I like collecting old time things. I have a comic book from the 30's. I have a cashed and cancelled stock certificate from a Railroad Co dated the early 20's. Now as I was up at the farm cleaning out the pole barn I ran across a ferw cardboard boxes. As I lifted the first one I heard glass rattling inside. Bummer. Well I did find 4 jars total. These are older canning jars. Not sure of their age or what not. But 2 are ATLAS E-Z SEAL, and 2 are Ball Ideal jars. They have the steel clasp that goes across the glass top to seal it. They are missing the rubber gaskets/seals though. There is no rust on the clasps really either. Does anyone have an idea as to their age and or worth? Have you any old jars such as these?

Awesome find. You should check out antique roadshow and see if they are coming to your area soon :) Their website may have some useful information also. I'm sure you have already searched online.

I love the old time things myself. I used to love to go to estate sales in the country with my mother when I would go visit her. I have heard of those jars because my grandmother and my aunt used to can all the time. I remember also when they would use parafin to put on top of their jams and jellies they canned. I will do some checking later for you on the jars.

They still do use paraffin wax for jellies etc as a seal.
Thanks also for your help.

hi Grandpa Bob mymom seventy years ago used Ball ideal jars and atlas ez seal, they are really old with the steel clasp. wonder what they are worth? I wish I did have some of them, I found a glass hobnail vase I was given when I was ten, and I am now 82, well will be on the fifteenth of Nov. I wrapped it gently and packed it with the stuff we are moving. sitting around with all these boxes is giving me the whim whams. be glad when we are moved.

Seems these are actually made from 1923 to 1933.
So they are around 70 plus years old.
I love them.
The Atlas have not been researched by anyone yet though.
Good luck with the move also.

I have a silver certificate, not sure what the year is. I had it in one of my bibles. One day when I was going to church, I wanted to use that particular bible and couldn't find it. Gee, I looked everywhere, then one Sunday when I was getting my other bible out of the car for church, I saw it there.
My husband has a Davy Crockett plate, when he was a kid he always ate off of his Davy Crockett plate, but it got broken. He went on ebay maybe ten years ago, and found one for sale, we won the bid and now he has an authentic Davy Crockett plate.

I'd hazard a guess of somewhere around the 40's...if you ever get Antique Roadshow in your area you might take some of your oldies to them...they are really good at knowing value and age.
I have a silver certificate that is really old but that's about it.

Grandma used to use those but I don't know how much they are worth. They're at least 50 years old, though, since she was using them before I was born and I'm 54. Are you selling them? Bad time to sell, hang onto them till the economy gets better!

I've got a few old jars like that, I have a lot of old things in my house, as my mother in law collects antiques, and they are all over the place. I would suggest going to an antique store and see if they can tell you anything about the jars. I have an old butter churn jar, and I went to the antique store and saw one just like it, and it was worth 75.00, I couldn't believe it, there were a number of items I saw in there that I have at home, and they were worth more than I thought. So go to an antique store and you might find out more about them.
