sometimes my husband think of not going to work .. ...especially if he had something to do at home important .. now that we have some minor alterations and he thinks he is very much needed...but unluckily this situation wont work since its a waste of a day salary or even a leave of absence since he is thinking of retiring soon and he want to accumulate more benefits..since he is entitle of 15 days with pay every year of leave of absence and if not exhausted(he had accumulated atleast 400 days since 1980 and of course it will be multiplied by 2000php per day) till his retirement time then it will be converted to cash and given to him..it is how it works here in our country..what about you guys do you feel the urge to be absent just to do something at home or just do important matters to be taken care of which you think cant wait till weekend? or just be absent since its your birthdays/anniversaries or whatever family holidays...or maybe just being lazy to go to work??

I guess at times in our working years we tend to feel lazy in going to work. I think its a natural feeling especially when work tends to become monotonous and boring. In my work we are given 15 days and after accumulating 30 day you are forced to take the excess of it. We call it forced leaves so that office would not be able to accumulate too much of it already. What we could accumulate instead is the sick leaves since it could not be forced on us that we have sick leaves on our term.

Oh yes my friend, I also don't go to work when there are important matters to take care of. I also don't feel like working on my birthday, and sometimes anniversaries. It doesn't mean that I feel lazy that day but I think it is fine that we also have what they call, special leave of absence. There are also a five-day forced leave that if not used will automatically deducted from the leave credits that we earned, so it would be better to make use of it that waste it for nothing...

Well for some time now I sometimes take a day off. I do it because weekends are actually the days of the week I work more. All the house chores to be done, everyone home - which means cooking all meals - always those things we didn't have a chance to do during the week to do during the weekend.
WHen I am in need of rest. And I mean rest, nobody home, cooking if I feel like or not if I don't, just relax alone without having to do this and that... then I take a day off.
It's the only way.

I would not miss work in that way. If I was an employer I would not expect my workers to behave like that!

I have days when I can't bear to go to work. Even know when i work online. I had severe depression and layed in bed and that was my life. But, I know how getting involved with something at home and wanting to get it done can consume a person. That is what writing does to me. Perhaps your husband is getting ansy to quit and get going on his retirement.

Hi, yes i do. Actually, right at this moment i am fighting the urge not to go to work. I just don't feel like working it was a very busy weekend for me and i still feel so tired. Lucky for your hubby, that he has so many accumulated leave credits. Me, i almost have exhausted all my leave credits when my mother got sick. But i still take on a leave of absence if i really need to do something in the house or whenever we have a family holiday. I know, i need those leave credits for my retirement too, but sometimes the urge to be absent and relax is just too strong. I love my work but i just couldn't help it sometimes that i get stressed out then i take a break and take a leave.

i never do that... unless if i am really really sick, i never want to be absent from my workplace... even if it is my b'day, wedding anniversary or whatever it is, my work is more important because i am still young and i have to save money to be able to enjoy myself when i get older later... so hard work first and enjoy later for me... take care and have a nice day...

I cannot be absent from my work whenever I feel the need to since I am a teacher and my students will suffer. I only take sick leave when I am really sick and I cannot do otherwise. However I am entitled to 28 hours special leave which I usually take to attend parents day at my son's school or other activities which I cannot refuse to attend during my normal day of work. I am entitled to 30 days paid sick leave but I do try to keep them to a minimum. Usually I don't take more than 4 or 5 days a year. © ronaldinu 2008

I always have alot to do at home and would love to have a couple of days off just to finish up some projects.....of course I don't stay home. I go because I have this work ethic that says it would be better to go! Unless of course I am sick which rarely happens. Yesterday it snowed.....and I love it when we have a snow day once in a while....I get tons done!

I feel the same way and also obliged sometimes. There are certain things that we have to do and have to sacrifice a day in the office.
In our company, leaves are not convertible to cash so we are obliged to use em
take care.

Well good for your husband that his unused leaves could be monetized. As for me I did take leaves especially if I have something very important to do. IN our company the leaves can't be monetized (one of the reasons why I'm searching for a new and better job)However in your case I suggest that if he needs to be absent make sure that it is really very important so that the leave won't be wasted.
