don't you hate it when your brain won't shut off? I can't stop thinking about certain things... and it is really starting to drive me crazy and i think its even making lose sleep... waking up over and over again... i don't know how to stop!! i can only keep myself busy for so long. what do you do when you can't stop thinking? how do you chill out ? because nothing seems to be really working for me... it might for a minute but then i will start to think about it again lol

It seems like you are stressed over something. My brain does not shut down when I have a problem in my head. It happens even when I sleep. I remember when I was studying, I have math problems going over in my head again and again. It was frustrating. I get up more tired than before I slept. I think you need to find the source of your stress and eliminate it. You did not say what it was here, so I can't help with that. But you could try to listen to music, maybe it might help. Watch a funny movie, maybe it can help to lift your spirits.

Man can I relate with this one. It has happened many times for me, and it can be hard to deal with, and sometimes interupt other things going on in your life as well to where you sometimes just have to wake up and Write it down somewhere, or find paper when you are other places just so your mind can relax for a while so you can sleep, or do the other things you are needing to be doing as well. That is a good reason for a site like this. We can come here and talk about it here, and hopefully be able to then relax and get back to sleep or other things we might need to do as well.

yeah, i thought about trying to write out how i was feeling yesterday.. like write my thoughts out to see if that would help but i never got around to doing it.. i think i will try today..writing things out sometimes help and i agree. i love mylot because i don't really have anyone i can go to talk about problems with so i come here and write them out sometimes. its nice to know your not the only one going through something.. and usually no matter the problem there is always someone else out there going through the same thing as you.

You have raised the issue that has been in mind for quite some time.I just used to get annoyed of the incessant thinking of the brain. But I know that how fatal it is if the brain stops it's activity. If it wavers too much focusing it to a simple thing like reading and listening to your favorite music helps a lot.

Not to sound like some psycologist or something but if this happens often you could be stressed or depressed. Its not normal behavior and if it happens regularly then I would definitely say that you should not ignore it.

it doesn't happen regularly... i haven't had this problem in a pretty long time actually... some of it might be because i'm depressed.. but i am not really sure.

I have that problem all the time. There are too many things going on right now and a lot of constant worrying. I don't sleep much and I haven't been able to for a long time. At night is usually when I spend most of my time on the computer because I have kids and wonderful housework to do. I keep my mind somewhere else like MyLot at night until I get tired enough to go to sleep. Unfortunately, I haven't found a way out of it. I don't think it will stop until I get this stress off my back. Good luck to you because I know exactly what you are talking about.

I am sorry but I am very curious about what you are thinking about. If I have to think about something all the time, it must be something so terrible that I just could not forget about it. Have you ever tried seeking for medical advice. Maybe you can go and have counseling at your place so that the person can help you forget about the things you are thinking about. I really pity you because the thing which is bothering you in affecting your health and the quality of your life. You cannot have a good night's sleep because of this situation and this is a serious problem. Yes, try and seek real help from others near you. You can ask somebody whom you trust. I hope the person is able to help. Take care, hugs and kisses from me.

Yeah, it happens to me everyday. I want to hit my head, bang a lot of times on the wall or any other solid thing. I get to sleep for only 3 hours in a day. Ideas/thoughts keep rushing in, flowing from everywhere... What I do? I try keeping my eyes close.. but still my head is thinking... "what topic will i write in mylot? should I wash my clothes now? what will I search for in my homepages friends? when will my mom visit me? should i text her now?...." and so on... i take a deep breath, and wind down. I think about nothing. I know it's hard. But you have to teach yourself to relax first. then think of something that you wanna do or wanna eat, just to keep your mind away from stressful thoughts.

AT times like those, I take 3 generic benedryl and it puts me to sleep! Usually I can stop thinking if I pray, giving my troubles to God helps a lot.

Ugh! I've thought of the same thing. I want my brain to shut down even at least for just a while. It's so frustrating when you want to rest but you can't stop thinking of things you did or need to do. In order to chill out, playing musical instruments or video games are my only refuge so far. I tend to forget everything while doing those but after that, it starts all over again and I feel worse haha.

I know that feeling. I got it sometimes and I got it now too because of some work to my school. It happens to me mostly when I have some duties and I still postponing it for later. The worse is, I got this thinking mostly when I lay into bed and trying to sleep, then I suddenly start thinking about certain things and that is it. It can takes hours for me to fall a sleep. Only think I can do is trying to persuade myself that I have still lot of time to do that works later.

That is a big problem.Sometimes, I encounter something make me crazy, and I can't stop thinking too.Fortunately,i dont last long.I give you some advice and can do for you.The most important is find the real reason why you are so comfortable and make it clear. The second, you must distract attention .you can keep yourself busy ,for example, talking with your close friends, doing housework, traveling all over world, and so on. Good luck!!

I take a pill, Calms, it's a herbal that you can get over the counter. This seems to stop spin in my mind long enough for me to get on to other things. I have to be mindful though that as soon as the spin starts to come back I use visualation to calm it.

I just can't stop thinking only when I have a problem stick to my head. Asking myself what better solution for it until it affects even my sleep. Sometimes I just sleep it away then I will wake up in the middle of the night thinking again whatever was bothering on my mind. Maybe the solution of it is to relax first your mind so you can sleep soundly. I have try it before and it works for me.
