I have never used cds or dvds to carry out my backups. I bought an external hard drive that looks like one of those small whisky flasks! Anyway, it's capacity is 250GB which is pretty good, it's suitable for all of my backup needs! I think it's better to have an external hard drive unless you want to back up the whole of the world wide web! I guess there's the tendency to lose track of your backups if you have so many cds as well as dvds. Good luck. Andrew

I had a computer since 1995 and i have about 1389 of cd's of which 200 is software and the rest of them are for music, i have 812 dvd's and all are moveis, so in total i have 2201 cd's in my home right now but most of them have cratches and are unusable, but i'm keeping them too as my collection of cd's

My question is to you, Why do you still use a CD or DVD when there are high speed protable disks available in market????
I have a 500 gb SATA internal HDD. For backup I use a other portable 500 gb HDD. These are high speed portable disks & can be connected via USB. No problem of internal connection.

Hi there, i don't know what you are referring to exactly but i will answer both of the things that i think you are talking about:
1) I used hundreds of CD's until now, and i think hundreds of DVD's as well as i have a computer since 1997 (or 1996)
2) I have used many cd's and fewer dvd's to backup my data on them, and only in cases of extreme force - like a bad windows failure, when i had to reinstall the system all over again.
