Do you think a donation button on your blog would get you extra cash?

I have been wondering since the very first day I started blogging. Though they are rare, I have seen people put a donation button on their blogs. Have you done it? Are they effective?
Do you think I will get donations if I start a blog about rescuing stray dogs? I have paid out of my own pocket to send them to animal shelters. Yes, it's unfortunate that animal shelters here strongly "encourage" donations before they take in any stray animals.

it can but chances are very less . first because very few people are there on net who have net account and like to donate online. second it depends upon your website quality . third it depends upon your aim . because most people are ready to donate for earthquake, flood, children etc. fourth it depends upon proof that have you ever given money to them for whom you are asking.

Yes, you will so. But first you must have a legal foundation with solid personality so there has a clear finance responsibility.

As the other people said, it depends on your blog. If your blog is about making money online, its kind of ironic to ask your readers to donate to your blog especially with an online payment method such as Paypal. I have not received any donations yet, but don't expect any anytime soon. Also, it depends on the quality of your blog. If you have been blogging for months or maybe even years, there is always a greater chance of people donating. Just my thoughts. Hope I was of some help.
