What kind of attitude do these people have?

Our administrators organized an activity for the employees of the university. It is timely because semestral break officially started last Saturday so that means that we are on a two-week break (except for non-teaching staff). It is actually a 2-day affair. That's supposed to be yesterday (whole day) and today (half day). I attended yesterday's activity for the whole day but decided not to attend today (with permission) because I want to spend the day with my family because it is my birthday. Yesterday, the activity started at 8:30 in the morning. During the registration which was from 8:00 to 8:30, there were so many employees signing up. The auditorium was practically filled at that time. After about 30 minutes, I noticed that the population decreased by about a hundred. But during the break when snacks were served, there seemed to be an endless queue and people who were not there earlier were on queue. After the break, the population got smaller. When lunch was announced (again, to be served), there was a long queue and I started to wonder why these people are not participating in the actual activity but were there during the snack and lunch. We were given a little more than an hour for the lunch break. When we got back to the auditorium to continue with our activity, only less than a quarter of the population before lunch was there. So the activity went on until around 3 pm as another break was announced. Well, just like in the morning, the population of people lining up for the snacks being served grew by several folds. After getting their snacks, they were out of the auditorium. I stayed with the others until about 5:30 in the afternoon. By then, there were less than a hundred in the auditorium. I did not attend today but I just received a text message from my colleague informing me that what happened yesterday happened just few minutes ago. Like there was a long queue for the registration but the auditorium was not really filled with participants. Then, when coffee break was announced, there were more than a hundred lining up to get their snacks. I can only imagine how it will be 2 hours from now when lunch will be announced.. Geez! They are just there for the free food! Don't they feel ashamed of their attitude?

Hi dolce, hmm....I am sure this is a common problem in every school! LOL! I remember also before when I was working, the President of the school will pass a Memo to all guards not to allow anyone to leave the campus and I don't remember they are serving any free food to the students and teachers and they are implementing huge fines too just to force these people to be in various and educational activities they prepared just for these students, I do know...when I was student, I don't attend activities for attendance really, I always want to be part and to learn from it! ANyway, I guess this is the trend now and wish next time in your university, they will only serve food to people who religiously attended and supported any activities! Bad but fair for me!

The activity was really nice and I wonder why most of my co-teachers and other co-employees left the auditorium and came back only during the snacks and lunch. Oh well, free food perhaps is better than free learning. Thanks for the greeting!

wowww... that is really amazing... i never do that... if i have to attend an activity, i will attend it properly and not just for the sake of a free food... i will be terribly ashamed of myself if i do that... may be next time they have to put a security guard to make sure that nobody leaves the auditorium and just taking advantage of the free food service... take care and have a nice day...

That is like a common problem in most schools... i thought in three different schools... but the attitude of the teachers and staff are the same... and i wonder how these people are able to teach moral values to students... well i am just glad i do not have to put up with that anymore... since it has been almost two years since i stopped teaching... I hope when i come back to the teaching profession... there is already a significant change in the attitude of teachers...

It's actually funny how these teachers require their students to be present in the activities they organize for them and reprimand those who do not attend or those who sign-up during the registration but escape during the actual activity. I wonder how their students would react when they find out that their teachers are worse.

dolce vita that is pretty odd, you would think if they came for anythingat all it would be the activity that was made just for the employees, by coming for only the food they are sort of thumbing their noses at the generosity of the administrators and thats not very polite, its downright insulting. If they all had stayed for the activity I could understand but only staying long enough to pork up is not so nice to my way of thinking.I would be embarrassed if I had done something like that and not stayed for the activity. lol lol lol.

Hello Dolce, Happy Birthday! I wish you all the best always! Well I believe that these people are just getting used to the idea of thickening their faces and be opportunists in this world. They could have at least pretended to be participants in the affair if only they want the food-giving part. Where's the party Dolce? Hehehe!

Hi there my friend... Thanks for the greeting! It would have been more polite for them to have attended the activity for at least half day... Then they could eat all they want. lol!

Hi dolce_vita78, Happy Birtday!!!! I hope you had a nice Birthday. I must say by what you are telling me, those people are just terrible, do they think its charity day? I bet they won't have to spend money on buying their dinner at all when they go home, they will be too full up to eat their own home cooked food. Greedy so and sos' Tamara

Thanks Tamara! I actually saw some of them had doggy bags after the afternoon snacks were served. I guess they didn't have to worry about dinner.

I would have been insulted if I were in the shoes of the people who organized the event. I do not know why people would act that way. Worst, they are even teachers. Educators should serve as an example. I wonder how their students would react if they saw their teachers behaving that way. I would probably understand why people wouldn't attend a certain activity and wouldn't see them around. But I don't think it is acceptable not to see them in the activity but see them around during the break queuing up for food.

That is really bad, but you know it is what people do. If someone in our town was to set up something and invited people without the offer of food or drink no one would go. If they put on that there would be free snacks and drinks then it would probably be packed for the drinks and snacks then everyone would go home!

Hey dolce! Well Happy Birthday! I hope you enjoy your birthday and day off to celebrate! When are you going on your little vacation with your boyfriend? Now that you have your vacation I guess you will be going soon! I am so glad that you finally have some time off for yourself! I know that you work really hard! That story was funny! You know how people are when there's free food! It always seems to attract people from out of no where! No one seems to be to proud when they are giving it away for free! I do hope that you have had a very enjoyable birthday and many many more joyous ones to come! I wish you the very best of everything! Your friend, Opal
