I used to have terrible insomnia. On the nights I could manage to get to sleep, I'd wake up for no apparent reason, and be stuck awake for another hour at the very least. To combat it, my doctor suggested exercising daily, and reading, instead of watching t.v. for at least an hour before sleep. Also, he suggested that I don't consume any food or beverages at least 2 hours before bed. These have all worked pretty well, though there are some occasional nights where my sleep is still interrupted. Hope this helps you!

I have a son that will be three months old in a couple of days. I dont even remember what it is like to sleep throught the night. It has been at least a year since i was able to sleep through the night because i couldnt sleep during pregnancy either. I used to be able to sleep through the night at one time though. Hopefully i will be able to get back to that soon.

When I sleep together with my kids, I always wake up once in a while to check on them if they need anything. But there are also time when the kids sleep in the other room with their grandma, during those times, the only reason I would wake up is if I need to go to the toilet, if not, I just sleep through the night. I don't really mind having to go to the toilet since when I go back to bed, I fall right back to sleep.

What do you think is keeping you awake? I know I can't sleep properly if I am very stressed out, like last night. I didn't go to sleep until 3am. Hubby wants me to work full time but I'm worried about my son and who's going to take care of him afterschool. He says by putting him in an afterschool program or hiring a babysitter should be fine and dandy, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for someone else to take care of him just yet - he's only 6. The time we have together afterschool is precious and I really don't want to lose that, just yet.
Anyway sorry to go off wandering a bit but because I didn't sleep well last night, I am going to take a hot bath when hubby gets home, and go to bed early. Usually taking that hot bath makes me a little sleepy.
Hope you're able to get some sleep!

I know how you feel maddysmommy. leaving my children was i think the hardest thing I have ever did. I know what it feels like to want to be there but can't. But I have to work in order to take care of them. so it's hard. however i am not under any kind of stress. this is something i have been struggling with for a while. it just seems that lately it's starting to take a toll on me. I get up in the morning and i am just so tired.

Exercise. Once you do, you will be so tired in the evening, you will usually sleep all the way thru the night when you do.
You can go running or swimming, it doesn't matter. As long as you get a good workout, that is what matters.
Sometime mopping the floor also helps. Use a cloth and a pail and go on all fours to do that. Works up quite a sweat. That night you will be so tired, you will fall a sleep all the way to the morning!

hello
I sleep soundly at night. except when my son would ask for a milk. But it is seldom now, since he is already 4 years old. At around 4 or 5am he would ask me for a milk.
That's fine, I will just wake up and prepare to work.
take care

Well, usually I do sleep well throughout the whole night, unless I have work pressure that makes me keep thinking of my work. I've read that sometimes when people can't sleep, it's because of stress. It can be stress about work, relationship, family or life. If you can deal with your problem, then you may be able to sleep well. Try to find out the source, then only you can dig into it and find the solution. ^_^

i am so not under any stress. i mean of course we all have our moments, but i don't allow things that come up in life take over my life. i don't subscribe to stressful living or thinking so i know it's not that. someone told me to start working out at night and that will help. so i am going to try that. thanks kaka

I have mild sleep apnea, and 2 kids with sleeping issues. We have a wonderful routine that does nothing!
My 4 year old is lightly medicated for aggression, and has a lot of allergies. His night time meds help him sleep great! Without the meds, he tosses and turns all night.
My 8 year old takes melatonin and singulair for allergies. Without the melatonin she can't fall asleep or stay asleep.
I use a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine, and take anti-depressants. I sleep so much better now, and I'm more patient and avtive during the day. Before I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, I was always so tired and cranky and would nap ALL day and still be tired!
I personally do not have a problem with mild medications if they drastically improve the family's quality of life. If my son doesn't take his meds, he's pissy all day and that really changes what we're able to do and how we interact with each other. If my daughter doesn't take her melatonin, she doesn't sleep and is beyond cranky. I usually make her go back to sleep for a while.
For you; Leave a very dim nightlight in the bathroom, so when you get up you go potty and go straight back to bed. Don't think about how annoying it is to wake up, just think how good it feels to be back in bed. I'd also try a mild sleeping medication; melatonin being my favorite. No TV, computer, or phone for a few hours before bed. Read a book. Cool down your room. Get some new pillows. And if all else fails, see your Dr!

