Actually, I was planning to ask "Why do guys learn how to cook?" but decided to keep it in a broader sense. :D
My mum doesn't really like me to cook because most of the time, I will just make a big mess in the kitchen. I only started to cook during my university years and it's fun! I can use my creativity to design the food, and cook whatever I want.
Funnily, I love eating my own cooking. I know most people don't eat what they cook, somehow.
But the main reason why I started to learn cooking is - I don't to rely on my wife for food in the future. Who knows maybe one day, she will become angry with me and refuse to cook! I don't think I want to die of hunger. That's why I started to learn how to cook.

Yeap, preparing own meals is definitely a cheaper option..and it's healthier too.

I started learning to cook when I was about 8 for one reason, mom slept in that morning, now nat (my brother and I) both woke up before our mom, and were both hungry, we didn't want to wake her up, so we decided to make our own eggs, now we knew we werent allowed to use the stove so we used the microwave, I made a funky looking and rubbery tasting fried egg, and nat made something REALLY weird, he added 1 cup of sugar to 1 egg. yeah. never said we were smart, and his looked better than mine so I asked him to make me one too XD LORL It was soo sweet I couldnt even finish it, I started stove top cooking when I was 9, and baking when I was 10, its amazing how many moms dont allow their kids to cook, mine did and now I'm pretty good, I love baking most though, and I'm best at that :P

I will never be able to bake well since it's too tedious for me. =_=
Yea, maybe most moms don't want to have their house being burnt down due to their playful kids. :D

My mom and dad both worked long hours when I was younger. So in my early teens I learned to cook. I had my grandmother and my mother teaching me. I was pretty good. That way I was able to help out.My hubby by the way is a better cook than I am.

My grandmother doesn't know how to cook :P My grandfather used to be a restaurant chef though. But he passed away when I was 1. :(

Well I think you've answered your own question there. So that we do not starve! Although ther are many foods that take no preparation or very little, it is better to eat a substainable meal and one that you will not soon get tired of.

when i started living in with my husband, i was forced to learn to cook. in our country, you are looked down upon when you already have your own family and you still don't know how to cook, especially if you are a woman. but i don't really care about that. what really drove me to learn cooking is that i want to cook for my husband, and now that we have a baby, she can benefit from my cooking too

Hmm but when your baby starts to walk a lot, it's a little bit difficult to take care of so many things at once right - the crying baby and the fish which is going to get burnt soon. :D

LoL. Once I tried to cook when my housemaid was absent. But unfortunately I burnt my hands! From that day I rather starve than go to cook.
