Do you have internet connection at home?... How long have you had it?...

In the 3 years that i have had my own apartment... i just got internet connection last weekend... well... i piggybacked on the wifi connection of the owner of the apartment building... and yes... i asked for their permission and volunteered to pay 250 pesos a month... that is like less than $5... isn't that the best... since i was able to save 75% or more if i went out and got my own internet connection...
But the problem is... i don't have a working laptop... since i am still waiting for my friend to arrive from abroad to fix it... so i will just take my office computer at home every friday... it is not really a big deal because months ago my boss told me i could do that...
So now... every weekend... my daughter will be able to see my husband through web cam... and they can talk for hours... without me worrying about the bill... that is like the best thing that ever happened to us in months....
Do you have internet connection at home?... How long have you had it?... and what kind do you have?... are you using DSL... wifi... or still the dial up connection?...

We've had an internet connection at home since quite some years. We took a WiFi system very recently, say may be five months back. And wow. Its does make a difference. In reliability, speed, etc. So go ahead my dear. Buy a desktop.

It has been two years since we got connected with PLDT's myDSL and we sometimes get connection problems and I end practicing my english through complaining through their hot line. (^_^")
Before that, we would alwyas purchase those internet cards since we utilized that dial-up connection and we often have to know those that would be calling so that we wouldn't be making them wait while we use the connection while going online.
Midway during those two years of DSL connection, I bought a router that enabled wireless connectivity for the laptop a sister of my mother sent to us and then that laptop that my father got from that Non-government oragnization that he is affiliated with.
It was all good at first, I'd be playing with my brother while we go online and form parties on that game we played. Then later on, I found out that a neighbor was getting connected through our wireless network. At first, I didn't mind but, now that bills are getting high, I decided to close the network for our house alone. If they'd want to get connected through our connection again, they might as well ask and offer something to compensate with the bills.. I mean, they didn't ask the first time after all. (^_^")
So, we're currently using DSL and have our network capable of wi-fi too.

At my parents house... they have a dsl connection too... and they too had a router since there are two laptops and one computer there... but my father accidentally broke it... so they can only use the computer for internet access... and i keep bugging my brother to fix the router already because on Christmas day... our young cousing will be at the house... and they would surely want to access the internet there...
I immediately offered to pay for my use of the wifi connection... since i do not want my landlady to think that i was taking advantage of their kind heart... one of the tenants was actually paying twice what i offered... but since i have been renting there for two years now... eversince the building became available to live in... and my daughter and i never gave her any problems... she gave me a great discount... so right now... i am very happy with my life...

I really do not know... since i was only able to try the wifi connection last Saturday and Sunday... i think during that time... they are also using it... so i can freely use it too... i just hope i won't encounter that situation where they turned it off... and i really want to use the internet...
By the way... how did you find out the your neighbor was also using your wireless network?...

Hey, your parents also have two laptops and a computer? Too bad that your dad accidentally broke the router.. your brother should really fix it before Christmas indeed. Then agian, if there's only one computer capable of internet connection, your cousins would have to wait turns while the others get to bond with the family...?
Well, that's nice to know.. though, it would also be nice if you could get your own laptop working so that you could just let that office computer be at work and not have to trouble yourself on carrying it every friday.. (^_^ ) Still, being able to pay that low for a month of internet connection isn't really a bad deal. Good for you!
Hmmm, would the internet connection be always active? I mean, they have to turn it off every now and then, I suppose?

I'm still on Dial-up connection and i'm not thinking of changing anytime soon. I didn't know that my mobile sim card had a fault from my Internet service provider and it could allow me free access to the net
Ok, here is my situation, i get free internet access and i'm not sure why, one day i loaded an prepay aritime on my mobile just to surf the net and to my surprise i could browse for hours without being disconnected by my ISP, and checked how much i left with on my account and to my surprise again...the amount of airtime i loaded it was still there, and thats when irealised that my mobile sim card had free access to surf the net.
All i did was to purchase a mobile connect modem but the speed is slow, but who cares about the speed if you have free access?I am not sure when they will find out about it but i know it cannot go like this forever
But one thing that surprise is that i'm another network and my internet connection comes from another network different from the one that provide me with communication access
Is like i receive communication access(phone calls and SMS messages) from network A and internet connection which comes from network B.
Wow i wish it had fast connection to the net

Maybe that free internet is a part of the package that you got... and that is very lucky of you... i used my cell phone to access the internet at home... and it cost me a lot... but now that i can access wifi internet... i will definitely be able to save a lot of money...
Thanks for the response...

