How many of you live away from your native place?

There's no love like a mother's love and there's no land like motherland. Yet many of us have to leave our home for career. Do you live away from your homeland? Do you wish to go back for good? ~ Take me home.........Country roads....take me home .... Or, you want to live where you are now? What are the things that you miss the most?

“The things which the child loves remain in the domain of the heart until old age. The most beautiful thing in life is that our souls remaining over the places where we once enjoyed ourselves”

I'm originally from the UK and moved to the United States with my Mother when I was 12; she met her now-husband on the internet and here we are! We came here 6.6.2000, thus been here about 8 1/2 years so far. I really do love it here in America... I miss my family of course, and I am very proud of my nationality & where I come from, but I definitely want to continue living in America. My Mom & I are now permanent residents, & as soon as I'm eligible for citizenship I am jumping on it =] I'd really like to go back and visit one day, especially since I've forgotten what it's like... coming here at the age of 12 & turning 21 this year, I'm very much Americanized... I'm very much American, I just happen to be a British national. But overall, as I said, I love America. It rocks =]

Egypt must be very different from Philippines in climate, culture etc. It needs a strong determination to make a home away from home.

I actually live now 8 miles from where I was born and raised. We've lived in this house for 35 years. We have always lived in this part of the country. My husband is also 8 miles from where he grew up. We went to the same schools together. Both our families remained in the St. Louis, Mo vicinity. We each have a brother who lives about 15 minutes from our house. It's really all I've ever known. We do have one daughter who lives about 1,200 miles from us. Wish it was different and she lived here but her husband's career took them a long distance from home.

My husband was offered a better position in another state when I was pregnant with the 2nd baby. He refused and we stayed here. Since that time, he opened his own business and has been successful right here about 3 miles from our house. It all worked out very well. We were able to be with our aging parents until they all passed away.

Its a great thing carolbee. Not many people have choices. But then luck and opportunity favours the bravest, as in your case too.

You have lived near your roots with family members living nearby. carolbee you are one the fortunate ones. But for a better career many people have to live a long distance from home.

I think I may be a poster boy for living away form home cases! lol. I am currently in the Middle East and have been here for a year. Before this I lived and worked in India for a year; and before this I lived and worked throughout South East Asia spending most of my time in Manila, Philiipines. After this year I am expecting to be living and working in the USA. I am originally from Australia though so have been away from home for over three years now. I don't get too homesick a lot of the time but I do miss the beach, the food and the organized structure of my home country. I miss the weather sometimes too.

Rightly said James, you are a perfect example. So many countries, so many changes. A forced gypsy? Australian.......hmmmm no wonder we always see James' sunny side up.

I am also away from my hometown. That's about eight to ten hour away for a bus ride. I am now helping my father to finance my siblings. I am also planning to save and invest/have a business in my hometown afterwards. I'm not sure when but I am confident it can come true. But first I want the two siblings next to me finish their studies first.

My homeland is Germany. I lived in america 24 years already.I do miss germany very much, all my family is there. They come visit every other year and we talk on the phone once a week. I like to go home and visit, but i'm scared of flying. I'm sure i'll stay here for the rest of my life. My mom says things have changed back home and it's hard to get work.

Your family is in Germany and you can not meet them because you are scared of flying. There must be some other way to reach home. Cruise and then by train or road ??
