Please pass this on to all whom you know.
There is a new warning put out by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency....
you can verify this at
http://www.snopes. com/food/ warnings/ coins.asp
Sherwood brand Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate coins are being recalled because they contain Melamine, the ingredient in milk product that has caused many infant deaths in China. These candies are sold at Costco, as well as many bulk and dollar stores. Please make sure to check your child's Halloween candy and DO NOT LET THEM EAT THE PIRATE COINS (you know the ones wrapped in the shiny gold foil) and please let other parents know about this!

That is really bad that these Chinese made products are mostly having this substance. Now I know why they are priced cheaply because they made the products unhealthy too. Here in my country almost all of the China made products that contain milk has it that is why we are quite aware to look at the label where it came from and avoid those that are China made

If you read here you will see why they put that substance in the foods. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_baby_milk_scandal#Melamine
We need to ban all imports from China, throughout the world. Maybe then they will clean up their own house and stop this garbage.

only in Canada according to the company (the recall is from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency), and the recall says there's been no reported illness & the health risk is considered to be low.

Very true but any risk is still a risk and I always like to err on the side of caution, yes?

Thanks for the input. I always check my kids Halloween candy and even though they say just in Canada I will stay on the safe side of things and not let my kids have these anyways. I will throw out any of those that they happen to get. Have a safe and Happy Halloween.

Nowadays, in our area, many people just toss all candy from strangers and give the kids new stuff or just do not take them out and have a party instead. There are many churches by us that have Candy Carnivals where kids come, dressed up, and play games, get food and candy.
Others only take kids to houses of people they know. I only give out coins. I even clean them first in the sink with a little bleach so little hands can reach into the bowl and grab a handful of pennies with some nickels thrown in.
Other years I have done small toys that you buy for party favors. We do not eat sugar in our house or candy made with it so I will not give it out. Since you cannot give out fresh fruit anymore, the coins and toys are a better option.

It is sad to hear that big companies have used of these type of products that can be a health hazard to children and adults alike. I wish that big companies stop being greedy and do take the interest of their customers at heart. © ronaldinu 2008
