Well it was nice weather the other day sao I took the lawnmower out for hopefully the last mowing of the season. After being alomst totally done with the front yard the mower powered over me tearing my spine to shreds. Yes you read this right, it tore my spine to shreds. I am talking about the pile of leaves I had sitting in my flower bed out front. I ran the mower over them finally turning them into tiny pieces as a mulch. They were full leaves about 2 feet deep. Now just a small pilke of shredded leaves. This is to protect them from the harsh winds of winter coming soon. What's it like in your area weather wise today? Beautiful, sunny, and warm here in Minnesota for the end of October.

It is beautiful high 68dgr. and a nice breeze blowing. We have more pine needles than leaves here but lately i've just mowed over everything because i AM NOT going to rake yards (it takes weeks for my back to stop having spasms from mowing and raking is even worse) and when i put the boys out there to do it somehow i am the one that ends up doing it anyway(I'm not sure how this happens) so this year i decided to just mow it all!

My lawn mower is powered to move on its own.
So that helps a lot as there is no pushing/pulling etc.
I use a leaf blower for leaves.
I leave the raking to the wife and grandkids.

It is sunny and cool here in the south, for the past 3 days we have had frost late at night and in the early morning. The temperature is now 56 degrees and not expecting to get out of the 60's for the next couple of days. Some will say it is nice cool weather. Me I would say it is cold, I am sitting here now on the computer with an electric heater on. I don't want to turn the furnace on high.

56 is cold?
You would not survive in Minnesota come February then.
20 below zero with a foot of snow at times.
This is a major heat wave for us really this time of year.
Normal is like 45 or less right now I think in Minnesota.

You had me scared there for a minute! I had to read everything twice just to reassure myself you were ok! LOL! It's pretty warm out, but it's cloudy. It's supposed to rain tonight and through the weekend, so I think all of our little ghosts and goblins are going to get a bit wet tomorrow.

Your title got me thinking you hurt your spine LOL
It's was a little on the cool side this morning but the day has warmed up a bit to 52F - still cold for me LOL. Was nice to see some sun but the wind ruined it all. Very nippy!

I also do this to see if members really read the whole discussion.
I still get replies not along the true lines but geared at the titles a lot.

I've been diagnosed with DDD.
Degenerative Disc Disease.
My lower body gets numb like it has fallen asleep etc too often.
I can't sit real long at one time due to this.
I stretch my back and do other exercises to help this and ease some of the pain.
But I manage pretty well lately it sewems. Thanks.

first reaction..."omg the mower ran over him!?!" then i read it again lol!
does having shredded leaves over them really protect the plants? it rarely rains here and hasnt snowed in probably 80 years..and when it DID it melted before touching ground..shoot for all i know it's been 100 years since it snowed here lol!
today was average..about 93F, with a very light breeze and some scattered clouds. boy i would love to live in a place where you can actually see and feel all FOUR seasons!

Yes it helps a lot.
First off they decompose and add many nutrients to the soil.
Plus they also help hold and add mopisture during the cold winter months.

Your weather sounds good! Here in Missouri, it's in the 60's and will up close to 70 sometime today. It's gonna be nice for the next few days, then cold weather will be upon us. ugh. I am so not ready but guess I have no choice.

I get so many leaves, I wait until the last bit to cover my plants. I just got done raking up piles in the background and now I need to do the front and then bring it all down to the curb for pickup..We are having a great day to do this, uppers 50's and sunny, tomorrow it is supposed to be even warmer, so I hope to get this part done in the next day or two..

Hi Grandpa Bob oh my you really got me, saw that headline and I m goint oh poor Grandpa Bob whatever happened, then as I read I really got my chuckle for the morning. You sure got some good
mulch out of that pile of leaves, and your flower bed will take you come spring. Here its the same old same old. sunny and warm no breeze, some big fluffy white clouds and a blue sky, and very very dry.I think perhaps today we might get a bit cooler, have my fan on but really dont need it yet.

Well you know me, always trying to get members to smile and or laugh and forget about their worries if just for a few seconds. There is plenty more leaves for me to do something with soon as well. Now the trick is to get oiut and mix in the mulch I have ready. I hate that thought but.....

Not lately though.
Last year it was about 20 come Trick or Treat time.
Going to be nice this year.

Too cold for Ohio at this time of year. It's been going down to freezing at night. It's too early for that. But...it's better than in PA where they've already had 6 inches of snow.

Bob, I have to admit you definitely have a way with words!! I've learned not to pay attention to your attention getters - not to have a spasm when I see things like this title! Glad to know it was the leaves and not YOUR spine.
You should see our yard! It is once again yellow. My husband keeps our yards immaculate. He keeps our grass cut and does the edges religiously. And he keeps the leaves blown out of the yard and taken off or burned. But today, you'd never know he did it only a few days ago. Where do all those leaves come from? But, then, again,we still have lots of leaves on our trees, so it will probably be continuously filling up with leaves in the next couple months - just lots of work for him to do.

Well leaves do have a spine in a sense and they did get tore up badly.
I love doing the catchy titles here.
It draws more attention to the discuyssions and gathers more responses as well.
I love doing the landscaping jobs around my house as well.
My wife cuts the lawn like she is in a hurry and it never looks as good as when I mow it.
I guess I just have a certain look I like is all.
I have a red maple in my front yard.
Here's a shot of it prior to losing all it's leaves.
A beautiful site when the leaves are bright reddish orange like this.
The leaves are a normal green during summer and spring.

I have always heard it is better to mow or shred the leaves up during fall instead of letting them stay that way all winter. It also makes for a good fertilizer. What is a spine? Only spine I know are a part that is on the body or spiney catus.

The weather here is just beautiful. It got all the way to 80's yesterday
in kansas. I even went out for a walk after work you could'nt ask for a better day. The wind did not even blow as hard as it usually does. The weather here is suppose to be nice all weekend. I'll take this kind of weather any day.

We've been in the low 20's a few times already.
Plus only in the low to mid 40's for highs a few days as well.
The freezing cold and snow will be here soon enough.
I don't mid winter so much as opposed to the heat and humidity of summer.
I don't set out my house plants ever here.
Maybe for a rain bath once a summer is all.

Hi GRANDPA BOB,
I am glad you had a lovely day for the end of October, and doing your garden to protect the plants, as for us it was sunny this morning but towards the afternoon it became so very cold, it was dark and we also have rain, but I manged to put my lighted pumkins out side my front, its really looks spooky. Take care.
Tamara
