Are You Superstitious?

Is anybody here superstitious about anything? I am asking because I am closing in on my 666 post. (This is NOT a "bragging" or "milestone" post, please let it stay active!). And, of course, many people see 666 as a bad number. They might call it the "Devil's Number". They might say that it represents the Mark of the Beast. Other people who are just as religious say that it is just a number. But a lot of people, even non-religious people, will grab a pack of gum at the counter to add to their purchases if their total rings up to $6.66. Or they will throw away their Lotto tickets if the numbers they scratch off are 6, 6, and 6. And so on and so forth. And, I admit, when I reach my 666 post, I will probably try and hurry and quickly make another (quality) post somewhere to get rid of it and move on. Isn't that strange? Or is everybody else superstitious like that? Thanks for your responses! :)

Actually to be superstitious is subjective i.e. if one thing suits someone but it may not suit the other one. So superstition is in our mind not in numbers and other things. When some sort of thing or happening does not suit us, we start to avoid it and termed that a superstition. And moreover, sometimes certain kind of circumstances are developed which make us a sort of superstitious about a certain thing or happening. So if everything goes well, nothing seems to be superstitious and vice versa.

You are definitely correct that it is subjective. Each person is different. And our own feelings about superstitions vary depending on whether everything is going well or going bad! Thank you for your response! :)

Superstitious ? Am not . I believe in reason and what my mind tells me to believe in . I believe in GOD the founder of us whose will upon us is to work then to get the results. I do not believe in metaphysical explanations nor I accept to run my life according to numbers or some normal expressions .As I'm concerned, human being live accordind a destiny already made by GOD. It would be natural if something bad or good happened to you. That is the meaning of life, the mixture of misfortune and good fortune. This is my point of view about superstition.

I also believe in reason. Everything definitely happens the way that God intends for it to happen! Good and bad are both natural like you said! Thank you for your response! :)

Hello, EAStanley.
I am not a superstitious person. I believe that everything happens for a reason, there is nothing going to happen just because you put a garlic in your necklace. It will not affect the way things are.
666 is surely known as the Devil's number. There is a song from Iron Maiden called "The Number of the Beast". I don't think so. 666 is not evil, but I'm sure there is an explanation as why was this number famous for being evil. Something scary, probably, but it doesn't mean that it is true.
For me, it does not matter the number. What matters is the person. If the person is not good, then there surely will be evil against him/her. Even if he is wearing a necklace with the number of the angels, or even if he prays to God his entire day. He has an evil will? Then there will be evil in his life.
Respectfully,
Munhozmib.

I also believe that everything happens for a reason. A number will probably not affect the way things are. It is definitely all a matter of what kind of a person you are. I agree with this. Thank you for your response! :)

I really do not mind that number. If you will keep on believing that it's not good, then something bad might happen to you. Just treat it as number. Never mind other people's beliefs, they are just complicating themselves.

You are right, it is just a number! No need to create a self-fulfilling prophecy! And there is definitely no need to complicate life! Thanks for your response! :)

I think most of us are. The City Beautiful where I stay these days is a very well planned city but does not have Sector 13. I have seen many people responding quickly if a black cat crosses their way. Many apply brakes to their vehicles even at the risk of an accident. They would wait till somebody else passed that point and think that it was safe for them after that. Many of the superstitions are inherited from generation to generation. But the change is also observed when the youngster are found not believing them. May be they are so busy that they don't get a chance for reinforcement of these beliefs. In fact, a superstitions is likely to be embedded more if it is reinforced by some experiences of your own or of those who matter most in your lives. Luckily, I am free from superstitions and that creates problems at times because most of the family members and friends around me believe in superstitions.

Ya, I am partially superstitious when come to numbers. I believe there no good numbers or bad numbers. Because it all depends on individuals. Different people have different lucky numbers or unlucky numbers. In other words, 666 might be lucky numbers to someone, but not to someone else. I have heard that, people do not like to live in 13th floor. But in some places, it's just like normal for them. They are living happily and nothing wrong with the number of floor. Therefore, I think each of us are having our own lucky numbers.

Im not superstitious at all, basically all superstitions come from old wives tales. The mumber 13 is my favorite number too, my husband got married April 12, 1984 and that was a Friday the 13th. It worked for us.. lol

I just remember such superstitions when occassions comes, but I never allow them to interfere with my decisions. But I feel on some occassions it is good to obey those superstitious thoughts. If we cross our superstitious feelings, we ourselves will make mistakes and later blame it on our disobedience.
One kind or other type of superstition will be there for all people.

Me personally am not superstitious. Things always happen for a reason. But the reason most people get weird about certain number is cause of things they have been taught. It is like with black cats, and certain phases of the moon. Most of the things people are superstitious about started for a reason just that reason is now gone or forgotten. Superstitions are handed down from one generation to another. When I get weird about certain things, I like to go and do research on why that is a superstition. Knowledge is power and with power you can overcome anything.

Why afraid of the number? that triple # is just a symbol of a name of a person that can change your life to be worst or to become better. This belief must be founded or else, you will always be nervous whenever you reach a certain #. Be stong in your belief in God and life.

I don't know if I'm superstitious per se, but I do believe in hedging my bets. Why court disaster when it's just a simple step to avert it. Granted, I don't move to the other side of the street when I see a black cat or what have you, but I don't think it's a bad thing to be wary of flying in the face of age-old traditions.

I am a really superstitious person but for some reasons numbers don't seem to affect me too much. Although I know of the conitations 666 has on people I wouldn't worry too much about it. I always feel the number 13 is more lucky than unlucky too.
It's not just numbers that worry me though i'm more worried about the old wives tales that are well know...for example walking under a ladder is deemed to be very unlucky as is breaking a mirror. Although recently I have discovered why breaking a mirror is unlucky and they say you get seven years bad luck for breaking one...apparently back in time a couple of hundred years and if a maid or servant broke a mirror it would have taken them seven years of their earnings to pay back the value of the broken mirror. So this is where that superstition came from. There are so may old wives tales and many do in actual fact have fairly plausible meanings when looked at from the past.
The only real superstition that has no logic and really can't be proved is the magpie one. Apparently it is really unlucky to see a magpie on it's own and they only way to counteract the bad luck is to salute it. My mum taught me a rhyme when I was younger for remembering how unlucky magpies were...1 is for sorrow, 2 is for joy, 3 for a girl, 4 for a boy, 5 for silver, 6 for gold and 7 for a secret never to be told. There are more but only ever remember up to seven.
Black cats is also another one although I never know whether they deemed lucky or unlucky?

You are right about the number 13! A lot of people feel that 13 is unlucky! Yes, I remember all of those old wives tales! I try to avoid all of those things, too! *shivers* I admit that I had never heard of the magpie one. I'll have to look into that one. And, of course, the black cats. I think they are unlucky, but I can't remember why. I will try to look into it and get back here with more information. :) Thank you for your response! :)
