Oh yes.....we don't live in igloos; we don't all say EH?; we don't have snow all year around; in the Southern part of the country close to the American border and for several 1000 miles north we don't live in total darkness for part of the year. You may think I am pulling out only cliches but I have been asked each and every one of these questions from Americans. I live right on the border between the two countries, on the St Lawrence River. When I worked in Ottawa, our Nation's capital, which is about 1 hour north of the border (and my home) I was really asked by someone from America when we start to have the 24 hours of darkness. This person was on the phone with me and I had told him that I was working in Ottawa one hour from the border before he asked this question. I could not believe the question!!!! I have seen cars with American License plates come over here in the middle of July with skiis on their roof racks and ask me where the snow was. That they expected to go skiing!!!! In July it gets to be about 85 degrees here. So now you know a bit about Canada. You yes and don't say to a Canadian that "you guys are like our attack" or that we are "like our little brothers/sisters". We do not really like these type of derogatory remarks. We are a proud and very self sufficient country. We all live on the same continent therefore have more in common than not it seems. We have many, many comedians that have moved to the states. You really have to have a sense of humour up here sometimes to put up with well just stuff. We also say zed instead of zee. We spell things differently. Wow now that I have reread what I wrote I see it sounds like a rant. I did not mean it to sound this way but I am going to leave it as it is. Just so you can understand a few things. Please please I am not trying to cause trouble here!!! I am only pointing out things the we as Canadians talk about on a regular basis. Thanks for asking. Good Day Eh!!!

I agreed with everything you said until you got to the zed and the Eh. I, myself was born and raised in Ontario and I have always said "zee". That is how my parents and my teachers taught me the alphabet and that is what I will always say. And as for the "eh" thing, don't you think Americans think we say that far too often. Come on, they even make fun of us for it. Yes, I say it myself sometimes, but not the way they make it sound. Try not to promote more Americans thinking this way by using it around them. You are so right about the way they think of us as a bunch of Eskimos (Innuits - whatever we are supposed to say nowadays). I do not live in an igloo either, I don't eat raw whale blubber or live in darkness most of the year. New York is just a couple hours away from here, so how different could my city be from theirs? Also why do Americans think of us as their little brothers or sisters? First of all, Canada is BIGGER than the US. Maybe not in population, but we do have more land than they do. We are the second largest country in the entire world! Sorry, I don't want to sound like I am ranting either, but this topic really gets to me. I am Canadian and I am proud.
