Did you know Africa is a Continent? Palin didn't.

Fox News correspondent Carl Cameron reported yesterday that while she was preparing for her debate with Joe Biden, Sarah Palin didn't realize that Africa is a continent as well as a country. "Fox news has reported that Mrs Palin did not understand that Africa was a continent, not a country, and did not know what countries were in the North American Free Trade Agreement." http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article5095495.ece I can't believe this. What do you think?

I know it isn't. She thought it is a country, not a continent. Sorry I typed it wrong.

And, it was reported on Fox as well, another known right-wing news outlet. No smear here - just plain stupidity on the part of the GOP in choosing this airhead.

Jerz, I see you've fallen for the myth that Fox News is right wing. NOT SO. It simply allows BOTH sides to air views. I can't tell you how many far left libs I've seen there. Maggiepie.

I think that guy was on Billo last night and my husband wanted to watch it and I heard them talking about this and the shopping sprees. I don't know I have a hard time believing it because back when we were in school we learned this stuff not just the tests lol I am in no way a Palin supporter trust me but, this one I don't know it sounds to out there.

There are quite a few things that are a bit hard to believe when it comes to things being said about Palin. What I find funny is their continuous need to repeat it now that the election is over. What's the point?

My guess is that they're going to make her a scapegoat for their loss. So, get the dirt out on her to justify their own blame of her costing them the election.

I was going to post the same thing this morning. Actually I'm sure a lot of people probably don't know all the countries in NAFTA, however, to not know Africa was a continent and running for Vice President. During one of her speeches Palin indicated the importance of education, especially since at least 2 of her relatives are teachers.

I think it's pure here say krap. There is no shred of proof that this is true, it was said by someone in the McCain campaign trying to deflect blame for the lousy campaign they ran. Nothing to see here folks, go on back to your homes.

My son is in grade four and he recently was studying the world and all the continents, oceans, provinces and capitals of each of those and Canada's capital. We spent a few nights reviewing it and he aced the test. He is special needs and knows that Africa is a continent. Though he doesn't know which countries are in NAFTA or what that even is. But I do and I am just a community college nobody in a rural community in Eastern Canada. Not someone running for vice president. Please. DUM DUM DUM.

There's a difference between the arrogant guy that thinks he knows everything and the person who doesn't know but is willing to learn. Sarah Palin is the latter and she's a quick learner. People don't know a lot of stuff. It doesn't make them stupid.

No, of course it doesn't make them stupid, but I wouldn't want someone representing me or my country that, at her age, didn't know basic stuff about the world or our country. My 12 year-old knew the answers to those questions - it's very pathetic that she didn't. Not knowing that Africa is a continent or what countries are in North America is bad enough, but not knowing what the role of the vice president is? A job she was campaigning for? How would she even know that she wanted the job if she didn't know what the vice president does? And you say she's a fast learner? I think not. A fast learner would have figured out what the vice president did after the first time that she made the mistake of not knowing, but not Sarah Palin. She couldn't be bothered as shown by the fact that she made the same mistake more than once.

When I was in 9th grade, our Social Studies teacher made us memorize all the countries in Africa and know where they were on a map. He told us that if he ran into us in 20 years, he wanted us to still know them. Some have changed since then, but I can still pretty much tell you where they all are on a map. In elementary school, we learned about the seven continents. That subject was touched on periodically throughout my school years. How she couldn't know that even WITH a degree I can't understand. She comes across as someone who didn't think she needed to worry about learning anything since she had looks to carry her.

I don't know how old you are, but I think the only country whose name has changed was Congo. It used to be Zaire. Maybe I'm wrong there too, but your teacher made you learn something even I didn't know when I was in the 9th. I had never heard of the country Cameroon until I was 22.

When I was in the 6th grade we had what was called "Geography" and we had to learn the countries in all of the continents. I'll bet every one of the 5th graders on the tv show knew that answer correctly. Now we have to remember, she went to 5 colleges and got her degree in Journalism, not science, not math, not history, not social studies. Even her handlers said they couldn't control her spending habits when she went on that spending spree. She even charged an additional 30k on her handler's charge cards. There's no question that the RNC is making her the "scape goat" and maybe she deserves it. They only picked her to run so they could pick up the votes left hanging that were going to Hillary. To their dismay it didn't work. I doubt that it was McCain's idea to pick her, maybe I'm wrong though. Regardless, they got clobbered!

Well, this is not surprising. We should not expect her to know everything. She is not a polished woman. She is the average "Joe 6 pack". In her defense, the media does try to pick on her a bit. I think she will fall back into the shadows of Alaska now and right back to what she knows. It was a good booster attempt for the republican party, but she is not ready to lead in this arena!.

You are right....I watched the video that the link led to as well, and in my opinion, it was a positive video for Palin....that she was strong after the results of the election by saying that she is moving on and continuing her journey in her state. Nonetheless, it had NOTHING to do with the subject of this post. I guess Palin isn't the only one who makes mistakes, huh?

Is knowing that Africa is a continent what you think one should know to be a politician? By the way, Sarah Palin has been in the city council, a mayor, and now the governor of Alaska. That doesn't exactly make her new in politics.
