Not because I have taken any oath to keep quite but because I have a throat infection and cannot speak at all. All I can do is whisper. Had a viral flu with a cough. Now it has gone worse and am hardly able to whisper which is also a strain for me. Now it is nearly 14 hours since I last spoke to anyone. Have any of you experienced this??? How does it feel when you are not able to talk to anyone?? I am feeling terrible.

Well, Im not one who talks much but it does take a strain on anyone if we only get to talk to the tv but at least myLot has real people in it to talk to, even if the messages wouldnt be in real time. Still a great place to spend time in especially when there is no one else to talk to in real life. I can go for hours on end without talking and thats even if I have my voice. Just not one to talk a lot.
I do hope you get well soon. Thank you for being with us here in myLot.^_^

I too dont like to talk the whole day but then not being able to talk at all is very bad. And then the pain due to constant coughing is draining me. I sometimes can be silent for a whole day but my work involves talking on phone and straining my vocal chords to whisper on the phone is tiring me. Thanks a lot for your concern and best wishes. Happy posting.

I bang the table at home if my kids are in another room and I want to call them. Then use the sign language to talk to them. Or else write on a notepad. But it is difficult attending phone calls. And the pain is very very bad. Hope I get well soon. Thanks a lot for the concern.

I am sorry to hear that you are not feeling well. I know how you feel because I get tonsilitis and throat infections and I know how that is. I hate not being able to speak. The worst thing you could do is try to talk. You will lose your voice for longer if you do.
I hope you feel better soon.

I also experience it, my nerves in the throat were so tensed that my voice was so harsh, it can hardly be heard. I just enjoyed making sign language! Try to massage your neck, to loosen the tightend nerves and muscles!

My wife has had that happen to her several times. It kills her because she loves to talk almost non-stop. And, I'm not being mean or sarcastic - she has told me that it drives her crazy because it is so hard for her to be quiet.
I am sorry you are sick and I hope you get better soon. The best thing for you right now is rest and hot tea with honey in it. Whatever you do, don't talk becuause it will strain your throat even further.

I don't have this problemnow, butI have had it a few times. It was frustrating. My daughter had imular problem. She could not speak because of a chemical spill at work. I don't remember what it was just the effect it had one her. For around 3 or 4 months she could not talk. She had to use a notebook and pen to "talk" to everyone and alot of hand motions.
They weren't sure if she would get her speah back so we all were looking into learning sign language. Actually she and I use what we knew already.
That was very scary for her and me not knowing if my daughter would get to speak again. I worried so much for her.
Being sick with a cold, flu, or any such ailment that you know you'll get to talk soon or later is not a scary as not knowing if you'll ever get to talk again. I can handle these times ore knowing what my daughter went through and for how long.
I hope you get to feeling much better and will be able to talk soon. Gargle with warm salt water, it will help.

It is really sad to know that you cannot speak and vent out your feeling through verbal exchange. Hopefully, your infection will cure soon. Had I been in your situation, I would have also felt very pathetic and bad. It had happened with me in the past and taking rest was the best option to restore the situation and I did exactly that.

Hi Mayka, when I read the discussion topic I guessed, this is the problem because I am just recovering from the same. It is really a terrible situation especially around with kids. Need extra energy to make some voice but there is no use only some whispers comes out. Gargling with salt water (little hot) will give some relief. Get well soon.

Thank you very much Mayka.
How are you now? Still have problem, if yes, you have to consult a good doctor and take proper treatment. Home remedies may not be sufficient in long run. Take care.
Wish you and your family, A Very Happy and Prosperous Deepawali.

Thanks a lot for your wishes. Hope you have had a nice Diwali.
My throat is still very bad inspite of all the medications given by the Doctor. I think it is a viral infection here because many people in this city seem to be suffering from this kind of cough. I am taking both doctors medicines as well as trying home remedies.

Not talking because you want to be quite is cool. But not being able to talk because you are sick is very very troublesome. And I am not saving energy because I am coughing a lot and that requires more energy than talking. Am still feeling quite sick and hope I get well soon.

When I get that at first is kind of a releif not to have to talk, but then it becomes a real pain in the back side. not just the throat. It doesn't take very long before people just ignore you when you can't talk. Take Vit C and drink lot's of tea. Get Well Soon

You can help yourself with simple drink.
Mix 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon of honey, a pinch of cayenne pepper and 2 teaspoons of lemon juice in 1 cup of hot water and stir well. Drink this up to 4 cups a day for sore throat relief.
Stay in worm place for next 3 days.
Hope you can feel better in day or two.

Hi Maru, I have been trying all sorts of antibiotics and home medicines but now it is more than 40 hours and I just cannot speak. Due to the cough the pain in the chest and throat is terrible. And I cannot take leave from office just now and rest. I have tried ginger and honey yesterday and will be having it today too. Lets see if it works.

I am okay if I have to be quite for a day or two. I am not too fond of talking. But today is the fourth day that I am not able to talk and this silence is killing me. I am finding it difficult to manage my job because I have to talk on the phone to people. I am managing with a sign language or making notes on a notepad with people around me. But how do I manage the phone? Am trying to rest as much as possible and just hoping I get well soon.

There are times when I go 14 16 hours without talking to anyone as there is no one there to talk to and it would seem strange to admit that in that time I openly spoke, though talking to yourself may not count.
As far as not being able to speak from pain or losing your voice, I think I would try to preoccupy my mind with doing things that do not require spoken communication with my partner.

Staying quite because you have no one to talk to or do not want to talk to anyone is okay. But when your job involves talking to people and you are not able to speak then it becomes difficult to communicate. And the worst thing is whispering on the phone. I had a difficult two week of silence and am now just feeling a bit better.
