i agree that a dictionary is a boring book. however, i work as a copy editor and i am often confused with word spelling and usage - so i use it quite often. i also look at it whenever i encounter words i've never met before.. time to time, i consult mr. dictionary.. i found that 'new words' are being introduced, and some words become obsolete. do you usually counsult a dictionary? can you remember when was the last time??

dictionary is the best book one could ever use. there are so many words and many different meanings to the same word that can be learnt through dictionary. i feel any language is best learnt by using dictionary for that language quite often than regular.

Hi! for me, dictionary is truly useful, I always consult to it whenever I've met a new words and also to know their usage as well as to see other similar words that I may use. It seems almost everyday I use dictionary, since English isn't my native language. Whenever I am writing like here in mylot, once in awhile, I'll look up to online dictionary for words and consult it if I use the word right. You're kinda right in saying that it is boring, having thousands of words and all, but it was also useful to us, quite a big help to understand more of these thousands words and learned their usage too.

Back when i worked as a nurse i often used a dictionary when charting (usually a medical Dictionary) and although i no longer work outside the home i still quite often find myself using a dictionary (webster or a crossword) because i like to do crossword puzzles.

I cannot remember when was the time I consulted a dictionary. I think I checked merriam webster just a few days ago. Same to you, I am working as a copy editor. Many times I have encountered new words so I really need to check if such words do really exist. Sometimes I cannot find it in the dictionary. Sometimes if I am not busy, I just look at the dictionary on the internet just to waste my time.

Hey Bebeth: Yes, I use it when I am on the internet and doing anything that involves words. It is a very valuable tool that is a must for me in my daily life. Also, thanks so much for enjoying the comment about songs in lieu of prayer. You truly made me feel appreciated and I am so glad that I had the opportunity to express that God wants to hear from all of us, all of the time, no matter what going on in our lives. Smile... Thanks, blessings...

haha! the last time i looked at a dictionary was when i was still in school, around 10 years ago. with the advent of the internet, whenever there are words i can't understand is still consult a dictionary, but i don't go to the bookshelf, i go online instead. this is more convenient and faster too...

I don't really consult an actual book dictionary but I think just this week I went to dictionary.com to look up something. I use that website a lot. Sometimes I use words and I know that I'm using it in the right context but I just want to make sure that I have it right. I think that the internet dictionary is really helpful because you get the information that you need really quickly so you can continue with the work that you have to do a lot quicker.

I agree too that the dictionary is a very bland book and unless you know the word your looking for I can't find any other use for it. I must admit I haven't looked in a dictionary for years as I often do a spell check on the computer rather than pull out a dictionary and flick through the pages. Perhaps i'm just lazy nowadays and it's true improvements in technology are making us lazier compared to how people used to live hundreds of years back. My dictionary which I bought several years ago for school is now buried in amongst my old school and college work left redundant in the bottom of a box somewhere in my room. Poor mr dictionary

Last night. I had to consult the dictionary often because I am a teacher. I also use online dictionary and electronic dictionary. It helped me a lot. But I prefer the traditional way that is flipping from cover to cover.

When I am on the computer I open a Word Document and use it to check spelling on words that are difficult for me. I also like to use Word to find synonyms so that I do not sound redudant. So for me I would say almost daily. My husband used to sit and read the dictionary or an encyclopedia. He is too busy for that now because now he reads schematics for tube amps. LOL (just as boring to me)
