It just came into my mind that my desktop computer would be 5 years old on December. Whew! And it is still in good working condition. I haven't had any major upgrades or any major repairs needed. Although I'm a little left out on features and speed. I only have a 1.7ghz processor, 512mb ram and a 128mb video card. I guess I know how to maintain or take good care of it.
How about you? How old is your computer or laptop? Did you have any major problems or repairs to maintain it? How long do you plan on using it before replacing or upgrading?

My current computer only reaching 2 years now. That's the new one I bought because the one before it already broken. The specs is average only with Pentium IV 2.8GHz, 1GB RAM and 128 video card also. But the motherboard is quite low specs. So far I still cannot play games with high graphic requirement, but only enough for me to do some work, browse Internet and play my Football Manager game . I have a plan to upgrade, but need to do a major overhaul because now the motherboard type (socket 478) already obsolete and no more in the market. So, I have to build a completely new computer set if I want to upgrade .

Well my desktop is 8 years old. It was a Pentium 3 that time. But a few years ago the processor crashed. I had to buy new processor but by that time Intel already stopped manufacturing Pentium 3. So i had upgrade my whole motherboard and RAM to buy a Pentium 4 2.4 Ghz. Using it till now but i need a major upgrade. I want something really fast to play games. So i m just saving money to make my big game station.

My first computer broken down this september at the age of three. Now I have my present one, still a baby.
I hope I can hope my present one as long as possible, maybe more than ten years. But as computer changes so great these days, after ten years it will be totally out of date.

My good ole (by today's standards) windows xp is coming up on 5 year old too. I need a new laptop, so I hope the desktop will last a few more years. Can't afford to do both. I usually wait until they are useless before I move on. Or the operating system won't run anything I need for working anymore, that type of thing. I am lucky in that I have never had to replace anything major in my computer as well. My keyboard (another thing I have never had happen before) is acting up right now, so I may have to replace that sometime soon. I am using an old one from an older computer I still haven't recycled yet.

My computer is a few months old but i want to discuss to you about my old celeron computer which went on for more than 5 years without repair. It's a low end computer but it's very dependable. I guess it has served it's purpose well and it needs to retire. I miss my old computer. It's a Celeron computer 1.00GHz. All built'in so just imagine how it sucked when playing video games. Funny thing was it stopped working a few months after i cleaned it.

Mine still 11 years old.
Just look at the configuration, Intel Pentium II Mmx 299 MHz, 96mb ram, 2MB VC, 8.1 DirectX version, XP pro [5.1, build 2600] opr system.
The problem only happen when I visit some site with video feature. Its must "okay" because I rarely use one.
Here in mylot I have no problem, its work properly.

Mine is about the same as yours is. I have 5 gb of ram but need to upgrade. I bought some more but have yet to put them in. It still works quite well on Windows XP but sometimes when I try to do too many things at once it will lock up so I will add some RAM which should solve this problem. I try to keep the junk and viruses of it and have not had to format it at all.
My poor old laptop about the same vintage or a little newer finally quit a few months ago and I am saving up for a new one. I like the laptop and would like to set up a wireless connection to the internet.

5 gb of RAM and still need to upgrade?! Wah? I guess since you love multi-tasking then you really need it. But I was wondering if it was as old as mine then what type of RAM do you put in? Most high speed rams today are DDR2 and boards during that time do not support DDR2 yet. Thanks for sharing!

Ooops somehow I lost a decimal place. It should have been 0.5 and I have two 1 gb sticks to put in which is the maximum this computer will hold. RAM seems fairly cheap, especially when compared to a new computer, and I am happy with windows XP. In order to upgrade to Vista you pretty much need a new computer and I have read a lot of mixed reviews on Vista.

my desktop is 2 years old, its a Vista. I got it after my old computer crashed. It was a not so pleasant experience. I lost a lot of important files. That was a hard lesson learned. Now I have an external hard disk for backup. My laptop is couple of months old. It will be one year come December. I have no problems so far.

I have had my laptop for about 1 year and a half now. It's still in great working condition. We had to send it in once because of something that happend but I dont remember and they fixed it for free and has been running fine evry since. I do not plan on upgrading or buying new anytime soon. I think my laptop still has alot of life left in it!
