What was your most precious possession someone borrowed and never returned?

When I was in college, a classmate borrowed my copy of the book, The Picture of Dorian Gray. It was precious to me not only because I loved the book and Oscar Wilde is one of my favorite authors, but more so because that book was given to me by grandmother, who had written a very touching birthday message for me on one of the book's pages.

i have a collection of the Eraserheads tapes, a famous band in the Philippines which sadly has disbanded a few years ago. my friend's brother borrowed them from me and i never got them back.

Thanks for replying. Those tapes must have a lot of sentimental value, coming from the era when music was nowhere near as accessible as it is now and you had to wait patiently by the radio for a chance to hear your favorite songs. When tapes weren't cheap and you had to make your own compilations using blank ones, hoping that you'd be able to press record just when the DJ stops talking before the song begins and before he starts talking again as the song ends. Hehe. The fact that you had store-bought tapes probably means you had to buy them with money saved from your school allowance, too. I'm sorry for your loss, but I hope the memories of the band and the times remain with you. =)

hahaha! yes! i used to do that also when i was young... wait for the DJ to stop talking and then press the record button only most of the time, he's still talking and the song's beginning to play. yes, my tapes were store-bought and some of them i got from the actual concerts. sniff... sniff... oh well, at least, now i have all the albums in my ipod. thanks!

I was at the Cutterpillow launch at the UP Sunken Garden, that's where I got my tape =) Maybe they'll have a re-reunion concert where they'll sell a compilation of all their songs ever, including live performances and even songs that were never released. :D

Hi there magicslate! I have had several experiences on lending people things that were never returned. I hated myself for being too trusting. One thing that I lent that was never returned was a CD of Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits. Another thing borrowed from me and was never returned was a jacket given to me by my mom. The one who borrowed it kept promising that she will give it back to me. She never did. Worst, she already lost it. Urgh!

Hi, and thanks for replying. Sometimes things happen in life that makes us wonder whether we meet certain people just so we can improve our capacity to forgive. Hehe.

I had a favorite book which was given to me by my bestfriend and my cousin borrowed it from me. For a couple of months, i tried to get it from her but she told me that it was stolen from her. I really get mad at her because that was the last souvenir which i really treasure from my bestfriend in high school.

Thanks for sharing your story. It's one of my pet peeves when people don't return books. Especially since I have a bad memory when it comes to remembering who borrowed which books.
