i have this. last night, a landlady was scolding a friend of mine for the increased of payment for the electricity bill. she blamed the overtime use of laptop and the no declaration of my friends friend about their laptop and other electric appliances. well, she has reasons why she gets mad. the increase was up by five hundred. and now, i think there would be a limitation in going to my friend's boarding house. for one reason, i went there to be connected to wi-fi and then to have a free access to the internet. but as of now, i gues si have to limit it.. i will save electricity for now. how about you, do you care for electricity?.. how?

I save electricity by, turning off appliances, not leaving them on standby. Standby uses almost as much power as using them. Turn off lights if you're not in the room. Who is the light for then? Defrost your fridge regularly, an iced up fridge pulls more power. Big TV's and computer screens pull max power too, and if you have hotwater systems and you're going away, turn it off.

Yes we need to save electricity now a days as the rate of electricity is getting higher and higher. If we will not save on electricity we will loose a lot of money which we can spend on food instead.
To save electricity, we make sure that the tv and electric fans are turn off and pulled out from the outlet when not in use. Same goes with our home theater.
We also avoid using multiple appliances at a time.

I do not just save electricity because of the price but also because of the environment. During the day I do not turn on any lights unless I need look into something that has very little room to look into without light. At night I turn off the lights as I go from room to room if I can help it, and then I turn off all lights before going to bed.

It is sad that this has happen but I more believe that the landlord is upset about the dishonesty. Sometimes it takes things like these to happen so that we take what others have been saying more seriously. Sorry that you will no longer have access to free internet access.

I never used to care for the amount of electricity I used until I saw a program on TV about the harmful effects it is having on our environment. Now I only turn lights on if I really need to and always have my appliances like stereo and tv turned off standby when I'm not using them.
Now that I'm living back at my parents' house I am amazed at how much power they use. Especially my younger siblings. I am constantly having to turn off lights. I will be interested in seeing how much my parents will save on their electricity bill now that I have moved in.

I always try my best to save electricity, mainly for the environment but i too have seen a huge increase in bills. Whenever a room is unoccupied, i will turn the light off / same with appliances (except for the fridge/freezer of course) though some of my family have a bad habit of leaving things on- so i'm always running about turning things off.

I think everybody is conserving electricity not just because the price nowadays of electricity is so high but also just to help or just doing or share of protecting our environment and helping our government in augmenting the needs of electricity .

We do alot of things to try to save. We've purchased the flourescent bulbs to replace regular light bulbs. We try to unplug whatever appliances are not in use because they all still use up SOME electricity if they are plugged in. We try to do a shut down on computers when not in use rather than letting them sit there. We've turned our a/c up a degree and used ceiling fans more as they are more energy efficient.

Yes, I try and save electricity as much as possible now. Firstly I have replaced all my light bulbs with those energy efficient bulbs, they are pretty bright. I used to keep my electrical items on standby like the television and so forth but now I turn these off completely. I avoid using lights in the evening if I don't need them. I watch the television in the dark. I don't have the lights on in the evening unless I'm reading or something. I leave my reading to the day time now though. I used to be on credit as regards my electricity but now, I have opted for the prepayment meter! I now know what I'm using exactly each month and I can budget accordingly. I don't think your extra electricity usage is due to the laptop. Computers use very little electricity! Computers use Direct Current as opposed to Alternating Current which arrives at your home from the power station. Electricity arrives at your home as Alternating Current and your computer's power supply transforms this Alternating Current to Direct Current and less power is being used. This is one thing I know about computers. Good luck. Andrew

Yes, I do. My father is such an electricity saver and I find it freaky sometimes. He never gets tired of reminding us to turn off the lights when not in use. Sometimes, I get the habit of turning off the lights when he gets near me, that I don't have to hear him say those words again.
I think it is alright and it is something that I learned from him. Not just saving electricity, but also water and gas (LPG or gasoline). It is sometimes annoying and I even thought he is OC, . But I know he is just concerned on how much we pay each month. For me, it is a sense of responsibility - something that I will also do when I become the head of the family. Like father, like daughter.

I have been trying and trying to cut my electric bill but it never seens to go lower. We don't leave lights on, I use flourescent and compact flourescent bulbs where ever I can throughout the house, the a/c is turned up to 76 and we use tower fans as we have no ceiling fans. The house is well insulated and doors and windows are kept closed. We live in a subtropical climate and need the a/c almost year round, not to mention the fact that it is no longer safe to leave windows open. I use my toaster oven or microwave instead of the oven when I can. I usually leave my computer on as it powers down after a few minutes. Does anyone know if computers use that much energy?

oh yes... i do... and the very minimum step that i can do in my house is to switch off all the appliances and lights when i do not use them... plug them off from the power sockets and switch the power completely off... it really makes a difference in my bill when i do that... besides the money part, we also need to save electricity to save our planet... the earth is getting warmer by each day and we have to play our part in conserving this earth for our next generations... as for the landlord, no wonder she is angry because the bill increased by $500... that is a lot of money... you really do need to save electricity... take care and have a nice day...

I think that if I were thr landlady I would upset at an increase of $500 too. vedio games player do run up the elecricity so one needs to limit them. Turning off and unpluging appliances that are not being used cuts the use if electrity too. Another way to cut the bill is to use clocks that run on batteries. I have 5 clocks and they all use batteries. I only have to change the batteries once a year.

500 increase of electric bill is very high. I save electricity by ironing my clothes all in one time, sometimes I dont even iron my other clothes. We have free electric bill with the amount of 666.66 per month with free water also. Its very cheap.

Turn off the light if you're not using the room. Switch off the computer when you go to bed. Remember to switch off appliances when you leave the house. Don't leave the tv on in the background if nobody's using it.. etc.

Yes I do. it is always important to save energy. i feel bad paying too much for it.
how do i save? in the morning, i open all the windows or blinds so i dont have to turn the light switch on. the sun will be enough. the aircon/heater will be set to automatic so if the room gets colder or warmer it stops automatically.

Yes, i do care for electricity since the costs increases and i guess in this way i lessen the burden of my parents in paying the electric bills. For instance, i do not use the television along with the computer as it has the biggest consumption on our bills. I do switch off appliances and lights when they're not in use. We also use alternatives. For instance, we only use bulbs that are energy-saving and whatnot. :)
