How did you decide your dog?

the dogs you have had did you choose by breed or by chance?? i mean most people like certain breeds but i always end up which whatever one im drawn to more than what type it is.. but im not really a pure breed person and i never go to pet shops because i feel bad for how they are treated and the shelters i might save one from being killed.. my childhood dog was a pure breed poodle and that dog was awful so i think maybe thats why i dont like pure breed lol!! so are you loyal to the personality or the breed?? if its breed has it always been the same or have you switched around?? i dont know if i could always have dogs that looked similar.. i think after one would pass it would be hard on me to see some one that looked like her

Don't laugh. I have 3 large dogs and 4 3 week old puppies all house dogs. I did not choose my dogs, they chose me. I know it sounds crazy but it is true. My first dog, the male, would not stay at his own home. He was always at my house and when he got hit by a car his owner did not even know it until a week it. It took him d my whole family had went looking for him and all but given up when he came limping across the yard. we were so happy he was alive and so I nursed him back to health and went to tell his owner who gave him to me on the spot. Dumb dog still chases cars when he gets loose. I think he got brain damage when he was hit. He is a Rot/collie mix. My second dog showed up about 2 weeks later on my door step and just would not leave. She followed my dad around ALL day as he went out to mow yards. She is a full blooded Black Lab. Dog #3 came with my daughter when she moved back home to start college. She is a Lab/ Chow mix and the mother of the puppies. Yes, we are most definitely giving the puppies away but it will be difficult. Dogs are awesome as they lay under my feet and follow me every where I go. Funny thing is that I do not even like dogs as they are a lot of work but they just do not be when I try to explain this to them. LOL

i think stray animals must have our addresses then and pass them out to other homeless pets lol.. i always have had the problem of seeing a stray or strays coming to my house and demanding to be adopted and i fall for it most of the time lol

Now that I think about it I think you are right. I can tell you will be a great pet parent since you seem to understand them and which ever dog you choose will be a very happy animal/child in your home.

I can't have dogs anymore, when I was first bought a dog I bought a thoroughbred, then I bought a dog off a friend, after that I decided to buy from the shelters as well so that these animals could have a chance at life.

This is our first dog, and we chose it by breed - Yellow Labrador. My husband did some research on the breed, and said Labrador is smart, tame and easy to be trained. As for me, I think Labrador is good looking. The dog that we are having now was actually given by a friend of my aunt. She has a few Labradors, and she'd like to give away the babies to those who really take care of dogs. I think these kinds of dogs are much healthier than those pet shop's ones, as the dog owner really took care of the dogs.

I've had collies, mixed breeds that looked like benji and they all shed, they were all my boy's but shed, after they passed i wanted one that didn't shed so i went looked on line and found lhasa apso's don't so to the pet store i went.PET SMART had 5 of them 6 weeks old and when i put my hand in the pen the first one that came over and started playing and biting i bought, now 9 years later he's right here next to me laying down content MAX IS by far the best dog i've ever had.I live on the gulf and when the GATORS come around the dock he lets us know,i don't know how he hears them maybe smell but he's always there when their around keeping them off the lawn

My fiance had his pitbull before we had gotten together, but he is a wonderful and well behaved dog. Last year we went looking for another dog. We decided to go to our local humane society. Their we found our dog Dozer. He was only 8 weeks old, and a rottweiler/st. bernard mix. Both of our dogs are well behaved, and are great with our 11 month old. I think that you should look at what kind of dog you can have in your life. We have two large breed dogs, because we have a lot of property. I think that all dogs can be great, and that you just need to find the right one that fits into your life style.

i want a pitbull but my hubby is convinced that it would hurt my cats.. but he was attacked by a sharpei so i think he is just worried period about big dogs and me other than my black lab/boxer.. compared that dog can kick my butt playing with me lol.. if my dog ever got serious my dinky self would be screwed.. but i think as long as they are raised right there wouldnt be any problems

I have ended up with most of my dogs due to rescuing them. There has only been 2 dogs in my life that have been a choice. Right now I have a shepherd/husky croos that we found on the side of the road at midnight one night when he was 6 months old. The second is a heeler and we got him because he was abandoned. Then there are my two choices, two papillons. My aunt bred and showed papillons and I liked these dogs so I got 2 retired show dogs. We have also owned a pitbull, border collie, a peekingese/poodle cross and a couple more dogs.