Hi,Im a light sleeper. A slight move by my husband will wake me up right away and will have trouble sleeping back...I felt like I needed to do something believe me,because I felt like a zombie in the mornings. Some of the things I did that were quite effective are the following:
1.Avoid drinking water,2-3 hrs before I sleep
2.Spray=Sleep Easy Linen spray by Spa Essentials
3.Take one of these teas after dinner, around 5 hrs before sleeping-
from Healthy Options stores=
Traditionals/Medicinals brand
1. Organic Chamomile-herbal calmative and digestive
2. Organic Easy Now
3. Organic Nighty Nights
4. Organich Chamomile with Lavender
5. St. John's Good Mood
for the kids they have:
1. Organic Nighty Night too
2. Organic Cold Care
3. Organic tummy Comfort
4. organic throat care
Ever since I had these...I was able to sleep through the night and could not hear my neighbor's deafening car alarm whenever her dogs hit her car.
I hope I can be of help for you to have a good night sleep.

I think the best way to get a good night sleep is to just create a routine, whether its a calming bath before bed, or reading a book. It sounds cliche, but if you get your body into the habit, it'll respond eventually. Also, I've read that waking up to go potty during the night is a sign of not breathing enough while sleeping -- it happens to me, and I'm fairly overweight but not tremendously -- so it can happen to anyone I suppose. Another way might be to tire yourself out more during the day, or buy a better mattress.

For some time, I did have good sleep. I got up every two hours or so during the night. Milk before sleep helped me getting better. It has very good calming effect, and the effect is said to maintain throughout the night. Nowadays, I go to bed around eleven, and good sleep helps to refresh me the next morning. To avoid getting up during the night, you can take milk one or two hours before sleep.

I work seven days a week and my hours for work fluctuates alot. I sleep about 3-4 hours at a time and then work again. This goes on daily. I work a while until I get tired and then go lay down and get back up and do it again. A good night of sleep may consist of a nice warm bath before going to bed if you have the time though.

hi dear friend, i am having a baby and she is very naughty. her sleeping pattern is............ what to say. she dont sleeps in the night. she plays and is very energetic in the night time. in the morning and day time also she sleeps just for two hours. her sound sleep starts from morning. then she sleeps till noon. but at that time i cant sleep. so i dont get any sleep. my total sleep in twenty four hours in maximum three and a half hours. and every week i fall ill. i am having fever in a gap of every three days regularly. what to do. i am having all the dily chores with baby also. i ahve no advice, i think you should workout in the evening, eat light, take a warm water bath or a shower and just before sleeping soak your feet in warm water and apply some aroma oil, and drink a glass of hot milk. it works and i think it will work for you too.

Usually I do Momma. I didn't used to, but these days I sleep very well. I used to stay up far to late and it was making me grumpy. I had a regime instigated by a friend on here that sees me trotting off to bed at 10.30. Almost every night she sends me an E mail telling me to go to bed and I GO! It sounds odd I know. But I find it very effective.

Hi momma! Boy, I wish I had that answer for you! I'm going to
wait and see if anyone has that answer so I can get a good
night's sleep but I rather doubt anyone can help me! I have
a very serious insomnia problem. The doctors can't even help
me. One suggested that I go check into a sleep clinic. I told
him that I would be there for a very long time since I can't
fall asleep and I don't want to be gone so long. I can't sleep
in my own bed so how am I supposed to sleep in a strange place
being watch and hooked up to all kinds of machines and monitors.
I told him I really didn't think that would work at all! So
no one has come up with the proper treatment yet. I am seeing
a new psychiatrist who is trying to figure out another way to
help me. So far no doctor has come up with anything that has
worked. They will not give me sleeping pills and I will not
take them. I know that that is only a temporary fix and that
also is an addicting method so I can't count on that as an
answer.
