Technically, because a tomato is the ovary including seeds of a flowering plant it is a fruit or more specifically a berry. However, because vegetable is not a botanical definition, it can also be classed as a vegetable, as vegetable traditionally is used to refer to the edible parts of plants.

It's both. Botanically, it's a fruit. By common usage, it's a vegetable.

the reason why a tomatoe is considered a fruit because tomatoes have a pulp and seed as a fruit does even though it,s use as a vegetable.

The tomato is native to Central, South, and southern North America from Mexico to Argentina. Though it is botanically a berry, a subset of fruit, the tomato is nutritionally categorized as a vegetable. I do think that it is a vegetable.

Although we use it as a vegetable tomatoes are actually a vegetable and peanusts are actually beans or legumes. I wouldnt put a tomato in a fruit salad though. I like them alot better in the vegetable category. Oh well what are you going to do?

I know what you mean there has always been a big disagreement about whether a tomato is a fruit or a vegetable because some people say it is a fruit because it looks like a fruit, and some people say it is a vegetable because it is grown the way a vegetable is usually grown, but it is hard to tell who is right,I personally have always thought it is a vegetable because it does not seem like a fruit in the way it looks, smells or tastes, and I have always been told it is a vegetable by my parents and teachers.

A tomato is a fruit vegetable. My son who is in third grade had a science exam last week about plants. Let's recall the parts of a plant. We have the roots, stem/trunk, leaves, flowers and the fruits. Fruits are further classified into the fleshy fruits like mango, banana, apple etc and vegetable fruits like tomato, eggplant, chayote, squash, etc. I enjoy teaching my son ... I get to remember everything I learned from gradeschool. Honestly, i do forgot some of them. :)

I cooking, tomato is considered a vegetable because of the way it is used. However, since the tomato is the flower of a plant, it is considered a fruit. The same issue applies to peppers and other flowering "vegetables".