I like pure breed dogs too. If you go and buy a dog from pet shops you are going to help the puppy farms. I would recommend you to read before deciding which breed would you choose. Then select a reputable breeder whom you like his style of dogs. Maybe your first dog was awful because of bad temperament? I love rough collies but I have decided to go into shelties because of space reasons. © ronaldinu 2008

Most of our dogs were either strays or ones that were fixing to be homeless. Only one was actually paid for and that was just adoption fees. Also most of our dogs have been mixed. I think Rex has been our only pure breed and lord knows he is a pain in the rear. He has bitten my boss when he came for a meeting. Why is it the small ones you have to watch out for at my house and not the big ones?? One of the dogs we had was a stray that ran and jumped into my parents van. Another was a mixed dalmatian that was left at were dad used to work. Then there is the one that was abused that showed up at our house and has never left.

Hi there! Since I was a child, all that I've ever wanted was a hairy dog. I don't know what kind of breed as long as its hairy. Years past and my parents never bought me one. I grew older, got busy and forgot about the dog. Until I saw a shih tzu on Animal Planet and that's how I've decided what breed I wanted. I have 2 shih tzus for 7 years now. I have grown to love not only their physical appearances but also their charming personality. They're such good dogs to me and I don't think there isn't any dog that could replace them for me. Not just because of the breed but I have treated them as my children already. I don't think any man can find a replacement for their lost dogs. Sure the breed can be replaced. You can find a much nicer dog but it's the bond that's been built for many years that cannot be forgotten. Ciao!

Well maybe you should search on the net for some personality on dogs, it also depends on what you are looking for small dog big dog.I have a chihuahua, she is just lovely but with allot of attitude. she follows me everywhere!!! and she is also very jelouse. I happen to get her as a gift. My grandmother got her dog from a friend and when I saw hers I wanted one so she took me to her friends home. China (my dog) was the last puppy there. I think my choosing was faith...

The current breed that I own is the American Pitbull Terrior. I love this breed and think that I will always own at least one American Pitbull Terrior. I love this breed because they are loyal, very intelligant, and they have a huge drive to please their owner. Also I love them because they are hyperactive. This makes me get off my butt and do stuff with them otherwise they will destroy my house (make their own fun.)

I chose a staffordshire bull terrier because I have always had one in my life since I was 3 years old. I grew up with one and he was a great dog, my best mate and companion for 14 years. My brother also has 2 staffies and they are fantastic, so full of character, funny, loving and great with people. I now have my own and she's 2 years old now. I don't think I could have another breed of dog.

I used to have cockapoos all the time....but my last dog was a cocker spaniel...he was awesome. More hearty and very intelligent. If I was going to get another one it would probably be a cocker or a springer spaniel....I had such good luck with him!

My boyfriends sister actually got our dog when he was about 8 weeks old. She worked and at the time I was out of work and we all lived together so I would take care of him during the day. Soon after she was going out of town alot and not home much and I would watch him and I got very attached to him. I would get really upset when I thought about moving and not being near him. So when he was a few months old he officially become my dog. I wouldn't have choosen a better dog. He's a chihuahua and honestly I always said I would never own one, they get a bad rap. But he is a very well behaved, potty trained, quiet and friednly dog who is completely devoted to me.

yeah i bet that a lot of them that do have issues that give them a bad rep are because the owners didnt take enough time to properly train them

I chose based on how it reacted to my being in the animal shelter I passed by each animal cage one by one and I was 11 yrs old at the time each dog I passed kept barging the fences and growling but as I was nearing the end of the line about 4 cages up from the end I found my match a black and white around the eyes white on the tip of the tail and black body if my memory serves correctly i think this is a german shepherd / husky mix she did not bark, whine, or fight viciously we called her brandy and had her for about 14 years

yeah i see how they are when i go up to them.. i know when i picked out my dog there was 11 of them in the litter and they were EVERYWHERE and i didnt want a hyper dog so i took home the one that was all calm and came and cuddled to me.. turns out she has like adhd from hell and omg gave me fits for a while.. but i love her.. i wonder if the other dogs are worse than her though lol

We use to get whatever dog we were drawn to until we owned our first boxer, and he was the BEST dog we ever had smart, listened well, big, cuddly, and then he got cancer and passed away and I was so upset and a few weeks later my husband came home with a four week old boxer and it is unbelievable how much he acts and resembles my old boxer. I think the breeds have similiar personalities but mixed breeds are just as good I think it can both ways according to breed as well as the dog you get.
