Palin's Children Traveled On State's Money

According to an article I just read, Sarah Palin charged the state for her children to travel with her, even when they hadn't been invited to an event. It also said she later changed reports to make it look like they were on official business.
Tony Knowles, a former Alaskan governor said he never charged the state for his three children's commercial flights or claimed their travel as official state business. He said, "There was no valid reason for the children to be along on state business. I cannot recall any instance during my eight years as governor where it would have been appropriate to claim they performed state business."

I read about this and I found it disturbing. I also found it disturbing that her fourteen year old daughter was signing autographs on the campaign trail. But I find just about everything Sarah from the Frozen North does to be disturbing. For so long women have had to be brilliant to accomplish anything in politics, it really bothers me that the likes of Sarah Palin can just ride in on their coat tails. I'll be glad when this election is over and her fifteen minutes of fame are done.

It's obvious that you don't care for the woman. So I think it's possible that you're selling her short. I like Gov. Palin just fine. I think she's a great woman. And I doubt you've seen or heard the last of her.

"She's not great at anything."
Spoken through complete ignorance. She's given Alaska a budget surplus, cut wasteful spending, negotiated the plans for a natural gas pipeline, and has had record high approval ratings. You may disagree with her on the issues, but you have to be pretty ignorant to make a statement as stupid as that.

This really stinks, and it's not uniquely American either. I think a Canadian governer general had to resign because she took a bunch of her friends on expensive trips and paid for it with the taxpayer's money. It really stinks when politicians act like this. What gives them the right to take advantage of the system, this way?

Taking your friends on a bunch of trips is quite different than taking your children with you so you can spend time with them.

"The trips enabled Palin, whose main state office is in the capital of Juneau, to spend more time with her children."
OMG! Let's place charges against her! Impeach that woman and mother! How dare she want to work and spend time with her children!
Um ... Palin spent about $114,900 traveling in 2007, versus the $516,600 Murkowski spent the year before, according to state records. Not bad.

I could have sworn this was old news. Of course they seem to like to bring up the old news.
What kind of mother would want to spend more time with her kids at the expense of the government! Welfare moms do it all the time. Guess moms who have a job like governor aren't suppose to be mothers or quit and go on welfare. Then it's okay.

Do ypu honestly think welfare moms can afford to travel? I never faulted her for wanting to spend time with her children. Her children hadn't been invited to the events, and she CHANGED public records to say they had. That is what I have a problem with, not her spending time with her children. I was just telling what I had read. I never said she should be impeached. I didn't put my personal opinions in this post at all.

Hey, I was just comparing to the working mom getting money from the government to a welfare mom getting it. I'd rather the working mom have it. That's all I'm saying.

I don't believe that her children should be flying on the tax payer's dime. If it is business than it's not the state's responsiblity to provide travel expenses for her children. A business owner cannot write off their children's travel when the owner of the business travels and decides to takes their children with them.

It amazes and amuses me how Palin's supporters turn this into a "family values" issue, saying how it's fine for her to want to take her children with her. Hello? Nobody is disputing that anymore than anyone is disputing she may have needed new clothes for the campaign; the problem is she charged the travel expenses for her kids to the state illegally and then tried to change the records, as you said. There are always so many different excuses and justifications for whatever this woman does. Then they can't figure out why her negatives have gone up so much and so many people consider her to be a drag on McCain's campaign!

Everyone's gotta remember something. Sarah Palin did NOT take advantage of her position as governor, she is not a millionaire. Her children and husband are going to have expenses too, and they don't live above their means. She likes to be around her children, and I think it's a great experience for them to see their mother breaking glass ceilings like she's been doing. Her state has a huge surplus because of her wise budgeting, and she's even taken a lot of that money and given it back to the citizens of her state.
And, do not believe everything you read. There's no way, unless they had direct ties to the state's government, for them to know that. A lot of people will throw anything out there.

I just commented on that article! I think that she should be able to take her kids, but not at the expense of the government. The state of Alaska should not have to pay for her kids to have a vacation. Also according to the article she didn't even show the money took from the state on her taxes so that's the same as stealing it in my book. I've also heard that her husband spent an obscene amount of hours in her office when she was mayor. Also according to the article she is being investigated for taking money for three hundred days that she spent at home if I read it correctly. I'm going to go ahead and say it. We can't afford for the possibility of such a flaky character becoming president. It just doesn't seem right. Just read the article and you'll get the feeling that she really is not one of the common Americans. She stated something to the effect of when your mayor it just happens. This seems obnoxious to me.
