How to describe a person and his character through what he did?

My dear friends here, would you like to help me to polish the folling artice? I really want it improved for my students to study about how to describe a person and his character though what he did in English. Thank you really.
The first time I saw Mr. Green, my new English teacher, I was almost knocked down. He stand out splendidly above all my teachers because of his tall figure. He wears full beard and thick glasses, which makes his look very serious. In fact, almost 15 years older though he is than us, he treats us like friends and promises to observe the school discipline just like each of us. Action speaks louder than words. He did set an good example for us. Once a winter morning, he was two minutes later for class. He first admitted his mistakes in public, and when the class is over, he walked out and stood in the chilling wind for half an hour just like any one of us who did something wrong.
