Here in the city where I live I have always found it safe to travel alone even at night. Probably because this city is very crowded and you see people on the roads even in the middle of the night. The only thing I avoid is to travel by a private vehicle at night. It is much safer to be travelling in public transport because they are crowded. What about the place that you live in....is it okay for females to be travelling alone at night....

Hi Mayka
u r lucky that u feekl safe, and true public transport is much safer
but the problem is when u move off road, away from main road, in strrets ,or deseerted areas then its not that adviseable to move alone
Here in our city, though there are no such incidents but still its not adviseable
Take care

I think it's getting to be dangerous just about anywhere, mayka. I don't like going into town to pick up my son if it's after midnight, as there seems to be a lot of activity with people in little groups roaming around - no doubt full of drink and who knows what else. I certainly wouldn't be using an ATM in town after dark. Unfortunately, even the daytime seems unsafe these days, as two days ago three elderly ladies were robbed and assaulted at our railway station by FIVE cowardly men who were 27/28 years old! Hard to believe these disgusting males felt the necessity to set upon three old ladies to take their pension money. One of the ladies had to be taken to a city hospital to have her face stitched and repaired - it was too badly damaged to be fixed at the local hospital. Shameful!

I live in the city too, although I believe there is no really safe place on earth. lol, honestly,I don't trust people around me now. There is danger everywhere so I still couldn't have peace or the security to walk on the road or our street. I remember this on eincident, I was on my way to work, it was 4am and I was walking on the sidewalk of the main road. It's not dark, there are few vehicles and it's highway so I felt secured. When suddenly I come across this guy and I dunno what's his pupose, he keeps on following me and so on. So what I did,I rushed to get a taxi and my way off. whew, that was the first time it happened to me. So after that, I become more careful.

The roads are becoming unsafe everywhere. When we read about incidents in our city we sometimes tend to feel that this problem is only in our city. But now I see that this feeling of insecurity is all over the world. We have to be careful when we walk on the streets at night.

In my place its safe to take journey at night times but walking alone is not advisable. as you said public transport is a better way or prepaid taxi/auto are available in plenty which is also so safe. due to techno growth the movement of people in night times also increased so well the govt also puts more security to take care

same with yours... its safe to travel in my city at night as long as you have at least a friend beside you because my city is crowd too. But its different if the night is above 12.00am. Thats to dangerous to go to a quite place alone especially for females.

There was a time when we would not be worried if we were travelling at 1 in the morning because we would see a lot of families and couples around and feel safe. But now with so many incidents being reported by the press people feel scared to be out at night.

we don't have public transportation. i think it's pretty safe but u just never know what is going to happen anywhere any more. i have no reason much to get out at night & i don't see well at night so i'm glad to stay in the house.

well i think most cities in different cuontries are not safe to travel to at night. but with few exceptions though. in my country is no different it is dangerous or risky to travel at night. cause you will not know where bad men will appear. and so we better not travel alone at night. it is much safer to travel in groups and should avoid walking on the streets at night.

There was a time when we felt here that if we were travelling in our own vehicle at night we would be safe as there was no one else in the vehicle with us. But of late there have been murders of women travelling alone in their own cars so this too has become dangerous. I myself prefer public transport while travelling at night.

Traveling by public transport in my city is very much safe and I am from Bangalore.Whatever the city is its better to avoid to take call taxi if you are alone and you need to travel to a remote area. Women when they travel make sure that you inform this to any of your friends and SMS them your travel details for a safer side.

I think the women should learn not to travel by taxis when they are alone at night. It is too unsafe. And even if circumstances force you to take a taxi always phone someone and inform them the vehicle number and make sure the driver hears you saying that. So that way he knows that someone somewhere knows that this women is in her taxi and he would not try any tricks. This is one way we can help ourselves and atleast frighten the driver in this way.

It depends on the neighborhood.
I feel pretty save in the part of town I live in,
but on the other side of town I wouldn't go outside after dark.

