an unborn baby can reveal if it will become a homosexual, that the right to abortion will be lost. Rush speculates that if people can ever start aborting babies that are known to likely be homosexual, people would abort such babies in large numbers. Then liberals in the Congress will outlaw abortion. Rush sometimes has an unusual profound perspective.
