We do both in my family. We have alot of people and have found out that this works out well because of everyones schedules and the locations, as well as the sizes of some of our homes.Sometimes, it works out best because of two sets of relatives. How about you?

There are only three of us my friend, four if you count the cat and she gets presents as well, naturally! We are all patient enough to wait for the big day itself and only open our presents on Christmas Day and we've always done this, but because we are a small family unit this is easy and unproblematic to do.

She is an old lady now, I got her for my 25th birthday she was 2 then, I am now 37, so that makes her 14! She is black and white and a right madam with it. No, sadly I haven't got my frogs any more because I had to move from my last home and I had to give them away, I couldn't trust my ex to look after them and I wanted to break all my ties, it was bad enough leaving Zeus (the beautiful ginger and white cat I idolized)

That is so sweet that you get the cat a present. What kind of cat is it? Do you still have your frogs? I have two albino frogs and they are getting big. Thats true when you dont have as many people, you can do that.

for us, because we pretty much have 3 christmas's, it doesnt really matter to us. we will try to get together with my hubbys family on christmas eve (they are german) and christmas day with my family and then we do our own family's christmas on boxing day (here in canada, it is another holiday!) so it just depends on what whose doing what as to when we get together.

Thats the truth , when you have several different houses that cook and ours dont get together at the same place everytime. It switches around and actualy gets a bit confusing about who is doing what!

I do not always get to go to a Christmas Eve service, but it is great when I can. On the other hand, sometimes I am participating in the service on Christmas Eve.

We have always done both, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Now with my youngest living 6 hours away they open their gifts at home and have their Christmas morning to see what Santa brought then they hit the road and come down here. We open gifts up Christmas Eve and after they get here we will eat then open up gifts from each other plus Santa always leaves a gift or two here for my grandson too.

Ever since I was a child,we opened Christmas gifts on Christmas Eve. Then opened our stockings Christmas morning. Even today, as an adult, my family, in SoCal and my husbands family, in NorCal, do the same thing. It is just a cool tradition to keep going.

Some people say that its better to do that so that on Christmas day, they can ffocus on the cooking and the meal and the cleaning up ect. I can understand that because there is alot to do.

Christmas eve in my husband's family, Christmas day in mine. Usually means we spend Christmas eve with his relatives and do presents with them and then Christmas day with mine and do presents with them. If we aren't spending Christmas with anybody, we let them open one present Christmas eve, and then they find the rest of them on Christmas morning.

It depends on who we are Christmas-ing with. My hubby can hardly stand to buy anything and not have me open it right away. When my kids are in town it is whenever we can all get together.

I let my children open up ONE present on christmas eve - and I pick which one. LOL. Usually it's something new for that night. Such as a new set of pyjama's or a pillow or blanket. The rest of the presents get opened in the morning.

when i was young we used to go to one set of grandparent's (my dad's parents) home on christmas eve. my other grandparents would then come spend the night at our house and be there to open presents christmas morning. as we got older and things changed in our lives, marriage, moves, etc., we would do christmas eve with my ex-husbands family, and then leave around 4 am to drive 4 hours to my parents home for christmas morning. for the past 3 christmas' i have lived 1600 miles away, so me and my s/o exchange gifts christmas morning, then go to his parents' that afternoon, we usually pick up his daughter on the way there, it's also her birthday, then later in the evening we are back home and open gifts with her at our house. this christmas will be a bit different, it will be our first christmas apart, i am flying down to surprise my family for christmas this year. i'll be leaving the 23rd and coming home the 30th, so we'll have our christmas before i leave.

We've always opened one present on Christmas Eve and opened the rest on Christmas morning. Now that my sons are on their own, my husband and I exchange one gift Christmas eve and my boys come over Christmas morning. Christmas has always been at my house for my entire family, except when my sister was in a nursing home. We'd spend the day with her once she could no longer come to my house. They always served a very nice Christmas dinner for the residents and their families. It's funny, though. We now live in a bigger home and my family has dwindled down considerably in the last 5 years!

Hi there! Oh the feeling of Christmas is here!! This topic gives me memories about our give giving day. Well, in my family we give our gifts to each other on Christmas day itself so we open the gifts on the 25th. We do the gift giving every morning when everyone is already awake. I remember how everyone gets excited receiving gifts and can't wait to open it. It's just fun! Ciao!

AT my parents we either do it the weekend before or after christmas to accomodate all the inlaws since there is 5 children and all have spouses or significant others. Me and my husband and kids have ours on Christmas eve morning and his parents that night. Then my little girl goes to her daddys for christmas morning. It seems like we usually have a whole week of christmas stuff.

Opening of Christmas Present - A snapshot of a little boy opening his Christmas present / gift.
It doesn't matter what day you want to open your Christmas present(s) just as long the spirit of Christmas is still intact. However, I'm more on between. Although we don't necessarily follow any tradition, but I prefer to open my gift in between Christmas Eve and Christmas day. In short, opening of presents will occur at 12 in the midnight - kinda like the countdown of new year. Having an "opening of present" countdown is much more exciting especially when you and your family do it together. Christmas - the Christian holiday which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Present - a gift, now especially one given for birthdays or Christmas. Tradition - a commonly held system. Let peace reign. Let love rule.

I love giving presents. I do not care if I receive anything or not. I just like to give and especialy to the children. Seeing their eyes light up is just the best feeling in the world. I am working on Christmas for 5 grandchildren now.

Dolls, doll clothes, purses, action figures, candy, art supplies and things like that. It will be a big mixture. They dont live close by so is a big deal whenever I see them. I am very excited that they are going to be here because I havent seen them since August. They are a joy and its always exciting and busy when they are here. They tell me about every thing that has gonne on and I get full reports. Its wonderful and I make sure and feed them all their favorite foods so they are spoiled the entire time.I love them so much, they are a blessing and a great joy.

Here in Finland the tradition is to open the gifts on X-mas eve. Families gather on X-mas eve to have a dinner together and then we'll open the gifts after dinner. ;-D

We do open Christmas presents when my children were still young.I get this tradition from my mother. She made me believe there was a Santa Claus.I can say my childhood Christmas was always happy. So when I had my own children I also made my children believed in Santa Claus until they are ten years old or earlier maybe they did not let me know they already knew I was their Santa Claus because they are enjoying the Christmas gifts. But since they have their own family and we are left alone my husband and my 15 year old son, that tradition does not exist in our house anymore and I feel sad about it.

My parents raised me to believe in Santa too. I do also miss the days when the children were at home. It was such a wonderful time and I do cherish the memories. I can only hope that my children realise how fast their children will grow up and be gone.

It's usually Christmas at home on the Eve morning. Then we drive 2 and 1/2 hours to my parents for Christmas Eve, stay overnight and go to my in-laws on Christmas Day. It's busy!
