Time for a Vacation

As many of you know, I really enjoy my job. The people who are my clients are very special to me. Taking time off from work isn't easy for me because I feel as if I am letting my clients down. But, life is stressful and I had realized that I really needed some down time.
A friend of mine who is from Denmark is in town this week and we always get together when she is here. I decided it was an opportune time for me to take a few days off. We are going to lunch tomorrow and then perhaps to visit one of my clients. I told her that I would see if she would like to meet her. This client is in her 80's and is a delightful woman. She has ALS and is a Hospice patient. Her whit, charm and sense of humor is wonderful. How can I not bring my friend to meet her?
For the last week or more, I have found my life seemingly coming loose at the seams. I cannot talk, walk or do basic tasks without fumbling. I went shopping with my sister and I asked her to step aside so I could get a "gallon" of eggs. Yup, I am fried. You know when you can't even talk straight it is time to relax a bit.
I am only taking 2 of my vacation days because I have Friday and the weekend off. That will be 5 days off. The grand plan is to sleep-in and sit around in the morning in my jammies while I sip coffee and work on my afghan or read a book.
Time for me......It's about time!

It's good for you that you are having a time off to relax. Working every day makes us exhausted. The pressure of workplace is not the same if compared to the environment at home, even though there are still chores to be done around the house. Reading a good book is a very good idea and it will make you feel occupied even though you are relaxing on your bed with your jammies on. And you will enjoy the privacy you can get during these 5 days.
I hope you will enjoy your holiday to the maximum and able to go back to work in a new spirit. From your writing I think you are enjoying your work and that you have the passion in your job. Are you a doctor? Just curious, though. I wish I have the life like yours, full of meaningful activities. Helping others in need and having a close connection with your clients.
Yeah, this is indeed your time of privacy and for a complete break. Have a nice vacation!

When you give your all to a job such as yours which is physical and mental and spiritual, it's only natural to need some time to re-coop. Your plan sounds marvellous and you will be back at work much better to face the demands on you. Peace be with you my friend.

I hope this is the best vacation you've ever had. That's pretty exciting to be seeing a friend all the way from Denmark! I know what impact clients can have on you as I worked with young adults suffering mental illness and I know what it's like to feel attatched. It does sound that you are no doubt ready for your vacation based on what you said about fumbling and a gallon of eggs? Better rest up better than getting burnt out and end up sick. That would be harder on the clients than you just having a rest. Put your feet up my dear friend.

I have spent most of the time with my feet up and reading a book. We did go shopping and out to lunch. But, came back to my house and visited. I have been making an afghan and got quite a few squared finished. It was a very relaxing time. Tomorrow is my last day. I plan on milking it.

Hello dear friend. Like you, when I have been very busy with my work, I am always looking forward to having a vacation or some days off. We always work for almost fortnight before we can have a four-day rest. I feel very tired from working so many days straight and it is luxury to me to have a rest for some days.
I hope that you will enjoy your vacation as much as you can, friend.

Good for you. I thoroughly believe that we need to take time to unwind ourselves. I think vacations are very important and I make them a priority. We all need a break from our normal lives, vacations are the best. You have a wonderful vacation and get lots of relaxing in.

Definitely you need time for yourself. Take time just to be and relax. With stressful life we often miss time to take care of ourselves and to relax.
Reading is very rewarding.
What kind of afghan do you do? is it made of wool?

Have a great vacation! Sounds like you need more than 5 days off, but I hope this helps. Take care, rest and relax like you plan. Don't forget to have fun, too.

I used to be an active member of a forum where I met a woman that sounds just like you. You sound like a very nice person and that you still care about your clients is more then I could say for even myself as I know that when I was employed I only made friends with a few of the people I called "regulars."
Have fun on your mini vacation, take a breather and just have fun!

I worked so hard for so long that I feel perpetually fried. I have the opportunity to work just part time for now, and when I try to take any more, I turn into jello. I am working about twenty hours a week. I have two days off mid week every week, and alternate Saturdays. I do work extra Saturdays some months. I hope you enjoy your days off. If you spend a lot of time caregiving, you do need to take the time off. I will speak to the fact that it feels really good.
