There is an old man called Li Rui Ran. He is already 86 years old. He has taken photos for 14 years. He took photos to record the development of our city. He keeps on doing it although he is so old. He even doesn't have enough money to print all of the films. He took photos for the old buildings which will be removed by the new buildings and constructions. As he said, he needs to photograph it. As the old constructions will be gone and it will never come back again.
Now he has his photo exhibition and I look forward to seeing it. All of these are old memories and I am glad that he recorded all of the changes. Many people are impressed by this old man's spirit and we all appreciate his efforts. Due to him, we are able to see what our city was. It reminds me of many past memories.

I never knew you were a history buff.
So, when will his exhibition be up?
Is it local to your state or province only? Or will the show be touring the country?
It is impressive that an old man of 86 still has a passion for something. In this case, photography.
Is he still using the old school SLRs?

It would be interesting to be able to view his works.
So, how far back does his photos show?
Which are some of the buildings he featured?
I wonder if his works will go to any museum or not. It would be good if they can be archived in the museum for records.

These old photos are concerned about the old buildings in Guangzhou in the past 14 years. Perhaps this exhibition will last two weeks. I think he uses the normal cameras to take photos rather than digital one. As he is too old to use so new stuff. It's hard to believe he has two teeth only but he still has the passion.

I have read the news too, and it's amazing. He must have very strong determination to do that. Besides, I think he must have missed the old look of the city a lot. What he did is very useful to keep some good old memories for the people. I think many people will be grateful to him for doing this. Since he run out of money, why don't the people donate some money to him, so that he could develope the remaining photos?

I am relieved to know that. I wish I could visit and take a look in the exhibition as well. It will be very impressive. But unfortunately, I am not familiar with all those buildings, because I have not been there. But what amaze me is the strong will of that old man, to accomplish such a laborious task.

Hi youless, I have learned from the tv broadcast about impressive old photographers who like to take photos of those ancient historical buildings like temples, bridges, towns or villages which are going to be developed. The professionals will take down the images of all the precious scene of activities the people there before they move away and the scene vanished as well.
I appreciate their spirit of appreciation of antique heritages. They have done a great piece of work to let the new generation could be able to learn the disappeared ancient heritages from the photograph.
I’m not sure whether Li is among one of them. The documentary I had watched earlier were taking place at San Xia in the three Yangze River gorges before it was immersed in the bottom of the river.
Here I would like to pay my greatest respect to Li who has sacrificed his precious lifetime, money and effort to save the great magnificent scene which otherwise would have been buried in the merciless history.
posting and have a great day.

I am glad that Mr.Li isn't the only one who took photos for the old buildings. All of these people are doing quite a wonderful job. Actually Mr.Li has only two teeth right now as he's already 86 years old. I am so moved by his spirit.

It's a shame isn't it that we don't have any memories of where we live and how rapidly areas change, buildings get knocked down, new developments, new houses popping up faster than you can count to ten, yet we never stop and realize how it looked decades ago! I love looking at photos at how my area has changed over the years, although quite frightening because gone are the little butcher shops, the greengrocers where we used to buy all our fruit, because of the big supermarkets swallowing them up. Old memories should be treasured, trouble is there aren't many people around who keep photos of how it used to be.

I have just seen a power point presentation of how my country looked liked 100 years ago. It is amazing to be able to illustrate how life was several years ago, how the buildings look like, what type of clothes the old timers used to wear etc.© ronaldinu 2008

Oh my... there is an old man who does just that here in my area... but he takes photos of different places... even the capital city... and he posts them in his blog... i met him when i was working as real estate agent for a certain subdivision... and he is such a kind gentleman... we still keep in touch from time to time... and i even urged him to create a book where he can put all his photos there...

Hello, Youless!
That's impressive! I think it is a lot of work put in so many years, and now this old man is being recognized by everybody. People go with the flow: the city starts to develop and so do them, but nobody remembers to take memories from the past. Soon, all that the city was one day will be only in their heads, and they will tell the story to their children making some kind of tale. This old man was smart, though: he pictured everything.
He can sell his pictures and he will earn a lot of money to keep doing what he has done for so long.
Respectfully,
Munhozmib.
