i will probably work as long as i could. i get inspired by my boss who is 82 years old and still as strong as a horse ;-)
my boss and i have this once-a-week talk about how things are in our office and our business and i am always amazed by his diligence to his work. oh, he is not perfect. old age made him a little more funny (his stories are repetitious. i have almost memorized them, including the time he stands up or shouts for emphasis LOL!) but you can never fool him about work. he is still sharp and updated by the going-ons in our line of work.
what about you? do you like your job that you want to stay as long as you could?
have a nice day!

It is wonderful to hear from someone who appreciates an older boss. My hat's off to him for his "state of the union" talks that include you and your ideas. As for me, I retired 6 1/2 months after I turned 65. I would liked to have worked longer, but my husband wanted me at home. He is older than I and had already been retired for several years.

Romantic? If my husband has a romantic bone in his body, I haven't found it yet. Well, maybe a sliver. Yes, he wanted me home to cook and keep him company. At that time, he was about the only man on the street who was already retired. Also, My office was being moved to a new building on the outskirts of the city, which meant that I would have to drive several miles farther each way via one of the most dangerous routes, a new bypass still partly in the country, high speed, heavy commercial traffic and many drivers like me who had not yet figured out how to get where they needed to go. Now that I've been retired a while, I don't want to go back to work. Guess I've gotten lazy.

If it's possible, I want to retire earlier. Perhaps it's better for me to retire when I am 50 years. I have many things to do after my retirement and my schedule will be so full. Finally I can have my own time to do what I like. Working shouldn't be all parts of my life. I shall spend some time to do what I like. If I retire very late, I am afraid I can't have enough time to enjoy life. And that will be a big regret.
I love China

i guess retiring young is alright if you have a lot of things to do lined up, like you do. you won't be idle.
thanks, youless. i also believe that life should also be enjoyed.

It's interesting to hear your situation and point of view on working. I think it's a good outlook on work and life in general. Although I haven't thoroughly enjoyed the corporate jobs I've had for many years, I do however, realize the importance of working...not just for money for our well being. This probably sounds crazy to most people, but I truly think that people who retire early and don't do any kind of work, die sooner. Although a lot of us crave plenty of vacation and wished we had more time for our families...we were meant to do something...and not just for ourselves. By working, we help others, hopfully, and we help ourselves. Through work (not all I realize), we have some purpose. We weren't meant to lay around on a beach, doing nothing for the rest of our lives. With that said, I do think it's important to evaluate what we are doing in our jobs/works.

now that you said it, i think i would go crazy if i do not have a job. i mean, lying on the beach is heaven but only when you only get to do it once in a while. i think it will lost its appeal when i can do it everyday! LOL!
yup, stodd777, i need my job not only to earn money but also to keep me sane.
take care!

WOW 82 years old and still going stong. I only wish I could do that. I had to quit working in 1999 and my health has been going down rapidily. I don't expect to be able to walk all that much longer but I just take each day as it comes. I should be in a much different place for a person of my age and yet I know of others younger and in worse shape. We're all different and here for different reasons.

hi, grandmaof2.
yup 82. but i agree with you we are all different and here on earth for different reasons. i think what's important is that we take each day as it comes and be happy with what we have.
take care, friend. have a nice day. mwah.

Our retirement account took a major hit recently. So at this point we will be working for a long time. At one job or another. You never can tell what the future will bring. We aren't yet 40 so we have some time to figure things out. I'd rather stay a bit active anyway.

hi ersmommy1
you are right, we cannot never tell what the future brings. you are young, you know, and retirement seems so far away. just work hard and enjoy life, as they say.
thanks for the response. take care!

The way things look now I'll probably never retire.
I'm only 57 but I have no choice but to keep on working because I have nothing put aside for retirement.
Thats just how my life went.
So its encouraging to know guys still work at 82.
My father retired at 76.

hi, bluepatch
i guess you just have to enjoy working or at least find ways to make it not too stressful. that is not bad, in fact, i think it's good too because your mind will always be active and you won't get old :-)
thanks and see you around!

it's great that you have something to pass on to your kids. of course, they need you to guide them until the day comes that they will be as competent as you are in doing the job.

ill retire depending on how successful i get. if i end up gettin one of those average paid jobs then ill probably retire at 65. if i become a full-time big money maker than im goin to work till i get too old and dusty to move :)

I doubt that I will ever be able to retire. We had our children late and they will be in collage when we are in our sixties. Also, we have been unable to save because of a couple of bad realestate invetments an a business where we were a partner and got ripped off by one of the other partners. I am still trying various ways to make money and may be successful sooner or later but my day job may be what we rely on for the duration in which case I will be working until I drop. I guess there is nothing wrong with that as long as you like what you do.

Hi Rainegurl! In India the retirement age is 58. If my health provide me to work till that age I will work. And after that if we are home and working its good for the health and we will be strong enough otherwise the retirement will make one sickness. Some people jooin some trust and other society work after the retirement. How long I can can work I dont know lets see . Happy posting and have a nice day.

Fist of all I don't like my job as a cop, high pressure, low salary, health overdraft. I want to retire at 30 though I am alreay 29, which is impossible obviously. After retirement I'd like to do something as my will.

If I really loved my job I would work it until I was absolutely unable. I know some peopel who work at a company so long that they can pretty much take off 2 months of vacation if they wanted to. That, along with benefits, PTO, sick leave etc you could have a nice setup.
