The flower is named after its European discoverer Thomas Stamford Raffles. First discovered in Sumatra in 1818, twenty Rafflesia species have been found so far in different parts of Southeast Asia. Many of the species are extremely rare, and have been recorded from only a handful of localities. The biggest flower in the world can be found at Sibalom,Antique.

It is worth to be proud of, I started reading and searching on the web of the write-up about this flower. Once i made my own journal on this, i would sched. myself for a visit and perhaps if giving a chance to get closer in determing more the characteristics on this flower, who knows amazing thing might happen out from it's stinky smell.

I've seen that flower in TV Patrol once when it was discovered and found in Antique. Such a big flower but said that it has a strong odor. Lucky for those people who have seen it personally, for this flowers are extremely rare and not to be found anywhere. Hmmm I was thinking to give one Rafflesia flower to my lady hehe. Have a nice day..

I have seen this in a flower magazine and it's an original of Indonesia and in the southeastern Asian countries. Here in the Philippines, it was first found in Davao and in other parts of Mindanao. It was later found out in the mountains of Panay. It's beautiful looking, but one of its characteristics is its stinky smell. I wish I could see one, because it was considered the largest flower. It would be one memorable experience to have a picture beside the Rafflesia Flower. Have a nice day!

We were taught about this when I was still in High School. As I remember, it was during my Asian History class during my sophomore years. Our teacher showed us one picture of it and its the same picture you attached here. We used the name Rafflesia as our patrol name during our school camping when we were in Third year. I just forgot how we came up with that idea but I think it was because of its unique name, unlike other patrols who named theirs rose, gumamela, daisy, sunflower etc. But I learned from the Discovery channel that it doesn't smell good. Anyway, I wish to see one soon. I don't have to smell it, right?