I'm on prepaid and there are no packages there, the thing is that is now 2 and half years since i got this. I laso think that it is very expensive when you use the mobile to connect to the net, in few minutes and the bill is already high
I like wifi but i have no idea how it works, maybe you break down something for me.
I have this friend of mine who has a laptop with wifi and he never used the wifi connection. So he say it is possible to connect via a certain high speed connection from other people's(or maybe via a company's connection)
He say he would sit outside the company's preimises and connect to the net with wifi on his laptop via their connection, is it possible to do that?
I mean can't there some permissions required from that company's servers before he could totally get connected via their connection?

If the wifi connection is not password protected... then anyone with laptop that is wireless connection enable can access the internet through that... but if it is... they you have to get the password first...
I guess you are quite lucky with your free cellphone internet... but that is quite slow... but then if it is free... why should we complain about it...

Hi there!
I have internet connection at home, i have been using it for nearly four years. Initially i was having a dial up connection. That was actually for few months, later on i switched to DSL and right now i am using it still and pretty much satisfied with its perfomance.
Cheers :)

Well, dsl is pretty much faster than dial up connection by a lot of miles... so it is good that you do not have to put up with that slow and sometimes hard to connect dial up internet... i also love the wifi i am using... because it is really fast...
Thanks for the response... welcome to mylot and i hope you enjoy every minute of your stay here...

Yes I have an Internet connection at home. I've had it for the past 7 years. As for the connection I have dial-up. I'd like to get something faster, but the only thing available where I am at is satellite and I heard that not only is it more expensive than DSL or cable, it's not as fast. So I'll keep my slow connection until cable or DSL is available in my area.

If Grandpa Bob could do it so can I!
I've never had anything faster, so I am kind of used to it, but I've been told by numerous others that it is quite slow. Even my husband told me how slow it really is after using his sister's computer and the one at his job. Oh well, at least I have a connection at all, no matter how sloooow it is.

I am so glad that you can be connected to your friend so your daughter can see her father. It is important for children to know their parents it is sad then they have to work out of the county. I am glad you where able to get internet at home.

Well, that is like the set up in most Filipino families... the father or mother must work abroad in order to provide the family with a better and comfortable life... i remember in the past... we used the voice tape to our father who was then working in Saudi Arabia... but i am just glad that the internet made us more closer to our loved ones working or living far away...
Thanks for the respones...

I have internet at home. I have had it in my current home for 2 years, since I've lived here. Before that, I had it for 3 years at previous residences. So, I have had it for about the last 5 years. I have DSL that I use with a wireless network, which I am assuming you are talking about when you say "wifi". I have to have internet access because I go to school online.

I think the wireless network you are referring to is a router... i do not know if the owner of the apartment has that... but they have an antenna where we are suppose to be getting the internet connection... i agree... since you are studying through an online school... you cannot afford not to have internet connection...
Thanks for the response...

That is probably what your apartment owner has. A wireless router just takes an internet signal coming through a cable or phone line and broadcasts it through an area with an antenna.

Yes we do have a DSL internet connection at home - but that's at home and I'm not at home during the weekdays :P At work we also have a very fast internet connection - however, in the place where I stay during the weekdays there is no internet connection. And I don't really mind because I spend the whole day infront of the PC, I should just rest my eyes after :)
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

I've had this apartment for more than 5 years. For a year we had no internet connection and I would go out to access the net. Then we had a dial-up for a year or so.We then changed the phone provider and we didn't have an internet connection with the new phone. For quite a while I would acess it from outside. I didn't have a baby at home and I had time then.
After I had my younger one, it was difficult to go out and we also didn't have aworking computer. Last year, we got our new computer and at the same time we got a new phone connection that was provided free of cost with a DSL connection. I've been using this from home for the past one year now.

Before i had my current job... i would either go to my parent house or to an internet cafe so that i can acces the internet... i prefer the latter because i do not need to pay anything... it is just a good thing that i had internet access in the office with no limitations... and now it is better because i can do it at home too...

We've had our internet connection through our cable company for years now. It's a fairly fast connection. I don't care for the cost - even witht eh tv, internet and phone bundled it takes a huge part of my budget.
Talking about speed of connection, at one of our homes, the connection was slow and the cable company said that could have been because we were at the end of the cable line.
I bet you are seriously enjoying your weekend conversations. It must feel like a luxury.

That is just like bad luck... having slow internet connection because your is the end of the cable line... if that happens to me... i think i will just switch provider... but yes... we are definitely enjoying the conversations... just last night i brought the laptop home... and my daughter happily showed off her new toys to her dad...

Hello aseretdd,
I have internet connection at home and I am using broadband. The very first thing that we need when we moved in is that, the area has broadband connection. We used dial up once and it was very hard as it was slow to upload almost everything. My husband needs a fast internet connection due to his work. I am satisfied with the internet provider. As far as I can remember, I only complained twice about the service
