why do we use heart as a symbol of love?

I'll tell you about my openion:- Physically Heart is the most important part of our bodies, if to be in love with someone you'll notice changes in your behaviours each time talking to that person or just thinking about, changes in your heart performance like change in blood flow..... Mentally Every time to be with that person you'll feel peace and calm, your heart will say to yourself that you should care for her and try to make her happy all the time. Sometimes love is over our thoughts and our logic so if to love with your brain you can't reach to that stage I'm talkin about.

maybe because if we are inlove our heart beat faster. if we see the person that we are really attracted its beats faster too. so maybe thats why heart is the symbol of love.

Well, I think why it was made a symbol of love is when you feel in love, you'd feel that heavy (in a good way) sensation on your chest. When you think about that person, when you are with that person, you'll feel that near your heart. You feel warm and calm. The heart also supplies blood and makes the rest of the body work and complete. Kinda makes the saying "you complete me" a bit appropriate. Just sharin'. Take care.

wow,that is a interesting discussion.but i also don`t know why people say "heart",i think we should say "i love you with all my brain",this will be better,because brain is a very important part for everyone,our minds come from our brain but heart,our heart only supplys our body with the blood,it can not give us ablity to think or to love or to do other things. but as we all know that our heart is red,the red represents the loyalty,when we say that we do something with all my heart,it means that we are loyal when we do these things.i think this mybe the reason that why people say i love you with all my heart but with all my brain,we want to show out loyalty to other people.

The brain is actually a hindrance when it comes to love, you need to have a certain amount of crazyness to be in love, if you were too logical and used your brain before making every move you wouldn't be able to be in love too long. On the other hand it is your heart that beats harder when you are in love, when your loved one does something scary it is your heart that skips a beat. Whatever organ you choose I think you need to have balls of steel to be in love in the first place . Too bad we can't use that as a symbol of love

love is obviously a feeling and the heart is associated with all things "feely". although love is an emotion i think it is also a verb. though your heart dictates whom to love one can also choose whom to love thus makind it an action word. it is a choice made with the heart, mind and soul.it is a feeling best shown in actions. when you love someone you do not only love them with all your heart but with all your mind, soul and strength as well. :D

It can be predicted quite easily why people use heart as the symbol of love. It is because when we feel love, it comes from the heart and not from the kidney, stomach or whatsoever. Lol! Your discussion is funny but I do enjoy answering to it. But if you want to know in my country we use the liver as a symbol of love but the shape of it is still the same as the heart. Yeah, it is possible if we think about it. I love you with all my brain. That makes sense too. But maybe this is a stereotype thing, which everybody had accepted it without giving it a second thought. So everybody uses the symbol of a heart shape.

I think heart is the most appropriate. Because our heart has a heart shape and another reason is when we love, what we use is heart. Our emotions and the feelings we feel were dictated by our hearts. When we love it is our heart that is mainly involved. We can't love without heart. That's is my opinion. =)

I don't know why we use heart as a symbol of love in english. But in ancient china,people think the function of heart is thinking,just like what we think about brain today.So if we missing someone,the figure of that person will be appeared in our heart.If the figure of someone appeared in your heart again and again,maybe you have just failed in love with he or she. Besides,heart is a very important organ in one's body.We use it as a symbol of love means we think love is important.
