Have your kids been getting told things from other kids at school b/c of the new president? I just talked to my aunt and her daughter at a middle school has been hearing things like. Now we are finally free from slavery. Also for the white people to line up so they can go start working in the cotton fields. I didn't think that kids in school would be saying things like that. Where are they getting this stuff from? I was also surprised by a bulletin that was on myspace. This is it ---
A white man asked his black friend, 'Are you voting for Barack Obama just because he's black?'
The black man responded by saying, 'Why not? Hell, in this country men are pulled over everyday just cause they're black; passed over for promotions just cause they're black; considered to be criminals just cause they're black; and there are going to be thousands of you who won't be voting for him just because he's black! However, you do not seem to have a problem with that! This country was built with the sweat and whip off the black slaves' back, and now a son of Africa (the origin of those same slaves) has a chance to lead the same country, where we weren't even considered to be people, where we weren't allowed to be educated, drink from the same water fountains, eat in the same restaurants, or even vote.
So yes! I'm going to vote for him! But it's not just because he's black, but because he is hope, he is change, and he now allows me to understand when my child says that he wants to be president when he grows up, it is not a fairy tale but a short term goal He now sees, understands and knows that he can achieve, withstand and do ANYTHING just because he's black!'
Rosa sat so that Martin could walk.
Martin walked so that Barack could run.
Barack is running so that our children can fly.
I think its sad that people think and feel this way.

Usually kids reflect the words of their own parents or that of what they hear from the adverts. I hope that Obama brings about the necessary and promised change. © ronaldinu 2008

Several posts keep saying he is president but right now he is president elect not president. Also, they are calling him a black president, but he is half white, so he could just as easily be called a white president. The correct thing if race conscience people want to insist on making race an issue would be to say he is of mixed race. He could be chartruse for all I care, I did not vote for him because of his liberal views not because of any concern over race. As far as change goes, so far most of his appointments make it hard to tell that he won and Clinton didn't. Pelosi and her gang of liberal Democrats will still have the power and he will be subject to their policy desires not the other way around.

I think so too. We should have been voting for principles not just color. I dont think we made history b/c we voted in an African American. I think we made history b/c of our weaknesses.
