Living in a small island, learning how to swim was natural as drinking water. I learned how to swim around six or seven when I was a young child. My uncle who is a fishermen taught me how to swim. I do think that it is essential to learn how to swim. Do you know how to swim? © ronaldinu 2008

I can make my way through the water. But, I have never been a strong swimmer! Always felt like I was getting no where fast! Frustrating.

I don't know how to swim.
I grew up in the country side and my village is crossed by a river about 40 cm deep, so I didn't have the best conditions to learn.
I've never went to the seaside in vacation and I don't go to swimming pools either. I consider I have to learn first not make a fool of myself by going and trying to learn.
I don't think about learning how to swim because I don't have time for it nor the need.

I learned how to swim when I ws a child. We went to the river every weekend when I lived with my dad and was actually with him or any of his family. I think it's important to be able to swim. You never know when you'll actually have to.

Hi ronaldinu! Yes, I do know how to swim. I learned when
I went to day camp when I was 10 years old. I don't think
that I really "learned". I think that I also kind of
already "knew". It was very natural for me. I loved the
water from the minute I set foot in the pool. I was never
afraid and I swam under water right away. I still love to
swim and I still can swim very well and have no fear
except in the ocean. We have some beaches here where the
currents are extremely strong and I am not that confident
when trying to swim there. I don't trust the currents
and I am not strong enough to fight them so I stay away
from those areas.

Learning to swim was one of the best achievements I have done in my life, although I didn't learn till I was 18! I had a few bad incidents where I nearly drowned which put me off going into the water, but a good friend of mine at the time had the patience and commitment to teach me! Since then I have loved the water, and love swimming! Especially when I am on holiday in the pool, but I feel much safer in the pool than the ocean.

I do know how to swim. I remember my father trying to teach me to swim when we went camping. His idea of teaching was to take me out in the middle of the river and let go. Needless to say that did not work for me. I took swimming lessons at a regular pool and learned how to swim.

Yes, I learned how to swim at a very young age too. My elder brother-in-law taught me as he was a swimming coach and was in the Navy. It is excellent exercise and I am very grateful that he persuaded me to learn to swim, as I wasn't taking much interest in it at the time.

Yes I know swimming. In my childhood we used to take bath in the river or pond nearby our house. It had given a chance to learn swimming in the childhood. Knowing swimming is very necessary to all people. If you try to learn in childhood it will be very easy. I know all the people don't get the chances to learn swimming especially if they were living in city. Now schools are started to teach swimming within the school premises. I think it is a welcome step.

Hi,
I don't know how to swim.
However, I have tried learning how to swim before but I have not mastered swimming as I don't dare to immerse myself in water.
I would like to learn again if I have the chance.

I learned how to swim as a child, probably around age 6 though I took lessons until I was 10 or so. I stopped the lessons when my little sister passed me--I couldn't dive so they wouldn't let me advance any further. Which was a shame because I actually was a decent swimmer. I think I still am, though.
I really do think it's important that everyone learn to swim. It is a fun activity, but also it can save your life if you find yourself in water unexpectedly. I think about those people whose plane crashed in the river in New York, they all lived, but could you imagine surviving something like that, only to fall in the water and drown? Not to mention the more likely scenario of a child falling into a pool. Children can learn to float and keep their heads above water at a very young age, so it is a good idea for them to learn as soon as they are capable.

I am not a very good swimmer but at least I am capable enough to explore the deeper parts of the pool, lake or sea.
I learned how to swim when I was seven with my childhood friends. I improved my swimming when I went to college for our school is adjacent to a sea. The beach became my favorite playground and my friends and me never miss a week without dipping in the sea.

I've known how to swim my entire life! I don't even remember when or how I learned. It is great exercise and so relaxing. My favorite vacations involve going somewhere that I can swim. Both my children had swimming lessons very early on and were in the water by 6 months. I am totally not athletic and hate any kind of group exercise, but swimming is one of the greatest things in my life.

I learned to swim when I was three and as i got older i became better. I joined the swim team and the diving team. I think that people should learn to swim because it is fun and you never know what will happen in the future. My mom and brother are both strong swimmers ,but my father has never learned how to swim and i think he misses out on a lot of things. When we go to White Water Bay he is terrifed of the lazy river and he is 6'2' so their is no reason to be scared. So i think that kids should learn to swim at young ages.
