Crock Pot Soup?

I've never made a homemade soup that was very tasteful. I tried making what my grandma likes to call "Goolosh" last night in the crock pot. It's not very good at all. I put a can of peeled tomatoes, can of green beans, mushrooms, Kielbasa sausage, tomato sauce, water and macaroni pasta. I wasn't really going by a recipe, just using some items from my pantry. Well I guess I put the pasta in too soon because the texture of the whole thing is YUCK! Any tips on fixing it... if possible because I really don't want all of this food to go to waste but I doubt my husband will eat it and I can't blame him. Any tips for future soups to try in the crock pot?

I used a Rachael Ray recipe for Black Bean Stoup (a sort of stew/soup) in the crockpot, and it came out great! unfortunately, we lent someone the recipe book, so I don't have it anymore. I think your recipe needed more of a 'base' - too many different things, maybe?

I love Rachel Ray. It's a shame you don't have the recipe! I would love to have that. I love black beans too. What do you mean 'base'? I'm new to cooking so I'm not really sure what you mean. I really wanted a soup with more lentils but didn't have any since I don't normally cook with them. So I just went with what I had. Thanks for your comment though.

It's hard to cook pasta right in a crock pot,not impossible but difficult. For now while you're learning about flavor with making things in the crock pot, just cook the pasta on the stove top & add it to whatever you've made in the crock. As for the soup you already tried to make- you could try scooping out the overcooked pasta, and adding some spices to the base to see if that improves the flavor, then add fresh, cooked pasta. I've never had or made goulash, but what if anything did you add for spices? Did you use any onion? Onion, celery & carrots give a nice flavor to many soups (not sure if they'd be appropriate for this one), pepper is usually a good idea, garlic might help. Tomato-based meals taste nice with cilantro, parsley, basil, or oregno- don't use all of these, but one or two may perk up your soup.

I did use salt, pepper, parsley and fresh garlic. The flavor isn't all that terrible, I think it's just the texture that turned me off to begin with. The spices from the kielbasa sausage added some kick to it as well. I'm going to attempt at scooping the pasta out... we'll see how that works. I would've added onion because I had 1/2 one left in my fridge from night before but it totally slipped my mind.

aconner, Your soup certainly looks rather plain jane here. I just cannot help but notice the lack of vital ingredients, anyway I will just post this for Beef Goulash recipe to avoid another mishap. Also, Goulash is not really a crock pot soup. Ingredients: 1. 1 pound macaroni 2. 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef 3. 1 small yellow onion, diced 4. 1 green bell pepper, diced 5. 1 cup sliced mushrooms 6. 1 (8.75 ounce) can whole kernel corn, drained 7. 1 (8 ounce) can peas, drained 8. 1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes, cut in half and drained 9. 1 (14.5 ounce) can crushed tomatoes 10. 4 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste 11. 2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce 12. 24 fluid ounces water 13. 1 tablespoon chopped garlic 14. 1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese 15. 1 tablespoon dried parsley 16. 1 teaspoon salt 17. 1 teaspoon black pepper 18. 1/8 teaspoon white sugar Cooking directions: 1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add macaroni and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain. 2. In a large saucepan, brown the ground beef with the onion, green pepper, and mushrooms; drain. Add corn, peas, stewed tomatoes, crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Stir and bring to boil over medium heat. 3. Mix in garlic, parmesan cheese, parsley, salt, pepper, sugar and simmer for 20 to 25 minutes. 4. Mix together cooked macaroni and meat sauce. Serve hot or refrigerate for later. I will share some nice crock pot soup recipes and hope you will like them: Corn and Winter Melon Soup Ingredients: * 250g, Pork Ribs, cut and clean * 300g Winter Melon, cubed * 1 Corn, chopped into 4-5 pieces * 1 tablespoon Wolfberries * 1.5 litres Water * Salt to taste How to do it: 1. Put all ingredients except salt into the pot. 2. Set the pot to automatic and leave it to cook. 3. Add salt to taste before serving. Note: * Use the melon's skin when you cook this soup to enhance the taste. * For best results, start the cooking in the late morning. The soup will be very nice by dinner time. Watercress with Pork ribs Ingredients: * 250g Pork Ribs * 1 bunch Watercress * 5 Red Dates, pitted * 1 handful Wolfberries * 11/2 litres Water * Salt to taste How to do it: 1. Blanch pork ribs 2. Add all ingredients, except salt in a pot. 3. Cook in automatic setting. 4. Simmer for an hour at low setting before serving. 5. Add salt to taste. I hope that you will be able to enjoy them and the tips on the goulash helpful. Take care.

My grandmother is from Romania, her Goulash had all sorts of stuff in it, ground beef (or cubes of steak), kidney beans, onions, stewed tomatoes (she also told me she used tomato paste), peppers (which ever she had on hand, some times it was hot peppers) pasta (what ever she had left over in the fridge), and bits of a spicy sausage she got from the butcher in the neighborhood. She told me that generally Goulash is like Chili, meaning that you make a soup of your leftovers, so every time you'd make it it would be a little different.

Yes, that's exactly what I was going for, But I didn't have all that good stuff on hand and I put my pasta in too early I guess. :( I'll try again another day. Hopefully then it will be better.