Travelling in my city at night it is so safe you cant imagine!!!!. There is no much public transportation in here (Utah) so most people just drive their own personal vehicles. It is totally safe though including females driving by themselves at night. There is no traffic at all, there is no vandalism or anything like that. I feel very safe in this place and I am glad I feel like that!!!

hi friend
in our city at night their is a very less amount of vehicle are running , that is why a very less chance of danger to accident or anything else like that accour in the city at night
second is that, the arrangement of the traffic police secure the life of citizen. means that they work a lot to maintain the traffic.

I am really afraid to say that the situation is not the same in our city. It is not safe for women to travel alone at night, specially when they drive their own vehicles alone. Recently, a TV journlist was killed by unknown people, while she was returning from her duty at about 3.30 a.m. in the morning and after much efforts, Police people are not able to nail down the culprits. Presence of appropriate public transport also gets reduced considerably after 12 at night, so one has to rely on Auto-Rikshaws, Taxis and private vehicles. Our city has a population of more than one crore, therefore, anything can happen anytime. It is better for a girl/woman to travel in a group, is she is travelling late at night.

I also feel that your place is much safer than our city, due to its multi-culture and population. I believe in Mumbai, life does not stop........it keeps on going round the clock.

I read about the TV journalist in your city. And she was travelling in her own vehicle....that was really shocking...I think both your city and ours are equally unsafe. They are both in the news for attacks on women...But women who have stayed in both the places say that here we are anyday safer than in your place.

well its not safe here but i have gone around at like midnight or later by myself.. although here its safer to have your own transportation just because where i live the bus stop is far away and my hubby actually got robbed on his way home from the bus stop one night and that was like at 8pm.. and taxis are too expensive!! but i dont really go out late unless its to get fast food or when i have a 24 hour grocery store etc..

Personally. I do not believe it is a good idea for any female to travel late at
night by herself - no matter how safe the neighborhood - unusual surprises could
appear from nowhere. It is safer to have a friend, especially a male . My neighborhood is safe to travel. I usually take public transportation or use a taxi on rare occasions.

Let assume there is a cut off time for public transportation.Your options are limited to either take a known taxi or call home for assistance or a male friend you are comfortable with to accompany you home. Play it safe

You're lucky that you feel safe when you travel at night. Here the more crowded the place the more you should be careful because these criminals blend in with them. Here it is advisable not to travel at night since there are a lot of bad things that happen during the night, that's why there are a lot of police stations scattered throughout the city since crime could happen anywhere.

i think it is very safe in my city at night, because i am not afraid, and i don't meet any dangerous situation, even when i am alone in my city at night. so i think it is very very safe, maybe i am wrong, because my friend met some bad guys and stolen her cellphone, and these guys were using knife to force her, it is very scared. so i think i can't judge that how safe is it for travellers in my city at night.

Mam, Leave about city. day before yesterday i finished my travel trip from coimbatore to chennai. i made night travel during both times. This is the first time i made night travel for a long journey in two wheeler.here some of the things i noted. that will be quite surprising.
"High beam Light" is the main reason for causing accidents in night.
you know, the lorry drivers are driving really slow at night. i saw every lorries going nearly 50 km speed. both private and government buses are bad in giving company with opposite vehicle.(they never change high beam to low, where lorry drivers have this habit)
Private buses are really worse that they are coming much nearer while overtaking. they don't bother about others i think.
Roads are not bad really good 90% and i had two times police verified at checkpost.
eventhough if we are a good rider, i dont recommend two wheeler travel at night. because there is much possibilities for us being dashed by opposite vehicle.
So, i am from coimbatore and enjoyed(scared)my night journey in that monster rain.
and for your last question, females can have night journey alone at night... my mother, as far i know, she is bold enough, travelling alone, when i was a child from.
but for girls, who are less than 25, i hope, its not good. or atleast there should be one person to send off and recieve.
So, have a nice day, Mam.. see you in another discussion!
