It can help me sleep but its not neccessary. Of course its the best way to get fat and thats why I quit doing it for the most part. Do you do it all the time or never or every now and than. I use not be able to get to sleep but than I would get up and pig out and than I would fall a sleep. That helped my insomnia back when I had it.

Hi elmiko,
A big meal usually gets you sleep a lot, but if the meal is too big you could feel discomfortness in everything. Eating big lunch makes me feel very sleepy. I have tried it a lot in my college days.
Cheers and regards,

Happy earnings :)

The meal should always be moderate and should be taken in time...never change the timings of intake everyday...Also atleast 2-3 hours gap should be there after dinner and then go to sleep...I recommend to hav food 5 times a day and the quantity should be limited while taking care of nutrients in it...This will increase the metabolism rate and the body will keep working perfectly..

Yes, most of the time after eating I will feel very sleepy. Maybe it has something to do with the stomach's activity which makes me sleepy. I can go to sleep every time after I eat something heavy. But yes, as you just said before, eating and going straight to sleep makes our body to become fat. And we can get fat very fast.
Actually last two days I didn't get enough sleep during the night, so in the morning I felt groggy and I couldn't focus on my work. I felt so tired, so I thought maybe if I eat something before I start doing my work I would feel more energetic.
However, I felt so hungry and I ended up eating a plate of white rice, 3 large pieces of fried yam and a bar of chocolate. After eating all that, I still felt hungry but I insisted that I shouldn't eat more. I went back to my work station, and I turned on the air conditioner.
In just one minute, I felt very sleepy and I couldn't concentrate on my work at all. At last I gave in and I slept for one hour straight. After I woke up, I went to the mirror and I saw my face is already a little chubby and when I weighed myself I have gained 1 kilogram just by sleeping! Hmmm....

Hello,Miko! Normally I eat my principal meal in the night.I never eat breakfast.I manage morning hours with just two cups of tea and a glass of vegetable juice. And the lunch I eat a light meal as eating a heavy meals makes me lazy in the work place. So dinner is important for me.If I don't eat a satisfactory meal in the night I can't get a good night sleep.thanx.

eating a big meal does help you go to sleep. Now there`s a scientific reason behind that. Every time you have a big meal it leads to intensive load on the stomach to digest the food. that causes the blood supply to the stomach increased exponentially. This calls for cutting short all other bodily functions to the minimum. Hence it makes you feel drowsy and sleepy so that you go to a state of minimum energy requirement for the rest of your body processes and all the bodily resources are channelized for your digestion to take place. And thats the reason why u should not do heavy exercise after a meal , as it will affect the digestion process of the meal in a big way.

Yes eating a big meal will make you sleepy but this is actually a big no-no: to sleep right after eating, especially at night. It is said that we should have digested part of the food we consumed at night before turning in. This is because our body regenerates at nighttime so it should be left to do just that. If we ate a large meal, then the body will have to concentrate on digesting food instead of detoxifying out system, regenerating damaged cells, filtering pollutants and building our immune system.
And if we intend to sleep right after eating, it is best to take something light and nothing fatty or greasy.

I can't sleep when I'm too full. I usually don't eat a lot before I sleep, I just don't find it comfortable to do so. Also, I read that it's not healthy to do so. If we eat before we sleep, our digestion system has to work even when we are sleeping, and the system doesn't get to rest.
If I'm hungry before I sleep, I'll drink a glass of milk.

elmiko,
Eating a big meal especially late in the evening has been putting on the pounds. Due to uncontrollable circumstances, my hubby and I have been eating our dinner meal mostly after 8:00 pm. Not good!! Because of that and my immobility for the most part, I am gaining weight. I really have to do something about it. The problem is, I don't believe in diets. Sure you lose weight but inevitably it comes back, worse than before. I will find the answer someway. One problem I don't have is insomnia, thankfully.

Its really a lifestyle change that works. I also agree Diets don't work. I lost over 20lbs recently and didn't do it by diet but instead by something I do everyday. Its mostly not eatting a before bed as I did gain weight like that more than anything which makes since because your not moving at all when sleeping. I wait 2 hours at the most without eatting before I go to bed and it to keep the weight off. Its pretty simple for me unlike all the complicated diets i've heard of. I also play some basketball at times. I'm probably going to start playing some basketball just about everyday and I know I would lose alot more weight. I'm still heavy at 246 and need to be at least 220 for my ideal weight. I use to play basketball everyday when I was younger and I never was overweight. I guess I should have never stopped.

Eating a big meal before sleep cannot help me sleep well. On the contrary, it makes me uncomfortable and difficult to fall asleep. I remember once I ate a large pan-cake before going to bed and could not get to sleep for quite a long time. Even after I fell sleep, I woke up several times during the night, burping. Eating too much right before sleep makes me really sick.

Some people said we should not sleep when our stomach is full or you just ate. I dont know the reason behind this but i think it is related to how the digestive system works.

Eating a big meal will definitely makes me sleepy. Supposedly you need around 4 hours to let the food digest properly before you can go to bed. As for me, eating big meals will make me sleepy and get hungry fast. The power of overeating! That's why I'll try to stop eating before getting full. I'm glad that it helped your insomnia problem, but at the same time gaining a few more pounds D:

A big meal can't help me sleep. When I eat so much,I will feel my stomatch distending and uncomfortable. If lying,I will feel something blocking my airway, and my breath will be restricted. So,in that case,I will choose to walk around, after that I will feel better. And in fact,I usually want to sleep after lunch, but not a big meal.People says hat is because blood moves in stomtch, and there is less qxygen in brain.Maybe that's right, but why I don't have the similar case after breakfast or supper?
Well, there are a lot of methods to help you sleep.Do not eat so much, that will be bad for your health. You can have milk before sleep, and don't do something exciting.

I can't sleep when my stomach is too full, so I only eat enough to satisfy my hunger during dinner to help me sleep well at night.

No not at all, if I was to eat a big meal late at night I would be up all night with heartburn and tummy ache. I cannot eat after a certain time at night, so if I get really hungry I just have to suffer with it until the next day. Last night I was really hungry as I had not eaten much dinner, I decided to just have a little bit of something to take the edge off it, I was up most of the night then!

I can not remember the name of the book from which I get the message that it is not suitable to eat anything during the three hours before sleeping. I stick to this idea and seldom eat anything before sleeping. However, since I always sleep after midnight, my supper is more harvest than others.

Usualy I feel sleepy when I eat too much breakfast and aslo need a snap after a full lunch. But after dinner, I can stay long time without eating anything alse.
I guess you are not fat, so if it really helps you sleep well, just try it, but remember, don't eat too much, that will have a bad impact on your stomach.
And you can also try to read something boring before sleep, it will make you fall asleep more quickly. I found it is very helpful when I am still full of energy late at night. Music will helps too, just relax, sleep will come.
God bless.
